What happens when you get a bike in for the normal reviewing session, but due to the odd situation, we find ourselves in 2020 that review turns out to be something entirely different from what you expected?

After watching this it reset my cycling and as a 54 year old made me question what I want from cycling, always hankered for a Ritchey but was looking for a more ‘slack’ riding position. I bought the Outback and thankyou because everything you said in this film im feeling and it makes me smile every time I ride it!

I lost my job due to the virus. So, I decided to take some time off and just ride. I have never raced, I just go at my own pace breathing and enjoying the surroundings. I have never been able to enjoy riding my bike as much as I do now. I have a gravel titanium bike with 40s on it. It's heavy but every time I see it I just fall in love all over again with it.

Everything you said - is exactly why I adore LSD rides (emphasis on the Slow) on my 27 year old Serotta Colorado Legend Ti. With skinny round tubes but modern components and 26c tires, every mile is a therapy session; a nostalgic reminder of why I ventured down this path in the first place.

I've been looking into getting a trail bike for weeks some months ago, almost pulled the trigger on one only to find out it had just sold out like so many bikes this year. While I was checking out other bikes, contemplating, comparing, evaluating, even considering to get an e-trail bike this thought in the back of mind kept coming back...get a gravel bike, lighter, more versatile, like a road bike but so much more. Then I saw the new Cube Nuroad Race 2021 model at my bike store, only a few of them that just as quickly sold out - when that happened I was already riding mine and loving every minute of it. There are not many things that are good, I mean really good in life but a great bike ride, those rides that you really enjoy, soaking it all in, looking around, breathing deeply and happily, those moments are about as close as you can get to bliss in this here quagmire that we call life. Great video Shoddy.

Wow, your video & words rang so true for me. This past May I gave my brother my old road bike and bought a Ritchey Road Logic (rim), it has been such a big lift of my spirit. The feel of the bike is so comfortable and familiar, yet still can fly. Seems everyone cycling has had their hearts warmed from riding during this time. Great "review"!

Totally agree with the sentiment in this video Shoddy. I bought an alu Canyon Grail last Christmas to start exploring some back roads here in Tuscany. To have a bike I can treat rough and not be too concerned about with paint scratches and bruising, and ended up falling in love with slower riding & exploring. After all my planned events were cancelled this year, I ended up doing lots of gravel riding & bikepacking and just general exploring. Enjoying a slower riding lifestyle. So much so, that the gravel bike has become my go-to and that my baby, my BMC timemachine road bike, has been relegated to "back up"! We have the slow food movement, and now i'm embracing the slow ride movement! 😁

Perfect review, I own a Fairlight Strael with Di2 for exactly the same reasons. No power meter, no cadence sensor, just get on it and ride. External rear cable hose routing just made it easier to build. Everyone should build a bike like this for the exact same reasons. Thank You, love it.

Thanks for the great review Shoddy! I've always been a massive fan of Ritchey road bikes and recently my dream came true and I managed to pick up a second hand 2016 Ritchey Swiss Cross in stealth bomber black. I also wanted to get into gravel riding so my idea of "one bike does all" was the plan. My previous bike was a lovely ti Sabbath which I thought rode pretty well - until that is I first rode the Swiss...OMG. All I can say is I know EXACTLY what you mean and what all the hype is about with these bikes and their beautiful steel frames. Just so responsive, smooth and so damned cool! Then I rode it off road last weekend - wow. Tom Richey is a genius is all I can say... I'm looking forward to many more miles in the saddle and this Swiss will never be up for sale. Bike for life.

Well said sir. The older I get, the faster I was. When I'm on the Ritchey I often find myself singing a Steve Earle song The Other Kind. Written for motorcycle I know, but I still find it fitting. Yeah, but nowadays I got me two good wheels And I seek refuge in aluminum and steel Aw, it takes me out there for just a little while And the years fall away With every mile I'm back out on that road again Turn this beast into the wind There are those that break and bend I'm the other kind

During lockdown I got out my 20+ year old steel frame rim brake bike I hadn't ridden for many years and rebuilt it with parts ordered online. I made it a 1X7 speed for simplicity and have really enjoyed riding it since but I always thought I would get a newer bike at some stage but now after seeing many videos like your explaining how pleasant steel framed bikes are to ride I am starting to realise I might be disappointed with new bikes. The only downside is mine is 11.6kg.

Ok. Live in Co Donegal,West Coast of Ireland. Thank goodness this years insanity and lockdown madness has been balanced a little with my renewed interest in just riding my bike! Built my gravel bike last year and for much of this year been going out most days for an hour or two, just riding my gravel bike on mountain backroads and forestry. I emphasize ‘just riding’ . Then as an unintended bonus when the club was able to get out on group rides found myself going really well! Did a 140km ,very hilly ride after nothing more than two hours of steady riding for months....was flying! Bonus! So you bring up a very important issue, often overlooked in the world of carbon, performance related ( often driven by the industry) cycling content.....

I bought the rim brake version of the road logic this year. It's like riding on a magic carpet compared to my old 2006 Fuji Roubaix aluminum/carbon frame. Before that I was riding an 1988 Dave Scott Centurion. I knew I wanted to go back to steel, and the Ritchey has been an absolute pleasure. I rode the most comfortable and fun 40 miles of my life on it three weeks ago. The steering sticks out the most after the comfort, it's both stable and responsive. I love it.

I just got a Ritchey Road Logic in the Sally's Macaroon color. Put Campy Record 11sp mechanical on it. I LOVE it. Was riding a Pinarello carbon before this and I find the Ritchey is so much more satisfying. Between the Vittoria Corsa 25 tires and the frame it really smooths out the road yet feels fast, corners well and it very stable. Love it!!!! Will be getting a Ritchey Outback in the near future!

Had a laugh hearing your take on this.. Completely different to my experience as a broke-ass, non carbon bike owning individual. I picked up the rim brake version this summer to replace a very suddenly deceased frame... and... I think it kinda rips. It's the bike that taught me I could speed up and say f--- the roses, leave my comfort zone, and fly among the dentists. Besides, by the time I can afford anything lighter I'll have deposited so many watts in the bank of quad that I'll be able to cruise uphill with the earth-shattering might of a man carrying no water bottle... with two water bottles!

I got a rim brake Ultegra Road Logic at the beginning of the year and it is the best all-arounder I've ridden. OK with 23c-25c tires but much prefers 28c-32c. For about 70/30 road/gravel, this can be the one bike to do it all. I've also ridden Swiss Cross. It's got that same Ritchey ride but designed for bigger tires, more compliance, more offroad. It can do 30c but seems best with about 35c. Last, definitely recommend trying with an 11-32/34. I managed to use all cogs, almost equally.

Cheers. I'd kill to do the 312, and especially so on a steel bike. Maybe an aim for 2024. As for the paint job, get it glossy, these bikes look superb with a high gloss finish. The new rim version has a stunning paint scheme. Thanks - Dave

Cool bike. We often forget that the real reason to ride is because it’s just fun. The best rides are when you turn off Strava, drop the streamlined bike kit clothing and just grab your cargo shorts and a t-shirt and just take off without a care in the world.

Like. Ah! Dave. When you go for a ramble on your own leave the head units at home. Feel the legs, listen to the lungs and take in all the fresh air you can. Bliss. Don't forget to go home though.

Every time I hop on my TCR I feel like I need to be chasing KOMs and maxing efforts. It honestly takes a lot of the fun out of it to be putting that pressure on yourself. I love taking my gravel bike out for this reason, it’s just a better time, more of the time.

Like the bike, but it's not a cheap bike by any means, especially with those zipp 303s wheelset and sram etap groupset... It is possible to enjoy ride even with some more affordable components... I think there are many steel bikes out there more affordable and far better looking also...

Everything said here is true! I picked up my Logic Disc a few months ago - never had such big smiles on a bike - a damn joy to ride every single time. You can see my local shop put together my build here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UzLSHi2Yoa4.html
