This is the Re-challenge by the Navy from June 2015, a bit better then before but still with an 'EPIC FAIL' Watch my first to see the original challenge.
When the guy was still on the ropes, it reminded me of the Royal Marines commandos episodes. At the intro the guy says "Don't just hang there, you look like a piece of drying meat". 😄.
I did my Commando course at the end of 1971 into 1972. I hated this exercise. I failed it every bloody time for about 4 months until I learned the secret of keeping your arms bent when you take your feet off so you were just that little bit higher when you swung back up. Then nailed it every time. The tank is bigger now but still in roughly the same place. I can confirm that in winter that water is COLD!! Very refreshing though!!!
Mine was a year or so after you and I had exactly the same problem. At first i just thought that I had a weak grip and worked to strengthen my wrists and fingers, then I was told by the PTI about keeping my arms bent and the rest as they say is history LOL. I can also confirm how refreshing (and filthy) the water is in the winter. You got to remember, we also did it wearing full kit and it was a lot harder with a SLR hanging off your back, not like the wee SA80 that sits comfortably in the middle of their back LOL.
Full respect for all these guys though in both the Navy and Royal Marines - I can imagine its harder than it looks - but also just for serving. Thanks lads, hopefully ill be joining you guys in the Royal Marines in a few years.
