Goats Head Soup was one of the creepiest and darkest albums the stones have done, I love it! Mick had high expectations for Dancin' With Mr. D and I can understand why, it grooves so good and the lyrics are phenomenal. Don't know why it wasn't a success but, still a gem of a song I wish they would play today. Man, with dancin', angie, winter and star star, that album was a monster. Once again, a lot of people say they lost their streak on this but, no way. GHS is def in my top 5

+charlton mcmillen Love the song and its groove, but I think you gave the answer yourself to why it wasn't a hit song. Probably because it was too creepy and dark (black), so not "pop" enough for the general public's taste.

+charlton mcmillen Yes, right on, Charlton. I love this album which I've grown up on. Every song is pure magic! I adore Winter's solo by Mick Taylor and his on 100 Years Ago, but it's not good enough to single out songs because there are so many high points from all of the members on this classic.

Why do so many say this? GHS was hands down one of the most popular Stones album! I mean didn't everyone have this on 8-track when it first came out? On top of that there are some duds here but still a fine album. Personally I rate it about halfway up but that is becasue they Stones had better albums than any other band, let's face it.
@NilsamNY

Goats Head Soup is vastly underrated. It has some of the most powerful and experimental songs the Stones have done. It's definitely their most keyboard-driven album with amazing piano keyboard and organ playing from Billy Preston, Ian Stewart and Nicky Hopkins. I think Mick Taylor is at his best - his solos soar throughout.

That time Jerry Hall ran past me outside an Eurythmics concert in nyc, mid 80’s, and smooshed my foot with her high heel. After she maimed me I thought, Mick’s gotta be near by. He ran past a few minutes later. I hobbled over to the limo and kept pounding on the windows yelling, “the least you could do is give me lips.” Then I kept yelling “give me lips” until he gave me lips. My foot still hurts to this day but it makes me smile.

The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep Mick Taylor in the band. For starters, they could have PAID him. He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals. (perhaps the reason you don't see him smiling very much) I don't know about you, but I like getting paid for my work. In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. They did not... With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY, Keef couldn't hold a candle to him. Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist. Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius. Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana. No doubt about it. The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics. The band was never the same after 1974.

I think Mick Jagger was disgusted about the reception he received for "Paint 🎨 It Black 🖤," so this song is a satirical representation of how he felt about it. It makes me appreciate the album even more.

Think the 70’s was the stones best time, ably assisted by mick Taylor, who, imho is an incredible player, who pushed Keith to up his game.

One cool thing about Keith is that he stopped brushing his hair some time in late 1968/early 1969.

Listen to the lyrics people, "A drink of belladonna on a Toussaint night." Who writes like that today? No one, that's who.

The first time I heard this track .. those lyrics really stood out as sequel to Sympathy . That's what makes him so unique his ability to write with enthusiasm .... avid reader .

[On this comment I couldn't edit & correct my typo "inforgettable" for some reason so have deleted the original and published again!"] I had to give my cat some homeopathic Belladonna the other day and I quoted this line straight at my mum "A drink of Belladonna on a Toussaint Night"! complete with the Mick Jagger inflexion! An unforgettable line.

Bought the vinyl 39 years ago and it wasn't really the rock album I expected then. But through the years it became my favourite one and is, to me, their most achieved album in terms of musicality.

MiCk lookin’ like Pennywise with the lips, tongue, teeth, mascara and nails here-kinda adds to the whole ‘dancing with death’ creepy eeriness of the number if you ask me…a nice touch, I f-king love it! 💃🏻🔥☠️🤟🏻💋

Classic tune, classic look, from a classic band. Just coming off their '72 Tour, and tasting a bit of glam (and smack) themselves, this clip is a gem! You can tell that the Stones were firing on all cylinders in '72 and '73.....music, image, attitude. Keith and Charlie will always exude "cool", and Mick Taylor nails it here. Like the look, but love the playing! A real treat to see him with the band for the 50th shows in Chicago and NJ.
