Are you trying to say that The Rolling Stones didn’t write Wild Horses? Because there are interviews where Gram says they definitely wrote it. His recording just happened to be released first.
ehhh, the Stones were great from 69-74 when they had Mick Taylor. If you all really hate Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile, and It's only Rock N' Roll something is fucking wrong with you.. Their early work with Brian Jones was decent too... Beggars Banquet is iconic. Music snobs forget one thing... It isn't about how difficult you can play the guitar and how much you understand music theory. You wanna know the key to being a really successful musician??? Making catchy tunes that sound good. End of story... More people will remember the Rolling Stones vs Joe Satriani.
You are incorrect. In fact, Lennon/McCartney penned the first "non-cover" song the Stones recorded and got a hit with "I Wanna be Your Man". When the Beatles got around to recording it themselves, they thought highly enough of it to give it to the vocal force that is Ringo. Still, however, the Stones are now lame as shit.
So what if Keith Richards don't likes rap? I don't like it neither. I don't like most of the jazz, r'n'b, house, techno etc. I have the right to dislike it,the same way you dislike the Rolling Stones.
@@briancrawford8751 you don't like the Rolling Stones, they don't like rap. Probablly, most of the rappers don't give a shit about the Stones. You may be right, don't go on foreign territory if you don't get it. I don't know shit about classical music, don't get it. And i keep my mouth shut
Explain “Exile” to me? It’s simply the most boring collection of R&B I ever heard. I tried three times - and it got worse each time. You can tell it was done on heroin. It’s Profoundly unadventurous. But it became hip to praise it for some odd reason (the jerk offs at Rolling Stone magazine). So, you have white English guys recording Blues in France? Can it get any less authentic than that?? But “Tattoo You” has some very good stuff. The “Heaven” track is underrated. Quite inventive for them. “Heartbreaker”, “Miss You”, “Emotional Rescue” are very good too. And the track before the amazingly dull “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is the great “Monkey Man.” Not much else for me. To even begin comparing them to The Beatle’s catalogue is simply a joke. Almost funny really. But you can’t say they “suck” since they have some undisputable gems.
well i mean you compared a tiny discography that spans like seven years and a discography that spans several decades. it's pretty obvious that one of them is more consistent, but while the two were contemporaries, The Kinks were, easily, the better one. and trust me if the Beatles were to continue their career past 1970, they would not have been nearly as highly regarded as they are.
This one is really weak, the mistakes are too many to name. Andrew Loog Oldham wasn't originally involved with the Beatles. They didn't kick Brian out, it was by mutual consent. Brian badly beat up and psychologically abused Anita, so fine for Keith to take her. Brian only played sitar on one track. Also the blues acts you cite probably wouldn't have been heard of if the Stones didn't originally popularize them.
@@highnumber9494 I take your point about Loog Oldham having had some work from Brian Epstein, but that's still not quite how it's presented here-( actually this piece is so shabby and superficial they don't actually cite ALO by name, I'm just presuming) it gives the impression ALO was a puppetmaster wielding some sinister backstairs Machiavellian power derived from his connection to The Beatles to promote The Stones. You'd think from this rendering ALO was a Derek Taylor figure high up in the Beatles organisation. Ahem...there's two differing accounts of how The Stones acquired 'I Wanna Be Your Man', one of which excludes ALO. Brian being 'kicked out' implies he was 100% committed to the Stones and pushed out against his will. Which we both know is obviously not the case. He wasn't turning up to stuff, or strung out on drugs, and definitely not the innocent injured party as presented here. Beyond that, they'd grown apart. ''The music Mick and Keith have been writing has progressed at a tangent, as far as my own taste is concerned.” The split was coming regardless. BTW I think a great attack on the Stones could be written, but this attempt is pisspoor.
Creamline Dairies and if I’m not mistaken they’re implying that Wild Horses was a cover when there’s interviews of Gram explaining that Mick and Keith showed him the song
The stones brought ppl like John Lee hooker, howlin wolf, etc out on tour, these cats weren't getting gigs before that. I did always kind of respect that
Absolutely, the Stones made many blues artists a lot of money by bringing them out of obscurity. These 2 clowns are angry and Jealous and have a gimmick to get peoples to watch their videos. This Tyler Coe idiot has no room to talk. He played with his dad in the Absolute worst part of his career.
There's also Ian Stewart. The founding member who they turned into a roadie because of his looks. Then they included him in the HOF like it was some grand gesture. More proof that music and integrity never mattered to these guys.
Really? Mick is the best rock frontman, and Keith is one of the greatest rock songwriters and guitarists. Marginal talent? You and I and the at least seven who agreed with your stupid comment should be so fortunate to have even a tiny fraction of their "marginal" talent.
@@Glicksman1 I wouldn't say marginal but Mick doesn't have half the vocal vocal talent of say Freddie Mercury or even performance for that matter. Dylan, Lennon, Clapton etc. are far superior songwriters. You could argue none of their guitar riffs are as iconic as sweet child o mine, smoke in the water, back in black and so on. I am not their fan but seems like their most iconic songs are satisfaction or gimme shelter? and they aren't necessarily well written, have iconic guitar solos or vocal performance.
@@EarthlingNo7 Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Music isn't a high school football game where we sit on opposite sides of the field and root for our team. These comparisons and judgemental attitudes are unnecessary and pointless. Just enjoy what you enjoy and leave your ears and mind open to new and other things as well. Peace and health, mate.
@@EarthlingNo7 Yeah, "Gimme Shelter" is probably their best song, imo. They have A LOT of shitty album filler songs, and some of those became hit singles.
Your comments about marketing being endemic in human civilisation throughout history are absolutely on point. I need to print that out and put it on the wall.
You guys missed one tidbit about the MC Escher story. After Escher refused the original request and told Jagger not to call him Maurits, Mick Jagger had the audacity to keep pushing the envelope. The original request was for Escher to design a brand-new, previously unpublished image for the Rolling Stones. When Escher denied the request, Mick Jagger sent *another letter* requesting to use an already published MC Escher image instead, called "Verbum", which is a really cool hexagonal image. Escher denied this second request as well. But the story goes even further. Jagger then decided to re-create the Verbum image, and the album was released with a crappy hexagonal design on the album cover, that was a crappy imitation of the Escher image. So even after being denied twice, the guy basically attempts to plagiarize Escher's work, because not getting his way was not an option. Anyway, the Rolling Stones are probably the most overrated band of all time, right after The Beatles. People who like the Rolling Stones are usually baby boomers with the most boring taste in music. They are generally people stuck in the past who are trying to relive their high school years. They are usually people who dislike rap and hip hop, so I am not at all surprised that Keith Richards said that retarded thing about rap.
That was shitty but this statement is a generalization, I love them and I love rap music, hip hop, neo-soul, R&B, blues, soul and many other genres of music. A band can't be that successful if they had nothing going for them, that's just unrealistic. still, The boomers who won't listen to anything new are infuriating.
@@patriciawilson9666how can anyone hate The Rolling Stones whoever doesn’t like the stones they don’t like music the stones are an amazing band but I think they should have hung it up a long time ago when baseplayer Bill Wyman left I knew the band ended the band should have hung it up after steel wheels
@@mikebarooshian7255every major label band up to and including the Beatles has been a direct or indirect psyop with the singular purpose of social engineering the masses. Unfortunately, we all got fooled but it is what it is
With an exception of like 3 songs from some girls and tattoo you total, they have had nothing really good imo since the 70s. Do I love them yes, but really only brian jones', mick taylor's era, and a few songs here and there with ronnie wood, but ronnie wood was day and night better in The Faces, which imo is an overall better band. Even as a general "fan" of the band, half the albums at least are meh. In theory brian jones was kicked out because he was "more" of a drunkie than the rest of them and couldnt stay sober for the recording sessions, but frankly theres a good chance the glimmer twins got jealous yes. Its generally funny that even my "favorite" bands consist of nowhere near their full catalogue being songs I like. Exile on main street (1972) was pretty much the last album that I liked the whole thing in their catalogue. Goats head had 3 songs on it (2 being some of the best they had ever made really) that were good, with Tatoo you being the last album with any ounce of interest to me. (none of emotional rescue the album right before). While I obviously still hold my sentiment of them being one of my favorites, I dont just change my opinion on a dime with just one video, but the thing that i vehemently hate with the stones is their lack of anything even interesting or slightly original after 81 (yes you can argue that they rip off many other artists for lots of their sound). They became caricatures of their older albums making new songs that were essentially just rebrands of old hits of theirs. I hold them dear to me, but even things that bring me great joy have their faults, in cases such as this, theyre always chasing a peak in their abilities that they will never come close to even what they had in the 60s and 70s.
I wish my band sounded and sucked just like them. I was a teenager when the Stones' first album was released and I've been a big fan since. I was a professional musician for three decades. I have no children (by choice). I still play in a band and we only do a couple of Stones tunes. We do many more by Neil Young, The Beatles, and The Byrds. We enjoy ourselves, smile and we think it's pretty cool to still be able to make great music that we love. So what's all this about "Dad Bands"? You know, constructing broad, general, one-size-fits-all boxes to put people in, even if you're half or mostly kidding, is what really sucks. If you get really lucky you just might get to be as old as Keith Richards, although you'll never have his talent and grace (or money).
Neil Young, The Birds (they can't even spell a five letter word so I corrected it) , The Beatles and The Rolling Stones? They are all so bad. Seriously... have you not heard any Limp Bizkit? Maybe start now and if you practice, you may be able to do a half decent Limp Bizkit cover in 10 years or so...
@@chrisr3553 I appreciate your irony and humour. You might have also corrected The Beatles' mispelling. It should be The Beetles, right? Still working on that Limp Bizkit cover (sigh).
Re: "Dad Rock", to quote Mike and the Mechanics, "Every generation, blames the one before, all of their frustrations come beating on your door" Thats what this is about. All this shitting on classic rock is the Millenial middle finger to what came before. "You guys are old and holding us back, therefore you suck and all you hold dear sucks too." Not saying they don't have some legitimate grievances here, but it's taken too far.
@@Mysteriouso100Thanks, I agree. Music has no age or generation. It just is. Like it or not, it doesn't care. I just keeps (rocking and) rolling along.
Get your quotes right. Keith never said he’d rather be dead than singing satisfaction at 45. That was Jagger And who cares at 25, 45 seems old but hang around long enough that you will be that age in no time
thank you for acknowledging zeppelin and sabbath, Sure they aren't articulate to the degree of cream but led zeppelin is a fantastic band that has been ridden by mainstream appeal. Thank you so much! I saw that you guys made a video about them and its not so much that I'm a "zeppelin fan boy" I just didn't want to hear about people ragging how plant sounds like a girl, they stole blues music, john bonham is more brawn than brains, and jpj can't play bass. All those things are untrue so thank you for acknowledging them. I found this channel by literally looking up the rolling stones suck because I fucking hate the rolling stones. Sticky Fingers is a good listen but I can't even call it a good album. Beggars Banquet sucked...Let it Bleed....sucked, Exile....sucked. These are 3 albums at their peak that to me just sucked. And people want to say they like the stones but i bet if they sat down with you and played these albums track by track they would look like fools. Say what you have to about zeppelin, they may deserve some criticism for being the start of the cock rock era, but damn are they world class musicians and could write killer songs. Rolling stones literally just use the template of american late 50's R &B and just to me fucking suck. I mean they fucking suck dude. More than any other band youv'e made a video of they just blow chunks. Charlie Watts is a killer drummer with a great backbeat, Keith Richards is an amazing rhythm guitarist, and even mick has a good voice. But put them all together there themes are fucking awful, powerless, meaningless, redundant. OMG they just suck.. Thank you for this!
These guys are a joke. They praised Zeppelin in this video but then made a video how Zeppelin sucks. It's all a gimmick to get people to click on their vids.

Jesse Richard So you just ignore the fact that they wrote songs like sympathy for the devil or 100 years ago, And albums like sticky fingers and exile on Main Street. She’s so cold wasn’t supposed to be a deep lyrical song it was released in the 80s for god damn sake. Man you must be one of those fucktards who only listen singles and think they know it all.
But Mick Taylor is one of the best rock blues guitarists ever. With them made great things together. Stones are naive players. Jagger sings like a dog and his voice is not powerful. But 68/72 era was great. Bad live concerts for their poor tecnique. Garage rock.
Another site claims their Bass Player plays 2 notes . If boredom is a root cause of Dementia , it explains their Drummers’ mental demise without question 😁
That's all 90% of these famous bands. They're famous for being famous. They were is big as they were because that's how their record labels promoted them. Pop music then was the same as it is today: astroturfed.
If you think Bowie suck you're a fucking idiot, seriously you don't have to like him but if you can't appreciated what he did with his music then quite frankly you have to be a fucking idiot.
I’m browsing through this podcast. What you say at 9:15 is not true. You are referring to Andrew Loog Oldham who was a publicist for the Beatles before he became the manager of the Stones. Andrew Oldham denies that he marketed the Stones as an ant-Beatles. He also did not tell them to grow their hair long. Dithching their matching suits in favor of the casual look and growing their hair long was something the Stones did on their own and were not told to by management as a marketing strategy. One of the great misconceptions of the Stones story. However, it was very controversial and caused a lot of negative press at the time which worked in their favor.
They have put out over 100 songs I personally like some not as much but there greatness is undeniable I saw them live three time's and they were very entertaining unlike your sorry production
You don't have to be original to be creative. In fact, just about all music takes from what came before. This is just as true for the "original" blues musicians who were working their craft before The Stones came along, and it's just as true for every band or musician that came after them (Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, The White Stripes, The Black Keys anybody?) While I agree that comparing them with The Beatles is a non-starter, it's miserly not to give them their due for their contributions to blues, rock and country music.
A lot of Stones is shit filler, they're right about that. I don't know anyone who'd say their average song quality is anywhere near that of, say, Zeppelin's. But then other stuff in this show... like Gram Parsons' Wild Horses just blows donkey balls compared to the incomparable groove and just coolness of the Stones and how their better songs, like this very song, hit the ear. That's why they were great. That's why Keith is a great guitar player, because he's just charismatic as fuck. No one gives a shit about any of the criticisms they levied here. Just a totally stupid show.
Mick Jagger always sounded like he was shouting rather than singing. And there were times when he would he would attempt to sing, and fail miserably. The song, "Ruby Tuesday," is a good song, but Mick Jagger couldn't hit all the notes.
Terrible music. A voice that hurts your ears. They never go away. Proof that working hard with no talent can make you famous as long as you don't quit. The stones inspired many others to start a band because they see that you could literally have no talent, can not sing, or play instruments and still be a rock star.
I think The Stones are okay but you're right about many points. First of all, I don't think they ever made a great album. They've got quite a few great songs but the songwriting is somewhat inconsistent for their whole career. I listen to the Stones every now and then but never a whole album because I genuinely don't think that highly of any of them. Also, their earliest stuff really sucks. Btw, "Wild Horses" is somewhat boring song played by anyone.
Street Fighting Man was not a hit because it was a bad record - it got no airplay in America because of sensitivities about it's political content at the time of Vietnam. Also, the market had shifted toward albums and away from singles after approx 68 to 9.
@@Rockandrollgeerage They always make anti-white jabs and generally use excessive libtard schoolmarm moralizing and unfunny insults. That's all trivial shit, irrelevant to the topic of why an artist sucks. If you want to criticize a punk band, you might mention how the whole scene was an intel psyop meant to divide generations and prepare young minds for social change no one ever wanted, so Johnny Rotten et al's lack of musical talent was given to people in a viscerally appealing way to help form dumb punk values in their heads so they would hate their history and welcome dumb policy that was bad for them. But instead it's like 'did you know Mick Jagger was just a skinny white guy playing black music? What a dumb white guy, like me.'
For the record led zeppelin didn't make blues any better either, nor did country music. I agree for the most part with a lot here but while we're talking about cultural appropriation and things like that, country only exist so white ppl didnt have to listen to black musicians to hear the blues...
I find it amusing you guys think any of this shit is even real to begin with. The origin stories and song myths are especially hilarious. Everyone’s favorite and least favorite band is the wrecking crew.
Enjoyed, but do think you underrated the Mick Taylor years quite hard. "Moonlight Mile" is the GOAT song of rock and roll imho. After Mick Taylor, basically no redeeming qualities though, just pure commerce dad rock.
Can see their point on kiss being overrated. Not The Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones. Always second class citizen to the Beatles. Once the Beatles broke up The Rolling Stones. Had best material in the 70s up early 80s string of bad albums
I don't understand the relevance of the MC Escher anecdote. Jagger is guilty of...writing a fan letter? Gushing? The Stones had credibility up to (roughly) the point of 'Some Girls', so didn't really need MC Escher for anything. The cover of 'Through the past..' is one of their great covers.
Even in 1982 folk my then age - 18 were buying tickets Purely so they could say they’d seen them . It’s a fact. You didn’t mention how the Bass Player Bill Wyman around then had a 13 yr old girlfriend called Mandy Smith. He was 53 I believe. The tabloid newspapers made a fuss but her mum was ok with it . Perhaps it never made your news . Fuck knows how he got away with that as although that may seem a long time ago , old blokes didn’t go round ‘ courting ‘ 13 yr olds no matter how tall they were . Maybe nothing happened until she was legal but it was still pretty weird 🤔
Dude I found my people 😂 I never liked this band, and anyway, I saw a thumbnail of someone who posted a Rolling Stone guitar cover, and it just reminded me of this old view I've always had about how much this band sucks, and so for shits n giggles, I searched "the Rolling Stones suck", and this was the first thing that popped up lol I always get hate for this, but I don't care... but I never like TRS, and I really don't see why they're SO loved and held to such HIGH esteem! I'm pushing 40, so I'm not an out of touch zoomer when it comes to this, and I still think they blow. The music just sucks, and even as a guitar player, there is literally nothing special or stylish about the playing. Mick Jagger is a shitty vocalist, and Kieth Richards is an average level of proficiency in playing guitar, and the playing is _so_ vanilla. The music again... I mean, "Satisfaction" is their biggest song, and it's so simple and redundant that is like being on a really slow, boring, bad carnival ride that WON'T STOP and every else has their hands up and are screaming and orgasming like it's the best fkn ride of all time, and when it finally ends, THEY WANT MORE! 😂 I like many different genres of music, but rock (as an umbrella term for all types of rock including metal) is my favorite probably, which was the first type of music that I first got into, and I like The Beatles and Elvis, etc. (I'm not one who just likes the newest trends and shits on anything older than me), but I do not, nor ever have understood the hype of TRS. The song writing SUCKS! (All their years) Maybe it was revolutionary back in their day, maybe it was "fast" or "heavy", but it's literally like... Applebee's rock, yet they act and talk like (and are seen as) being so... Idk the word... I'd say edgy, but it's corny as HELL! lmao I mean, singing songs about "rock and roll" is the _cheesiest, laziest, most cliche musical cop-out, EVER._ (It's Only Rock n Roll). I also hate Deftones and Tool, which I get a lot of hate for. The Beatles are way better and way more talented and innovative than TRS. The Beatles also had a lot more impact in culture and pop culture around the world, like, the American government literally had a vendetta to get rid of John Lennon! Lol Helter Skelter rocks harder than any RS song, (edit: ha! you guys even said it!) meanwhile TRS dress like middle aged mothers trying to look "hip", and then they banged a bunch of underage girls/groupies/date and bang underage teenage girls.
