The ruin of Doriath was the ultimate conclusion of dooms, curses, and oaths coming into that Elven Kingdom of the Silmarillion. From the tales of Húrin and his family to the greed of Dwarves and the fire of the sons of Fëanor, Doriath and its king Thingol met their final fates during the First Age of Middle-earth. Thank you all so much for watching, let me know your thoughts about the ruin of Doriath in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Hey everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the video! I wanted to add that in 473 of the First Age, the Havens of the Falas were besieged and captured by Morgoth's forces. This was the same year that Túrin arrived in Doriath. Brithombar and Eglarest were destroyed and Barad Nimras were cast down. Thanks, if I come across more that I missed in this video, I'll add it here!

And these Game of Thrones Fanboys always say that Tolkien's works are too positive and sunny.

This part of Silmarillion always makes me sad. Elves, dwarfs and men are fighting each other and Morgoths wins by doing almost nothing. He just sits there and laughs while his enemies are tearing themselves apart.

Is it possible that Maedhros maybe more tragic then Turin because he tried to be honorable and friendly with the people of Middle Earth and tried calming his brothers but the Oath he took always took that opportunity from him and in end he ended up committing mass murder and losing everything for nothing. That is pretty tragic because he lived for hundreds of years.

I really wish there was more on Dior, son of Luthien and Beren, heir of Thingol, father of Elwing, second and last King of Doriath, who represented the Ainur and Eldar and Humankind and wore the Silmaril

Does anyone think that Melian (which means "Beloved" as Thingol named her) and Thingol were reunited after she returned to Valinor? I hope so. Hopefully Mandos let him out of his halls, eventually, and he was able to be with Melian again.

I'm still trying to figure out how Tolkien was able to weave this timeline together. It seems so complicated. Extremely captivating, though.

Sons of Feanor get real courageous when an Elf has a Silmaril, a little less Oath focused when Morgoth has it

I've always head people tell me LOTR was Tolkien's only great work, only true aficionados know the Silmarillion is arguably better. The Children of Hurin, The Lay of Beren and Luthien, and the entire Quenta Silmarillion is a true masterpiece. A war doomed from the beginning, fought against insurmountable odds and against an unbeatable foe.

What I love about Tolkien is that just when you think you know all the lore, you come across a cool detail or something you forgot in a corner of his world. It makes everything feel so real. Great video!

“Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have past like rain on the mountains. Like wind in the meadow. The days have come down in the west. Behind the hills, into shadow........how did it come to this?”

As a admittedly biased dwarf guy, you know what always struck me in this story? Naugladur, king of the Dwarves of Nogrod. Despite being very minor in the overall Silmarillion as a whole, he even gets to be a tragic character by being led astray into invading Doriath out of blind trust in what his Dwarves said to him, then annihilates Doriath, kills the mighty Mablung,

I first got into Tolkien in the late 1970s. You're doing Eru's work here. Keep it up.

Morgoth's Curse is high Hellenistic tragedy at it's best. Thank you for the summary!
