Man, a plethora of great rock songs work as instrumentals - the Stones had a lot, the Beatles had a lot, the Monkees, the Dave Clark Five - they all had a plethora of songs that work as instrumentals.
In the 60s the stones "stereo" recordings always put the vocals into either speaker channel. One could then turn the balance to the other channel and create these "rare mixes." My personal favorite was "2000 light years from home" with only the Mellotron...
Software that takes the sound from the centre, present in both L and R channels, and removes it is the usual culprit. At-home studio "remixes" are often the work of amateurs playing around with software. Not true alternate mixes from multitrack tapes. Rendering these "outfakes" and not "outtakes." A shitload of edited takes like this of Elvis material has made the rounds on limited edition (worthless to collectors but perhaps interesting once or twice to listen to) CDs.
Yes, it helps. But in order to drive a band, you have to have solid drums and bottom end. The song would have still driven even without Brian's great sitar work. Man was an incredible musician. I am still blown away by his recorder work on "Ruby Tuesday!"
Great version love all the songs your sharing thinking of putting them on minidisc nice to listen to in the background after a stressful day so relaxing
I wanna see ya paint it! Paint it black! Black as night! Black as coal! I wanna see the sun! Blotted out from the sky! I wanna see ya paint it, paint it, paint it, paint it black! Yeah!
while instrumental is amazing - wow those drums and the bass line - I still need that haunting vocals by Jagger. Does not sound as great as it should without it.
Lyrics I see a red door And I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes I see a line of cars And they're all painted black With flowers and my love Both never to come back I've seen people turn their heads And quickly look away Like a newborn baby It just happens everyday I look inside myself And see my heart is black I see my red door I must have it painted black Maybe then, I'll fade away And not have to face the facts It's not easy facing up When your whole world is black No more will my green sea Go turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing Happening to you If I look hard enough Into the setting sun My love will laugh with me Before the morning comes I see a red door And I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by Dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head Until my darkness goes I wanna see it painted Painted black Black as night Black as coal I wanna see the sun Blotted out from the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted Painted black, yeah
I can't decide whether I prefer the vocal version or this version. I listen to one and think I prefer that, then listen to the other and think I prefer that. The vocal version is kind of heartbreaking, but the guitars when it switches to the hook sound so good!
a 1000 years later & we're still discovering new/old ROLLING STONES classics in the form of instrumentals, I could go on but I'm getting a little tipsy here, so I'll call it a night, 2000 LIGHT YEARS FROM HOME is the best/ultimate song (we'll PLANET CLAIRE to) of all tyme & I'm a Metal~Head. Take care everyone & thanks for listening ✌️to all SPACE RANGER JYM 🚀
i remember tom petty played this on his buried treasure radio show. i think he said it might be illegal but he was playing it anyway. lol great stones song.
I overlooked this baseline (especially from 1:56 on) until being stoned as hell driving over a massive bridge at night...completely different perspective on the song and can someone tell me why this is illegal?
I see your red door, I want it painted black No colors any more, I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head until my darkness goes I see the line of cars and they're all painted black With flowers and my love, both never to come back I see people turn their heads and quickly looked away Like a newborn baby it just happens everyday I look inside myself and see my heart is black I see my red door, I must have it painted black Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing happening to you If I look hard enough into the setting sun My love will laugh with me before the morning comes (I want to see your face painted black Black as night, black as coal See the sun blotted out from the sky) I've seen your red door and I want it painted black No colours any more, I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
