My brother offered me this TR-505 for my 18 years old birthday and it changed my life cause I was able for the first time to do some arrangements for my songs. In France we call that a "madeleine de Proust" it means something that remember young times. ;) Thanks for that mister i like alot your channel !

ah Marcel Proust and his Madeleine.. I wrote a screenplay where there was a tribute to the moment of the tea and the madeleines. But I've never know it's commonly used in France to say that something "rings you a bell".

I sorta took over my dads 505 many years ago. This past year I modified it to have 12 separate outputs, using multiplexing to interpret the pan signal sent for Toms and Cymbals to route the signal to different jacks. Also made a wooden sided stand for it. Currently sits in my synth rig for my synthwave style tracks.

I bought it in the 80s and sampled each sounds into Groove Agent, now I can pitch/reverse/process everything indepedently, it sounds really nice.

Actually the individual rhythm, that you found out was stored there by the previous owner was not that bad. On the other hand I'm kind of fed up with such standard rhythms as the bossa nova or the samba. But ok, the 505 was obviously made to comply with general taste. But the sounds of the instruments are great and with this you will be able to authentically recreate 80s music and sound. Looking forward to seeing and hearing it :-D

Got mine in '86 as a junior in college and still have it today (along with my Oberheim Matrix 6 and Roland MKS-100). All still work 34 years later!

Brings back memories, my first drum machine, my dad brought back on a business trip to Singapore in '87, kept it at least 20 years ... sample based. Main limitation for me was lack of individual outputs but sounded decent.

Love the 505. It was the first drum machine I used in 1986 and loved the solid kick and snare. It's probably most famous for being used out of the box on Erasure's "Sometimes" from its release year, doubled up with an 808. Amazing what good effects and processing can do to a basic drum machine sound.

I used to own one of these in the early 90s. I sold it in the early 00s and immediately regretted it. I bought one off eBay last year to try to reclaim a tool of my youth. The 505 I bought last year was circuit bent, so I’m able to pull some glitchy goodness out of it. In some of my most recent tracks, I had used samples from the 505 mixed with the Arturia Drumbrute Impact and had great sounds. Such an underrated machine.

I just bought myself a Roland TR-505 for Christmas, mine works apart from having a bruised display but I'm not going to complain as at least I got it for a fairly reasonable price and all the pads work. With this drum machine I can give all my 80s and early 90s Yamaha and Casio keyboards a new lease of life. It's funny how back in 2003 you couldn't get away from people going on about how stuff like this sounds outdated and unusable in the 21st century but since the dawn of RU-vid many people have changed their minds and don't object to lofi sounds and there is also a desire to use go back to basics. Having a decent sounding drum machine forms the foundation of any music arrangement, this drum machine still sounds just as good today as it did back in the 80s and 90s, I can't understand why some people don't like 80s PCM drum machines.

Geez, the memories!!!! I was a 16 y.o. kid, had one of that, borrowed another from a friend and programmed the drum/bass/sequenced parts of "Shout" (Tears for Fears) as in the band we were'nt enough for all that parts :D :D Sold it 10 years after (in the '97) for an used Octapad, as my Ensoniq SQ1 and Korg Wavestation AD had all the drum sounds i needed. I miss that little thing :)

I had one of these many years ago. I used to program the congas and any unused buttons as a sequencer to trigger my alfa juno 1 managed to recreate save a prayer by the great DD. Another trick was to record on my 4 track (tascam 424)at a lower speed then set the speed back to normal this gave the 505 a whole new sharper sound. Sadly it was traded in for the SR16. now that was a great sounding drum machine at the time.

This was my first drum machine when I was in high school. I paid a lot for it and it was used. I loved the simple interface. I upgraded to the BOSS DR 660 soon after.

I used one of these when demoing songs with my mate for our first band; we would hook it up to a Fostex X18 4-track, he would sit and play acoustic guitar along with me, and I would trigger each pattern as we were playing, right into the 4-track to be added to later! Thinking about it now, its like rubbing sticks together to make fire! :-D

Back in 1986 I had a fun little analogue TR-606. But then the TR 505 came out and I could just about afford it (if I starved myself for a while). It was so exciting walking out that shop with it under my arm! I think it was £470. It sounded like a Linn Drum and looked like Marty’s DeLorean.

Had my 505 since new. its my cheap 707 and sounds just the same with some processing still use it on when I do some classic Chicago house stuff with the tr727, xoxbox, mc202 and tb03...still love it

Doctor Mix, Thank you for your awesome videos. I love the fact you are always happy and always smiling. You give off great vibes that make my day better. Seeing as you are super talented, is there any chance you could do a video teaching the basics of finger drumming, especially hand independence? Every time I try I end up with the same patterns, as my hands don't like working together and separately at the same time, if you see what I mean?

I got a 505 last month as a refurb project for lockdown...when i got it didn't power on, wouldn't take batteries...fixed that, now it makes sound, until it warms up i get a 16k whine and crunchy sounds. Working my way through replacing the caps and OP Amps. Midi in about Out work well which is good. Its not a bad little machine.

Have had one for ages ... now use it in combination with VCVRack to add some effects and currently looking into sending it some crazy rhythm sequences. I always thought it sounded really good. Nice vid!

I got one of these myself stored away on the attic. I used it quite frequently and sampled the sounds to use in a tracker named "Fast Tracker 2" back in the days. :P And... who does not love some nice Bossa nova. ^_^

Funny coincidence, I were going through some moving boxes last saturday (30/5), there I found this machine, which belongs to my brother (long story), picked it up and took some pics. Today this is fittingly in my recommendations so I could listen to it without plugging it in though now I am starting to feel I propably should. Also found a mangled TR-626. Very sceptical it gonna work since cords sticking out and what not. It seems someone wanted to mod it somehow (propably brother). What I was looking for was a Yamaha cs-15, but thats apparently still at my brother, unused...

Ah yes, the poor man's 707. I love the 505, it's highly underrated. I got one when I was 16 and obsessed with house and it did not disappoint with the cowbell, bd, and rimshot. Basically the same samples used in the 707. I'm honestly surprised it's not selling for much higher.
