The River Cam - Eric Whitacre Leonard Elschenbroich, Cellist Eric Whitacre, Conductor Royal Philharmonic Orchestra The Proms 2015 Royal Albert Hall, London August 14, 2015
Isn't it wonderful that atonal music died on a dead end road. Thank you, Mr. Whitacre for carrying on the great British tradition. Your music is beautiful. Vaughn-Williams would be proud.
+frenchcathedrals Eric said it has a Vaughan Williamsish lushness probably because that's what the music wanted to be since Vaughan Williams was also at Cambridge and probably walked along that river. Madeleine L'Engle once said, the art is often wiser than the artist.
I heard this piece on Classical MPR while working from home. It was so overwhelmingly beautiful that I had to find it again. It is so peaceful. Reminds me of floating on a river when I was young.
His emotional connection to this piece truly tells a story all by itself-the way he looks up toward the ceiling, as if touched by the "light". Each precise stroke of his cello holds the secrets to everlasting happiness prosperity-and the rich vibrato welcomes us to Paradise with open arms. It saddens me that much of this world is oblivious to absolutely amazing music like this. Sometimes I just come here to watch him play, rather than listen.
Chill dude he's just playing notes lmao. There's no such thing as everlasting happiness and prosperity. It is beautiful music, but it's not that deep lol
This beautiful song is in my iPod playlist made up of about 60 of my favorites from thousands in my phone. Swear to god whenever it comes up, I end up listening to it for days straight on repeat. The version I play is from EW’s Water Night EP and features Julian Lloyd Webber, that version is of course played at the perfect tempo, and is obviously captivating. I’m at day six of listening to solely it at the moment. 😅 The last 1:48 of the studio recording is, entrancing.
An absolute gem of modern composition....or is sublime a better descriptive word... Simply beautiful.... i can hear shades of the greats hear... Elgar and Vaughan Williams... But for me this just confirms the heights to which Whiacre aspires... Love this immensely...
Can anybody please explain to me why Kayne West has 360 million views today, and this pure work of beauty only 22 K? Can someone please reassure me that this is a mistake...
Derk is merely comparing the two worlds. One uplifts the spirit to higher things - the other......? Pop culture has never been particularly profound or deep, that is just fact.
@@joshscores3360 kanye west is one of hiphop's greatest influences and artist, you cannot compare these 2 together; both are amazing in their respective ways
I am truly lost for words. I don't even know what musical terminology to use to describe the beautiful music I have just finish hearing. Its as if I understand something but what..........
+Brothersall please buy the CD "Water Night" on which this piece is released. Embedded in the CD are videos of Eric explaining the development of each piece. You''ll understand much better. Eric used to walk his son to school along the river Cam while they lived in Cambridge.
If only audience members had the physical ability to not drop things and cough throughout the entirety of the performance. If the performers can avoid making unwanted sounds, so can the audience. Great music and performance, however. Elschenbroich really knows how to make that cello cry.
At 5:47 you can hear someone’s iPhone alarm go off in the audience just before the silence. :( If you go to 5:45 you’ll be able to better prepare for that. :( I can hear it on headphones. Never noticed it without before.
