This should go without saying, but I said it in this episode and I will say it again: Do not harass or threaten anyone from the Rules Committee or anyone else online! That is never acceptable no matter the circumstance. Constructive Criticism is always welcome, but never harassment.

Seriously. Anyone who can't cope without their precious Lotuses, or crypts, or goblins is probably pretty trash at the game. Like, learn how to adapt. Don't just copy/pasta the same deck and cry because it doesn't work anymore. Be original. I mean, eye-for-an-eye here, but when you're threatening someone over cards, an insult is the least of your worries.

@@Havok91 I agree, it just shows that they don't want to be creative and think outside the box and coming up with something new that doesn't require a Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, and Dockside Extortionist. I am planning on building a Valgavoth, Terror Eater Lifegain deck and I know it costs 9 mana to cast it but, I know I can find away to get him out which is called Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers, and maybe some cost reducers or something. Great video, but I don't really agree with your assessment of the watch list. Like the RC tried to explain I their own way. I personally feel that it would be a source of greif for the players hoping that the watch list status is acted upon just as much the players wouldn't want to risk investing in a card on the list and thus avoid the card. They might feel robbed from using the cards when they're not banned. It would thus potentially create even more conflict rather than be useful for the community. I see the aspect of the investment and equity being a source that might call for a buyer beware notice, but like you said yourself cardboard shouldn't be regarded as an investment in the first place. ergo it shouldn't be considered when someone buys into a possibly problematic card. K would also really push the fact that the RC isn't official, it's community driven and the banlist isn't absolute. It's more like a suggested baseline "rule zero" that most of us can agree with. If we wouldn't agree with it we wouldn't hold true to their banlist. I feel like the players being angry about the bans are the ones affected by it. Most of us are fine with it but we don't care enough to make us self heard about it.

I can see and understand emergency and immediate bans for cards that have been in the format for less than 6 months that have warped the game play. Cards that have been reprinted recently and/or have been legal for multiple years should get an advanced warning. In the case of Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, and Dockside, the rules committee could have said that they will be banned effective 9/1/2025. This gives people time to play with them or sell them if before they effectively become worthless. Think of how powerful standard cards keep their value until the rotation date nears and they slowly start decreasing. As far as advanced notifications hurting casual players because they are not in the know, those casual players likely don't care about the Rules Committee and are going to keep playing those cards casually.
@someguy1ification
@someguy1ification День назад
... But then the prices tank when the "advance warning" is given instead lol People aren't going to wait for what they know is imminent. Edit: you mention standard and how there is a slow dropoff as cards are close to rotating. There is a major difference between Standard and edh: Standard has tournaments with prizes right up until the rotation happens. People can get returns on those investments, even if they are close to rotation. They just get fewer chances at them, and the price dropoff reflects this. There are no such returns on edh.

@adammcalister8713 День назад
@@someguy1ification An advanced notice would also help local game stores. @adammcalister8713
@adammcalister8713 День назад
@@Martin-qb2mw I never said full price. One of the main reasons a cards value drops after a ban is because suddenly the supply goes way up as everyone floods the market at the same time. If a ban is planned a year out, a decent amount of cards may still hit the market the next day, but some players will keep their copies and keep on playing. A $100 card pre-ban can drop 70-90% overnight. A card that has a known ban coming in 1 year would likely slowly drop. I have seen this happen in the non-TCG space. Around 2005 softball bat manufactures were pushing technology to its limits and creating bats that practically anyone could hit a home run with. Players loved it, but it started causing player safety issues as the balls were coming off the bats so fast that infielders started getting hurt and is some very rare cases being killed. The associations put new regulations in for the manufactures to limit how fast a ball could come off the bat. In order to address the bats already out there, the associations announced that they would be banning all of the bats that exceeded the new regulations. The ban wouldn't go into affect until January 1st of the following year (ended up being about 1 year and 4 months). They recognized that players had been spending $300+ (retail) on bats and didnt want players to not be able to use the equipment they bought. Over the next year players still swung those bats in games and continued to buy and trade them on the secondary market. Prices were down slightly with players knowing they would be banned, but it was normal to pay $200 on a used bat. This wasn't just the Top players playing tournaments everyone weekend for cash prizes, it was the folks in church league's playing for a t-shirt at the end of the season. Once the official ban date came and went, these bats wouldn't be seen in the top levels anymore, but were still seen in backyard games and unsanctioned leagues that were for casual play. The prices bottomed out at $100-150, but people still bought and traded for them.

The first thing it did when it came back was ban cards used to sell entire sets, and not just that - but among the least problematic targets of the higher tiers. Unlike Yu-Gi-Oh, these bans don't just magically get reverted. Many cards on the edh han list have been on for eternity since their decision - as edh is meant to be the "eternal" format. Imagine the whole situation with baronne de fleur and the other anny collection staples except worse because each staple they banned was as rare as Bonfire. From a gameplay standpoint this was a good change, lets get that outta the way Now lets take a moment to consider how slimy this is. 2 of the 3 collector boosters coming with fiab have all their value tied up in mana crypt for one, and jeweled lotus for the other Aw shucks aint that too bad, just happened to happen i guess. Not like the rules comittee talks to wizards a year in advance to bans, and wizard knew this was coming when they decided to unload product only they knew was dead at full value as part of a secret lair drop Squeeze a few more drops of money out of their community I should also say i didnt order a featival in a box, ive never ordered a secret lair. But it should be clear to everyone what a slimy move that is By wizards i suppose the rc is off the hook on that. Although its my opinion that these bans impact casual not at all. High power a fair bit and positively, and cedh a ton, and it remains to be scene in what way I think positively but only if they ban rogsi, or rog specifically Either way though, in casual which is what they say they ban for i have never had an issue with these cards. They havr hardly ever shown up in those games and the few times they did it wasnt a feel bad for us, it was a feel bad for who played them after they got bullied for being a pubstomper for 15 minutes Now again, i am glad theyre out of commander overall, i even think this could with a few morw changes lead to some positive changes to cedh But the rc is a joke. They handled this awfully, they gave wizards advanced warning which they used to unload dead product at percieved full price And this wasnt a ban that adheres to what they claim their "philosophy" is. The fact is they have no philosophy. This ban impacts nothing in casual. Does impact highpower. And impacts cedh in a huge way, but if they did this to make that format better they i think need to ban rograk alongside these otherwise this could make that format worse. Well see but thats what im thinking We need a rc that actually knows what theyre doing. I dont advocate harassment but criticism is nit harassment

But there are a ton of normal people (statistically way more than the number of finance geeks) who saved for these, traded for these, were given them as gifts because they'd been there for years and seemed like safe includes due to the power of various local meta games. Now vault, oracle, breach, chrome mox and the like will become those cards. People will save up for them, trade for them, etc. And yeah, some people will buy fifty copies of each for 'value.' But it feels like those of us just trying to play the game with cool shit that they made for us to, you know, play the game with, got bent over. Someone somewhere said, I never elected the Commander RC, who are they to tell me I can't play with the cards I've bought. So I can see a new Commander format being created with the expectation of powerful decks and combos existing, where the RC bans do not apply... What will the name of the new commander format with no bans be called? Commander Unlimited? Vintage Commander? Free Commander? ...
@Martin-qb2mw

You elected the commander RC and their banlist by opting to play commander. you can create a new format with any banlist you want any time you want. but you elected the play the format that was curated by the RC and that was your own decision. no one forced you to do it.

You are looking at this from a very.......nieve point of view. Like, this is some group of people solely concerned with a balanced and fair game environment. As if there were no monetary considerations at play. It is no coincidence that these cards (dockside, crypt, and lotus) have been the primary drivers of their last few premium sets. With huge price tags. I would be willing to bet that WOTC has similar/analogous cards lined up along with whichever cards already out there (like mana vault that see a huge spike in demand because of this ban) in an upcoming premium set. This is blatant manipulation and Hasbro/WOTC spitting in our faces and saying "you're going to take it, and like it bitch" I for one, have had enough. I will be selling my collection and not buying anything more from this company. They have ruined this game over the last 5-6 years, and I don't see it getting better. If you all have any integrity, you'll do the same

What about them admitting they coordinated over the past year with WOTC about the bans allowing WOTC to dump product containing these cards? Sounds like insider trading doesn’t it?

I honestly hope they enjoy every bit of the backlash. They deserve every ounce of it and more. I do not believe that they kept their cards. These people made a direct attack on competitive and should pay the cost.

Create 2 different formats then. Casual (lots of bans) & cEDH (basically no bans)

There was an estimated of 127 million dollars of losses since these have been banned. So having WOTC wanting to squeeze money out of players before a banning shouldn't be called a conspiracy. It should be a warning to you all that they will squeeze you for every penny and then print something new for you to buy.

So you shouldn´t do that, but how did they expect to not be threatend here? They destroyed in one go if you just look at the decks on edhrec (and thats by far not all) north of 25 Million $! in money of players. A lot of them are not showered in free product like several content producers in the RC by wizards. Some of this people save months for some of this things. You can´t just cause that amount of damage , and lets not talk about the douzens if not hundreds of local shops taking damage from this that could endanger their likleyhood and affect the ability of people to feed their children, and expect people to be happy about it. This is not 5000 people being unable to play their deck. This is the value of a seizable company wiped of the earth... Magic should not be an investment is a fuzzy argument here, LGS are what keeps the game alive and LGS are people earning their living selling those cards. Half the RC keeps promoting buy at your local gamestore in their shows... So they gonna refund their loses? Most LGS are not very high margin enterprises .... And that comes from someone that agrees on all this bans from a power perspective besides maybe jeweled lotus and thinks sol ring and one ring should have been axed as well if you really want to be serious to get the effect they stated.

I didn’t vote in favor of a rules committee. I don’t want a rules committee. Casual games don’t need a rules committee. Only competitive formats need a rules committee. A competitive format did not need these bannings. These random people should not have this power. Period.

Cool. Make your own format and play with whatever rules you want. EDH has a rules committee and they make the rules for EDH if you don't like it play something else.

Not sure how you ban chase cards and justify increasing prices on the products you sell. They price there products based on the value of the cards in the set. I think this tarnishes there brand even more than it is. Why would anyone buy a collectors box/pack anymore? People should just ignore the bans. Proxy expensive cards. I could go on... thanks.

My takeaway from this: Bans are not worth the impact it has on the players who bought these cards, and since banning is the only tool the RC has in its toolkit, the RC shouldn't exist.

People who destroy / throw away these banned cards are overreacting MORE than the people who made angry threats 😂🙄

I mean they just cost the mtg community about 45 million dollars while I do not condone people's threats apon them, it was a predictable outcome for them doing this all at once and they should've protection set up for them selfs before hand.

I would trust the RC more if they rolled back some or all of the bans in light of player input. If players speak out enough, why not let the community get their say?

We all got taken advantage by wizard of the coast they were aware , they recently reprint them on purpose in very expensive pretty arts before the ban they totally worked together and they totally give price to set just because of the cards that were going to be ban .
