The desert is full of mystery... and history! Abandoned buildings and old highways, plus some radical Route 66 museums! The only way out is through it, so its time for another Randomland Adventure!

I'm so glad you included some rail history. I'm a huge railfan, and I appreciate you doing so. The rail yard you were at is called Bartstow yard, the biggest of the Santa Fe railroad's yards for its time. Thank you, and I sincerely hope you read this comment.

I wish they could open up the parts that are private or restricted or repave the dirt parts because I would really love to take a road that millions of people have gone on in the old days, I like seeing history lol

Interesting/informative/entertaining. All the numerous times I’ve traveled the wonders of the “ Mother Road “. These videos bring back memories of what I remember seeing. Along with the sites that I haven’t seen. Thanks to all whom put time & effort into making these film 🎥 clips. For future generations to experience & enjoy 😉.

Dude. My parents moved to Victorville in 1963 I was 3 months old. Every year we drove to Oklahoma city for summer vacation so I can't count all the times we drove the old road but I really hated when they built the 40. No more cool stuff like Stuckeys , Grand Canyon Caverns, Petrified Forest or the old school Terrible Herbts Thanks I love this stuff

We drove Route 66 in 2016 from Chicago to California so it's really interesting to see it the opposite way and to discover so many things we didn't see on our trip. It was the most amazing trip we've had so far and I love reliving it - so many interesting tidbits of history too!

2:38 - The canvas water bags did several things. First, they carried extra water, but you could have done that with a barrel or bottles. Second, they sweat, and by doing so, they cooled the air slightly. And the sweat dripped on the radiator so that the evaporating water on the cooling fins provided extra cooling. Third, you had to be careful how you hung them or you'd block the airflow to the radiator, like the one on the truck, and then they would overheat faster. 11:38 - You stopped at the Daggett citrus inspection but ignored the airfield. During World War II the airfield was used by the United States Army Air Force Fourth Air Force. The base was constructed by the Douglas Aircraft Company to modify the A-20 "Havoc" light bombers sent to the USSR under the Lend Lease program. The base was also used to train P-38 fighter aircraft in gunnery and using the new rockets fitted under the P-38s' wings. 18:20 - Too much rain in 2017 and no rain in 2022. Climate change sure happens fast. So no trip down Route 66, see where Bagdad used to be (surprised it is all gone on Google Street View per 2008) and you don't see the LCpl Jason Rother memorial.

My grandfather (I'm in my 6th decade) would tell me stories of fleeing the dust bowl. They would strap the water sacks to the outside of the car doors and have extras to cover all doors because they cooled the inside cabin by a great amount.

My Grandpa was stationed out in Victorville back in the day. He and my grandma worked at a retirement home/retreat for old celebrities (Rancho Yucca Loma). They had my first Aunt out there, named her after Gwen Behr and one of the old celebrities knitted her a layette. Anyhoo, I've never been to Victorville and probably will never get to visit so it's cool seeing a piece of it here! My grampy died when I was young so it's cool getting to see where he once lived and maybe where he once drove!

Well done. You hit the term exactly " hills have eyes-ish". I went Ft Irwin/NTC few years back and part of the old route runs right through it. The instructor I worked with encouraged us to go grab a piece of history by taking a small piece of concrete back. Of course small rock size. Keep up the good work!

Hey, finally got into Victoriaville museum! Love that train station in Barstow. Isn't that your " favourite" bridge? I love it when there's nobody in front and nobody in the mirror...peaceful driving. Weird how the older bridges across the Colorado are the nicer looking ones, not used for traffic anymore. Bye, bye, California!

29:00 Justin...what does the Colorado River look like from that same point now? I know you've had ridiculous flooding along the coast but how far inland has that precipitation spread? All the way to the AZ border? I'd enjoy you doing a few videos about how destinations for travellers can be altered due to climate change. What about the Oasis spot with the koi fish? Of course you can't cover everywhere all the time but the areas near you could be done and then when you travel it can be something included in your awesome coverage of travel destinations. I and my family love ya, man!

6:50! Wow! I never knew that even existed! It's so pretty! 10:30 That's a smart way to do it, but I agree with the one big museum, too! 16:16 You know, seeing absolutely no cars on the road makes me feel like that is my ideal road-trip considering my driving anxiety pahah. 16:38 um... forget I said anything about ideal road-trips hahah. 18:40 : Nope! Pigeons are well known for their long distance travels! people used pigeons to send messages in the world-war years. There's a whole documentary about them, they're quite fascinating! Rats with rings is an interesting perspective hahaha. 25:30 It's absolutely serene there! I'm not a big fan of deserts, but there is still some kind aesthetic pleasure. Needles...such a quirky but lovable name for a city! And the welcome wagon sign definitely confirms that lovableness haha. Great spot for a funpic! We'll be looking forward to the next bit! Drive safe!
