I served in the UAE with a small Navy Reserve unit that was basically left unattended and with very little support in 2002. My CO was a reservist. He wasn't well liked within the unit but he gave us clear, definitive rules of engagement that I clung to. I was just a POG so I absolutely needed clear rules to operate by.
Listening to Jocko's conversations in the different podcasts he maintains is enlightening. While I don't agree with everything he and/or his guests speak about it is not gibberish coming out of their mouths. Even to the point of him poking at Echo during the podcasts. EchoCharles blasts back with the finesse of a big cat stalking its pray. I enjoy seeing the video of what I listen to during the day and evening in black n white. It keeps it in the context of the conversation. Jocko Podcast, Jocko Underground, Jocko Unravelling. They are all worth your time (& monies for the underground).
It’s interesting that basic philosophy passes by the common individual. Teaching the fundamentals of philosophy to help shape the mindset to think as a workshop in downtime could very much help to make such decisions during times of action.

I spent 8 years in the 82nd 1st/504th as an 11B and than 5 years as a designated defensive marksman with Triple Canopy. By no means was I a Tier 1 operator but I’ve had some lively deployments. That being said, almost 7 years since the last time I was actually involved in a gun fight I still struggle to “belong” in the civilian world. The only job that I’ve found to be a good fit is where I currently work, as a rifle instructor for a relatively well known company founded by SF guys.

If you have anyone in your force that you do have to explain not to shoot an innocent person, you just found whom to shoot. Since the Weapon-SS and their actions in second world war changing war doctrines to a level that even uniformed combatants can be declared, based on their own actions, to an illegit combatant force that has no POW rights, it would be legal to shoot this person in times of war pro-actively. But I give you, that there has not been a trial on such a case yet. They are usually declared as fallen in action by men that will reject an order, if this order was against the war and rules of law, which is their legal duty, because of the lesions learned from the actions of the Weapon-SS.
