I work on a lot of R22 and 44s. They’re quite easy to work on other than that damned fan scroll🤬 those 7/32 nuts and the hex bolts on the right hand side are the bane of my existence.
In my opinion, the R22 is the ideal trainer because the maximum pilot, passenger, and luggage payload of 389 pounds, with full standard fuel tank, makes it unsuitable for any serious long-distance transportation for two people. As the pilot and passenger weight increases, the only option is to reduce the fuel in the tank. The R22 has a maximum seat load of 240 pounds, so portly pilots like me can't fly it. This is the reason I did all of my PPL fixed wing training in the Cessna C172 instead of the C150 or C152. :-(
Weight is certainly a factor in these things ;) I defiantly think these have a place as a trainer (hard to argue when there are a lot them out there used for just that lol). It's place to me though is for someone trying to get a pilots license as cheap as possible (which certainly happens a lot) because this is always going to have the lowest cost per flight hour. However if safety is more important than cost, I think there are better trainers out there.
I agree, good personal helicopter, but not a good trainer. Also since it is easy to fly, it doesn't prepare you for helicopters that don't have a governor.
@@RelativeMotionCC at an altitude below which even the slightest up movement of the collective will not droop the rotor RPM. Above about 7000 feet the throttle will be wide open regardless.
@@jointstrike2 So why does Robinson's website for the R22 and their P.O.H. list a max alt. of 14,000? robinsonheli.com/r22-series/ robinsonheli.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/r22-poh-2.pdf
There is sure nothing cheap about helicopters lol but maybe check out these other videos I did if your looking for a cheaper helicopter one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KEqZMG5U8Vs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0hmBcIS3GOU.html
It's not a good trainer. You also need 10 extra hours to fly it by a special FAA regulation. Unless You learned on one. It is also prone to mast bumping.
