if you haven’t come across it already, Maurice by E. M. Forster is another gay classic which follows two boys at university in England. it was written sometime in the early 20th century but not published until after the authors death in the 70’s, and I think you’d really enjoy it
If anyone doesn’t know, an incredible follow-up book to Maurice is Alec by William di Canzio! Follows Maurice after the ending of E. M. Forster’s masterpiece.
@@rubberbandball97 oh thank you for sharing this, this had somehow escaped me and I did not know about it. 'Fell in love' with Maurice in the early 90's so now will have to read Alec
Also In Memoriam by Alice Winn is also a fantastic queer novel set in WWI, which ususally im like ew war genre but let me tell you THIS BOOK OOOOFFFFTTTTTTTTT
I just started watching your videos and have been enjoying all of them! I tend to be a silent viewer but know comments help creators so just thought I’d stop to say hello and let you know I love your content!
I absolutely adored Tin Man, then I read Sarah Winman's other books and she quickly became one of my favourite authors. I met her briefly at a book talk/launch/signing last year in Brisbane.
I’ve been wanting to read Honeybee for months, maybe a year now, but it doesn’t seem to be sold in America (at least in my area). You might have convinced me to just order it already haha.
Excellent video and selection of titles! I’ve read a bit more then half, though Young Mungo pulls ahead for me as the favorite of Stuart’s work, I’m still haunted by that ending. You’ve really hit on a nice wide variety of books, but it’s exciting to know you have so much more left to read as Queer literature just keeps expanding exponentially each year with more and more excellent titles. I feel I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend a title, so I’m going with The Master by Colm Toibin, who is a Queer writer, but who casts a wide net about what he writes about. The Master is basically a biography of writer Henry James, but somewhat images his inner life of being a Queer man who may, or may not have gotten the chance to fully explore and experience that side of himself completely. Toibin did a similar novel about Thomas Mann exploring that rather buried part of his life as well and is quite excellent too.
hey is there any books you really liked that you would die to read again for the first time ik getting back into reading and i need a few recommendations,,:-)
took a shot every time you said sweaty 🤪 looooved the aussie representation! and loved this! such a lovely easy access list to queer lit! have you done All Down Darkness Wide? so many people have rec'd it to me and seemed fitting in this list. need to get my hands on it!
Hello Charlee, first time commenting. Great selection of books. We have a very similar taste in queer literature. You might enjoy The Line of Beauty by Alan Holinghust ;)
I just discovered your channel I was going to comment that your queer literature selection was only about gay men but then you presented the argonauts, and that this is the greenest of all green flags so thanks for that!
If you’re looking for more queer poetry, I have to recommend you Don’t Call Us Dead by Danez Smith. One of the best poetry collections I’ve ever read. For queer fiction, The Song of Achillies, A Single Man and The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Grateful to youtube for recommending this to me. This was so nice and relaxing to watch. Some great picks, too. I actually have Tin Man and Swimming in the Dark on my shelf, haven't got around to them yet though.
