I'm really glad this was made. there are so many great composers that will never get their rise to fame, but are remembered fondly for introducing us to so many memorable melodies. I can bet that there are more people who know the Mario theme than there are people who know Beethoven 5th

for some reason this is like the beginning of electronic music as we all know it as in having a Nes with a 2A03 chip in your very own home or having an arcade with a sound chip in itself in many ways this is the beginning of electronic music for all of us
the first time I watched this I was really just fascinated and ever since then after learning more about synth and keyboards and samplers and electronic music in general I'm starting to understand more it really is its own culture and language in an of itself
I loved this. Who knew Red Bull would turn out to be such a big supporter of music. My only criticism - where's Koji Kondo (Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Star Fox)? Even if you weren't able to get him for an interview, he's pretty important.

Technically, Japan's biggest musical export to the world are electronic musical instruments, e.g. Roland drum machines like the TR-808 and TR-909, synthesizers like the Yamaha DX7 and Roland TB-303, turntables like the Panasonic Technics, etc. But in terms of actual musical compositions, I think it's safe to say that video game music are indeed Japan's biggest musical export.

Spanish subtitles require time correction from "Mi nombre es Hirokazu Tanaka. " onwards, this line is starting in 10:34 but should start on 10:24 instead, my guess is the times of the following lines should be the same in the Spanish transcription as in the English one.
Its a great series but I just watched all of it, and no mention of Megaman?! How can you talk about important game music without Megaman? Also this entire series ignores the fantastic Commodore 64 music scene. It was making insane tracks like Supremacy, Commando, Turrican series (Chris Huelsbeck) before anything blew someones mind on the NES .
Did you ever happen to find out? I know the intro has a different version for each episode, but they're all really good and I'd very much like a name or atleast artist.
I asked it to my game-nerd friend, who is very familiar with early NES era music, but even he does not know it. He guessed it that Nintendo did not allow to use their (and Tanaka's) music in this film, so Tanaka (he's already left Nintendo) made another music for this which sounds like early NES music.
