1972.Jagger/Richards were both wrecked.Mick Taylor was 21 or so.They just finished recording Exile, and they were, without a doubt, the best rock and roll band in the world.
Bobby Keys and the Horn Section were on fire that night. IMO the best live version ever of Bitch! Thank you for posting this. Great clip and Great memories. Wish I was old enough to have seen them on this tour.
One of the most killer riffs in rock n roll - the Mick part is relatively easy to learn; man, it's physically impossible to play without a gigantic grin on yer face though.
This stuff will still be listened to in 500 years. They just don't do it as good today..music has been diluted. That's life hey The Rolling Stones in 1972 were the shit.
THIS is The Greatest Rock and Roll Band In The World at their GREATEST. Jaggers Lead Singer vibe is Crazy and Taylor slide is INSANE all while The Human Riff holds the Rhythm down. Awesome.
Perhaps iI am biased because I was front row @ The Garden in '72 when they came to town, but I have no problem with these guys proclaiming themselves as the world's greatest RnR band...none what-so-ever!
Gotta be my favorite version. Rivaled only by Perth '73, but Taylor's rhythm is much tighter in this version. Perth is great because Keith and Taylor do a dueling guitars thing during the outro, but I like Taylor playing rhythm like in this one.
love this. thanks for posting. charlie is a brilliant drummer. i think this song really shows off his drumming skills. brilliant. and the horns are great too.
Come on, Brian Jones was a driving force in the Stones from the beginning, 'Little Red Rooster', 'Time is on my side' 'Jumpin Jack Flash', all predecessors of a very inventive blues style, Ian Stewart was a GREAT loss to them as well as Brian, while I agree Taylor helped solidify the 'weave' sound of Keith's, and Ron followed that up well, I think there are great elements to all of their music, until Keith went solo and used all of his best stuff for his solo project. For me 'Undercover of the Night' was their last great single, and Darryl Jones stepping in around this time shifted them again, but it's also when they stopped being experimental, signed to Virgin, and became more of a hitmaking machine.....Taylor still doesn't have an answer for why he quit (according to Keith's book). Saw Taylor on a solo tour about 20 years ago. Great guitar player.
+Ivan Damico : Taylor quit because Mick & Keith wouldn't give him songwriting credits for songs he wrote, like "Time Waits For No One". He actually sued them for $50K for a solo they put on "Tops". (1981) Their last great single was "Love Is Strong". No other band could have written that, & "Doom & Gloom" is a close 2nd.
People don't realize how awesome Keith Richards is. I saw him live and in concert in 1977. He's the very best riffer in the history of rock. Number two would be Slash (Saul Hudson). Mick was the best frontman in the business ... ever. The Stones' rhythm section is the best ever. I'm telling you, folks. Keith Richards was the engine that drove rock's mightiest machine. I've seen their entier career. Yep. The whole thing. Keef Riffhard for President!
killer performance by mick...always at his best when he's gotta return to the mic stand instead of running around like a chicken with its fuckin head cut off!!
'Bust string' reminds me of early fleetwood mac, where peter green plays a great solo blues because Danny Kirwan had done just that. It's called 'World keeps turning!
Yup i recorded this Concert on my DVR. They show this on vh1 classic:). i like to watch and dance along. Even though I dont exactly have them moves like Jagger:)
I always thought this song perfectly embodied the stones, just dirty driving rock and roll. Something you could play down an alley way way too loud to piss off the neighbors with a smile on your face.
When this music came out, it was a shock in its raw beauty, Jagger possessed by his feminine side, his Dionysian daemon. It was a long way from the rock of the '50s...
"Bitch" - "Sticky Fingers" (1971) Feeling so tired, can't understand it Just had a fortnight's sleep I'm feeling so tired, Ow! so distracted Ain't touched a thing all week I'm feeling drunk, juiced up and sloppy Ain't touched a drink all night I'm feeling hungry, can't see the reason Just ate a horse meat pie Yeah when you call my name I salivate like a Pavlov dog Yeah when you lay me out My heart is beating louder than a big bass drum, alright Yeah, you got to mix it child You got to fix it must be love It's a bitch You got to mix it child You got to fix it but love It's a bitch, alright Sometimes I'm sexy, move like a stud Kicking the stall all night Sometimes I'm so shy, got to be worked on Don't have no bark or bite, alright Yeah when you call my name I salivate like a Pavlov dog Yeah when you lay me out My heart is bumpin' louder than a big bass drum, alright I said hey, yeah I feel alright now Got to be a... Hey, I feel alright now Hey hey hey Hey hey yeah...
I love Mick Taylor to death and wrote a lot about him in Wikipedia. On this song, he's simply playing the basic rhythm guitar track and Keef is riffing like hell to this song which makes it sound pretty awesome. I will always love Sticky Fingers album !
@MrMattyHaze - Exactly right. Mick Taylor was very good, great even. However, Keith Richards is (was) the engine of rock's mightiest machine ... The Rolling Stones. Mick, best frontman ever. Brian Jones, blazing genius until 1969. Ron Wood, looks like a Stone, acts like a Stone and totally fits in with the band. Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and Keith Richards were rock's greatest rhythm section. Keef Riffhard? Greatest rhythm guitarist ... riffmeister ... heart and soul of the band.
Sin lugar a dudas. Mick Taylor todo un virtuoso, el mejor guitarrista que ha habido en toda la historia de los Stones. Por eso lo corrió Keith Richards, por ser mucho más joven y tocar la guitarra mejor que él.
My God. How much do I love this video? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh, My favorite song on the Ladies and Gentlemen movie. Sometimes I'm sexy, kickin' the stall all night. Sometimes I'm so shy, Got to be worked on, Don't got no bark or bite. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, Love it!
The editor f-ed up. Keith plays a Les paul at 0:15 then at 0:38 is a fake shot with his tele. At 1:29 it shows him playing rhythm when he's really playing really lead. At 1:50 he's playing lead on his Lespaul (which is what he is really playing the whole song with Mick Taylor playing rhythm the whole time )
1969-1974 with Mick Taylor was the best the Stones ever were. I am glad I have about 100 boots of them during this period so I can enjoy them. MT was the best thing that every happened to them. Ronnie and Keith are nothing compared to Mick Taylor. MT was fresh and brought real skill and talent to the band, he left because of jealousy, drugs, lies and being bored with the band. I don't blame him. I will say tho the 69-74 Stones is the best line up and could compete with anyone
@glowasted999 i never noticed that, until i watched it again after reading your comment. very interesting. and just shows why mick jagger is the best frontman ever, and why they have lasted so long. other bands would have stopped and started the song again. but you can see mick trying to concentrate and ad lib some of it. thanks for that. it should be used in music classes. to show 'this is how it's done.'
