This is the first video I've ever seen from your channel. Within 28 seconds you got me to click the subscribe button based on how clear everything stated. Bravo. Continued success both of you.
killer demo, guys! I wasn't in the market for one of these, but after hearing this, I now have the GAS for one! It sounds great. That light had me zoning out for the first few minutes...maybe it hypnotized me into wanting to play it!? 🤣 🐰👍
That light will suck you in for sure! Boss makes good stuff and this pedal is no exception. I wanted one for years, I am glad we did this series so I finally had an excuse to pick one up.
I’ve found that my Boss Rotary-20, a little slapback delay, and the wah-wah set just right will make for a good organ like sound, works great on old R&B songs, etc. This Boss Rotary is one of my most used and liked pedals.
I’m not sure I’ve used a leslie type pedal with a wah but I have with an envelope filter. That sounds great so I’m it would on the right setting with a wah too. I really liked the boss rotary. Under appreciated for sure! -Beard
I have a Leslie and a boss pedal. I have to say the rotor ramp emulation is PERFECT. Of course the real Leslie is 3D in the room. But as an effect in a band setting with a guitar the RT20 works well. It does colour your sound a bit but in a good way
I like this one better than most ! I have a friend who has one of these and his sounds incredible ! Maybe because I'm in the same room with it, instead of hearing it on the internet ?
Awesome. Have had one of these forever. Been using rotary since ‘93. Intelifex rack unit was the beginning for me. Love my Rotosphere, but so big. Looking to hear your take on the mini vent II.
I use the Rotosphere every week. I love it too, but luckily my Sunday rig stays on stage so moving it isn't a problem. All the Neo stuff is killer. The mini vent two and the rotosphere are scheduled to be recorded this week if all goes as planned. Once the mini vent is in the can I will bump it up on the release list and get it out for you. Possibly next week, but we have an interview that might mess up recording for this week.
Not a pedal steel player myself but figure it would be a similar approach. I typically put them after drive pedals but before the reverb and delay. I have a Rotosphere that really likes the effects loop of the amp if that is a possibility. I have also used it before drive pedals like a univibe. Some interesting things happen if you run them after delay and reverb as it will effect the trials more. I don’t think the volume pedal will have as much as an effect on this one as it would on a drive pedal. Basically, just experiment until you find something you like. You’ll find something that works for you.
Can you guys try the Keeley Dark Side? Curious what your guys opinions are on the rotary, as well as the other effects, but I'm mainly curious on how the rotary lives up to other rotary emulations.
Great recommendation. Keeley has a couple pedals with rotary in them like the DCR and Dyna-My-Roto. We don't have our hands on the DCR or Dark Side at the moment, but it is something that could happen down the road. Basically, the series will never be over. We did put out a video on Keeley's Dyna-My-Roto. I don't know if they are using the same algorithm for the Dark Side, but it may give you some insight into how they do Rotary. That Dark Side though... that looks like some intense fun!
@@PJandtheBeard Yeah, it does look like some serious fun. Was gonna get the RT20 but I also was looking for a fuzz, and a vibe so I ended up spending a bit more to get a used Dark Side. My gut tells me that the boss is definitely the better rotary, but the Dark Side is definitely cool all around. Gotta love that Gilmour sound, as well as the op-amp for pumpkins stuff.
I find this question a hard one to answer. The boss sounds great and has more options and models. It is definitely a solid choice. Overall the Vents just sound amazing but with less options and models, but that thing they do they do really well. Worth the price if you can afford it and want one of the best sounding Leslie pedals out there. The rotosphere is super unique too. I think it does it’s own thing. It not only sounds unique but the expression pedal options make it do something completely different than the rest. All that said, if you like the boss pedal I don’t think you can go wrong with it. Boss is always good but I was still surprised at how well it stood up to the other pedals. -Beard
Thanks! I have a few 80s chorus boxes that do a good faux Leslie but wanted something a little more realistic. It doesn’t need to sound as realistic as a real Leslie per se but not a unrealistic sample. I’m guessing what I’m trying to say is does it sound Leslie? Or does it still have elements that still sound like a chorus pedal? I’ve had a few vibe pedals and some expensive ones although I’m currently running a mojo hand gyro which is enough for me in the vibe department. I thought with these boss Leslie pedals being rather inexpensive will it pass for being enough for my board? Would you use it on your board and be happy? Cheers
I mean Leslie speakers are pretty synonymous with Hammond organs, but they have been used with guitars a lot too. There are numerous famous recordings with guitars through leslie speakers. Most of these pedals were designed for either guitars or both guitar and keyboards.
Boss RT-20 ftw. The lester G sucks ass big time. I think its way too expensive and on the fastest fast speed it has an awful metallic ring mod like sound
I have one that I bought new 5 or so years ago. I run it thru the fx loop along with an Ibanez FL-9. Friggin Old Man Benny Kenobi = "The Gilmour is strong in this one. So what If I smell like puke, piss and cheap wine where's my RT Unit. Don't use the cheap force that you can buy on the street corner Luke! Dat shit be Lame, Search on Amazon for the good stuff, Hey! Where's my lighter??? Did that friggin Wookie steal my lighter again??? I'm going back to Andor where they respect a brother."
Great find. We have to move a bunch of the leslie pedals we had for the series and this is one that I am sorry I let go. Besides the cool lights, it is a great sounding unit.
