wood-oven.net A wood oven powered with rocket technology is a highly efficient cooking appliance that utilizes a combustion chamber made from insulating materials to burn wood and produce high temperatures for cooking. The chimney creates a draft that pulls air through the combustion chamber, increasing the combustion efficiency and producing a hotter fire. The cooking space is made from materials that can withstand high temperatures and can be used for baking, roasting, or grilling. This type of wood oven is eco-friendly, versatile, and ideal for outdoor cooking, camping, or off-grid living.
In this video, we see the construction of a rocket oven designed for outdoor use, built during an appropriate technology course in 2017. The oven is equipped with a unique roof design that could be adapted for indoor use. The construction process involved a lot of welding and the use of raw steel for the oven racks, which can withstand temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The video also includes tips on seasoning the racks and recommendations on storing the oven in inclement weather. Additionally, we learn about the design considerations for the j-tube and wood feed, with suggestions on how to adapt the oven for permanent installation. This video provides a comprehensive guide to building and using a rocket oven for outdoor cooking, perfect for those who love making pizza and other dishes at high temperatures.

I love that this could be used indoors. I probably wouldn't have thought about making sure the racks could withstand the heat until i learned the hard way. This movie seems like it would help me avoid learning things the hard way - a lot.

Now, if it could be used indoors in a conventionally built home....because I don't have a lovely cabin in the woods - yet.

@@paulwheaton I guess that depends on local building codes and insurance. Otherwise, I would love to ditch my metal monster.

That is interesting info...Note to self - galvinization will not make steel last longer in high heat use situations. Is galvanization good for other situations, I wonder, since I hear about galvinized steel all the time?

I choose to avoid galvanized stuff.

If you recess the wood feed into the deck, do you think it would be necessary to have protective material around the feed? I'm thinking wood decking right up to the feed might be a no-no, but I could be wrong.

I would go with brick or rock.

Having it on a deck is a great idea, especially for the vertically challenged like myself. In my mind, the rocket oven would be on the very edge of the deck and the J would be backwards, to facilitate feeding the stove without the deck being in the way. Is that what is being suggested? Then the feed would not be touching the deck, but the straight part of the J tube would be. That might need protective material around it?

I wonder what pizza cooked at 900 degrees tastes like! What a wonderful contraption!

I built a batch box rocket oven in my bus conversion (motorhome) which also had a hob for cooking on and used to heat the bus in winter for 2 years that I was living in it and it worked great here in Scotland, the oven was still capable of reaching temperatures of around 750f but usually ran at around 400-550f, this was dependent on the amount of fuel placed in the batch box but was generally run at lower temperatures as the bus got too hot otherwise. You can see the first annual service I do on it on my channel.

Very interesting about the inside of the oven. I do like a nicely oiled rack.

Why doesn't the J-tube have the wood filling hole in the horizontal end of the tube for easier access & easier ash removal?
@paulwheaton
@paulwheaton 9 месяцев назад
You are describing an L-Tube. With the j-tube, the wood "auto-feeds" and the there is more mixing of the gasses.

I have a friend who cuts and sells tombstones. That, my friends, is a great place to ask for off-cuts to be used as pizza stones. Ask if I can get one too. My friend is a poopyhead.
