The RoadOne Aethon MT - Is It A Steaming Pile Or A Deal

This week I'm reviewing the RoadOne Aethon MT and ask, is it a steaming pile or a deal? The RoadOne Aethon is made in Thailand, and is a bottom barrel tire, but has a look and a price that make it worth looking at. Let me know in the comments if you think it's a steaming pile or the real deal.

Failed to mention these are made in a pirelli factory on pirelli equipment, that’s a solid backing for these tires in my opinion

I've had the Roadone Calvalry 265 75 16 which is almost identical on my lifted 2005 Jeep liberty for just over 2 years now. I live in Denver Colorado and have used them in the mountains on harsh roads, heavy snow, mud and sand, and a lot of highway driving. We get cold winters and hot dry summers and these tires have held up very well. The noise is lower than any m/t I've ever owned and at approximately 17000 miles i have well over half tread remaining. I spent $598 for the set of 4 and another $100 for install and lifetime rotation, balance and flat repair. I would give these a 10 out of 10 rating. If the Aethon are equal to the Cslvalry i will be ordering them for my lifted 02 Silverado 1500 LS. I would recommend these tires to anyone.

I dunno. My friend is a distributor for these and talked me into try a set for my 2012 GMC Sierra Z-71 about 2.5 years ago. Mine were the Roadone Calvary M/T in a 305/70/17. Honestly, I didn’t have a lot of confidence in such an inexpensive tire but he promised me my money back so I tried them. The bottom line is they’ve been pretty awesome! Very little road noise. Great traction in mud too. They ride just fine. They seem to be wearing evenly too. I drove this truck with these tires on several 200-300 mile trips with no problems.

I have been running them for about 3 years (on my second set) and after running bfg's and nittos my whole life ( I'm 47 been offroading since I was 16) I am truly extatic about these Chinese tires. I will admit that they don't last quite as long as a set of nittos but I can buy two full sets of five ( I run a full spare on the back) for what I pay for four nittos. Now I get that there is no road warranty which is why I buy 5 tires so my warranty is a full spare on deck at all times which is a way better scenario to me. These tires are also known as crosswind MTs and I highly recommend if your over paying for over priced bfg's.

sooooo, the reason for hating on it is because it isn't an overly complicated, over priced, and hyped up doughnut sold by the big name brand sponsors? sometimes you don't want the fancy features.... sometimes you just want a good tire that is going to do the job without paying an arm and leg.... and a tip, most of the fancy features from the big name brands are selling points and do not work for anything other than driving up price... simple is always better.... and it's a mud tire, it's not supposed to be super silent... if you want silent then stick to street rubber...

Rides and sounds like a regular radial but grips like it should... 3 of the ones i got didn't even need any weights to balance them, 2 only needed a little... And being directional, they don't need to be spun to clean them... They may not be as good as the Denman Ground Hawgs they replaced, but I'm fairly happy with them... I got the LT235/75/R15....

That’s what I’m running currently. I live in 14 acres in Virginia, when the recent snow storm hit with 7+ inches of snow, they performed better than I expected getting around the property. Only downside is that our quarter mile gravel driveway loves to stick rocks between the grooves. There’s always one or two I hear hit the fenders as soon as I get on the highway.

I had a set on my f350 6.0l. I pulled a locked up 40’s coupe up a muddy hill with no issue. The work great in sand and rock as well. They are fairly quiet. Low hum. But it is a very good tire at the price point. The longevity is about what you would expect for a mid price range mt. We didn’t have much snow when I had them, but they did pretty good in about 4” to 6” from experience.

We have these on a 2015 ram 2500, it moves this big diesel truck through huge deep mud without any problems. Even the thicker stuff to the thinner stuff. Never had a problem. There is a decent bit of road noise, but nothin that’s to annoying, def worth it if you have a hunting/work truck. They last a decent bit and even when low on tread they have no problem with mud.

These are OEM tires, based on Linglong Crosswind MT. You can find more information on Linglong brand. They are pretty well made & good performance for the price. We use them a lot in Thailand especially in Rubber Tree farm, where the rubber latex is harvested to make these tires. Only downside is these are directional tires, good looking, good in mud, but can't rotate so they don't last very long and can be very noisy when they wore out unevenly.

I run 285/70r/17s on my 04 Tahoe. They are amazing! Only thing, as with most M/Ts when they're brand new, you get no road noise until you get a few miles on them and possibly a little viberation(nothing bad). But if you get them rotated like your suppose too, then they quieten down and the viberation stops again. until time to get the rotated again. As for Highway, I drive 24 miles to work and 24 miles home, so about 50 miles a day just for work. So in a month I'm putting about 1000 miles on them and I have to get a new set just a little over every year. Somewhere around every 1yr and 3-5months. But what can you expect running on a highway all the time. They run great in the mud and snow/ice and offroad. I've yet to get stuck with them and they've helped me pull alot of stuff out of the mud as well. I definitely recommend these tires for low budget tires. My question is, what is the difference between the Aethon M/Ts and the Cavalry M/Ts? LIke looks wise? Cause I'm searching for a couple of new Roadone Aethon 285/70r/17s but I can't seem to find them online anywhere. Only ones I'm coming up with are the Cavalry ones. and they look identical too me

I also had a less than half tread set of calvary mt on my f150 that I bought from a friend. They were noticeably louder than the aethon’s maybe the size had something to do with it (33x12.50r20). But the same tread pattern. Those tires were the best cheap mt’s that Ive ever run. I went down logging trails that a toyota pickup or jeep would get stuck on. In 2wd because thats all she was. The only thing to ever stop that truck was digging it down to the frame. If it had a bottom that truck would go through it. Im having similar performance out of the aethon’s now on my OBS.

Looks like it may be good for a light farm wagon, like a hay kicker wagon or smaller gravity box. Looks like it could help with sliding around in the mud on a side slope. We used to be able to get LUGRs a heavy tread skinnier tire that worked great on side slopes but cannot find them now for many years. Bought a 2011 tundra from the dealer used with 80k miles and it came with these in a 33/12.5/17 basically new. They only had 35lbs of pressure when we picked the truck up. I aired them up to around 55-60lbs which they say 65lbs max so maybe my fault but 2 of the 4 bubbled and became impossible to use. I haven’t really seen that in the past but I wouldn’t recommend running high pressure in them 45lbs is probably the sweet spot and this was only used on asphalt.

Name brand companies also sell dealership tires. There is no worse tire than the wrangler sra. Maybe the thornbird is worse. Toss up. Both good for a tire swing. And alot of big companies are made in china now anyway. If you get longevity for cheap than who cares. I've been through a lot of brands and notice no difference between a sweat shop tire and a full price american made tire. Either or can last along time. Just read the reviews.
