A supreme display of BMX freestyle park acrobatics saw Sun Sibei land first place in the women's competition at the Olympic Qualifier Series Shanghai on Saturday (18 May).
"This is the biggest final in the sport's history," announced the arena MC ahead of the competition to a capacity crowd at the sun-drenched Huangpu Riverside OQS Urban Park.
Picking up where she left off after dominating qualification, People's Republic of China's Sun performed a full backward flip on her first run to set an impressive tone.
Every trick was performed with precision and was met with roars of appreciation from the Chinese flag-waving home fans. A best score of 95.86 on the second run reflected her near-perfect performance.
In a repeat of yesterday's qualification, Sun's compatriots, Sun Jiaqi and Deng Yawen, secured second and third respectively to send the home fans into raptures.
Afterward in the victory ceremony all three athletes received a trophy featuring four columns that represent the four sports included in the series, with an abstract skyline and wave shapes symbolising Shanghai.
