The Rise & Tragic Fall of Volcano: The Blast Coaster Kings Dominion 

This was the BEST coaster at KD!!

I grew up in northern Virginia so Kings Dominion was my "home park." Volcano was an awesome ride, it's sad I'll never get to ride it again.

I rode Volcano on two occasions in 2017 and really liked it. But it was SBNO in 2018 when I went there

This was my son's 1st roller coaster ride with me. It was my absolute favorite ride! I am soooo sad it's gone. I haven't been back to King's Dominion since.

Rode through Land of Dooz as a kid and loved Outer Limits its first year of operation (such neat theming when it opened and riding the first of its kind design). But, ohh, Volcano: The Blast Coaster! Got to ride it during its testing phase in August 1998, went on it a few times over the years, and was able to ride it at the beginning of its final season - not that we knew that then. The double LIM launches - the last through the TOP OF A VOLCANO SPITTING FIRE! - the unique ride experience, the great theming, all came together for an unbeatable and never-repeated coaster. It still hurts my heart that it was unceremoniously closed. Been on many coasters, but this one will always be at the top of my list. #RIPVolcano

I saw this coaster in late July of 1998, but it was not opened yet. I might have remembered that there were construction walls up around the are in summer of 1997. The next time I went to Kings Dominion was in 2016 and Volcano was closed that day. Then I rode it twice in 2017

Kings Dominion was my home park. Volcano was awesome. We would always head straight there after rope drop. Sad to see it go. Meanwhile… Anaconda is still going strong…

I forgot about the safari monorail. As a teenager, it was a great place to get close to whatever girl I brought to the park. The old cable cars were great for that too, and Avalanche was a great excuse for her to sit in my lap.

Got to wait in the mist until 12am to ride Volcano the day before opening. Moss that job sometimes.

Originally the park had planned to retheme haunted river to the movie Congo but when the film bomed at the box office the plans were changed. Honestly you weren't missing much because the ride duration wS rather short. I'm just hoping that the park installs a suitable replacement and does so really soon.

Journey to Atlantis sea world Orlando and San Diego

During the journey to Atlantis section, you actually were showing pictures of diamond Falls still at Kings Dominion, but a different ride

Ohh another thing...volcano wasn't themed around the 1997 disaster movie of the same name as that movie was actually produced by 20th century fox.

If i had a quarter for every "it shut down for good" you have said, i would have four quarters, which is oddly weird becuase ive only watched the first 30 seconds of it.

Bro trust me take this video down and re do it. You made tons of mistakes. And jumped all around in a weird way. I love your drive but you can do this wayy better. First off the ride doesn't go into a helix after the first launch. It made a 180 degree banked turn into the volcano. 2nd it didn't go 155mph. I wish it did lol it went 70mph. Up 155ft out the volcano that had a fire effect blowing huge smoke rings looking like a erupting volcano. And you repeat yourself 3 times between 10:16-10:36 it had problems at first but operated for 20years. It did have a issue with the launch system but you jump from 2006-2018 pretty quick. The issue that led to closing was structural issues with hardware and the mountian that was going on 50years old. Kings dominion planned on restoring volcano. They ordered new nuts bolts and hardware for the entire coaster from intiman. They spent several million dollars. And all the stuff ordered was wrong from intiman because this was a prototype coaster. After this kings dominion was done. They were done putting money Into the ride and cedar fair made the decision to demolish the 20yr old ride. With the structural integrity in question and things needing to be replaced found by maintenance inspections they were unable to offer last rides because they never planned on closing it. That's why soo many people were upset. Imagine having several million dollars of parts that don't fit.
