See the Civil Code, see the battle of Austerlitz, which is admirably prepared, it is one of the most beautiful battles in the history of France. Napoleon goes fast, he doesn't waste time, always in a hurry, but despite everything, as he says, when there is a problem of strategy, he is tormented until the moment when he makes his decision. I've been fascinated by Charlemagne ever since I learned about him (I think in a college history class maybe 15ish years ago). It's kind of funny - it sounds like he might have looked kind of like Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones and it sure sounds like they acted alike and loved fighting. I wonder if he was based on Charlemagne or something... It's almost like a lot of modern historic medieval fantasy type stories are loosely based on him. And lately I've been extremely fascinated with the fall of the Western Roman Empire so it all kind of ties together. Obviously, I'm not an expert and there's always more to learn but it's just an interesting transition from the Roman Empire to the Western and Eastern Roman Empire through to "barbarians" taking control of what was left of the Western Roman Empire to Charlemagne, his ancestors and the foundations of modern-ish Europe and the Holy Roman Empire. When I was a kid, I just knew kind of standalone stories of individual empires but not how one transitioned to another and that's one of the most fascinating things in history to me - how one empire falls and another one rises. One last thing I find kind of ironic is: as long as the Western Roman Empire existed they were fighting with the Gauls, Germanic Tribes and etc "barbarians" and when the Western Roman Empire finally died and these "barbarians" inherited it's ashes and they finally started to settle down and form stable kingdoms, then _they_ started having problems with the Vikings then a large portion of the Vikings were settled as Normans. I know it's a vast oversimplification but it's just an interesting cycle.
