The Runaways kicked wide open the gates for generations of all-girls rock n roll bands; but the most impressive is how radical they are in fit all the needs: they are the FIRST, the BEST, the BIGGER, the YOUNGER, the most BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, CUTTEST and the most TRAGIC. This finished any discussions. Perfect. A band made by God!
Been a runaway fan since 83 got all the records in a few bootlegs and some DVDs met everybody in theband except for Joan Jett if only I could meet her I'd be very happy
That's a RUNAWAYS MASTERPIECE!... Lyrics, music, melody... everything is perfect, as usual in that divine band, but this time, better than ever. Jackie's bass LEADS the music, giving UNITY by HARMONY. Lita and Joan fight in a duel of guitars. Sandy keep the "heartbeat" on her drums beating. And tragic Cherie explodes in passion, telling the stars drama. The girls were specially inspired.
you can't deny their influence on music day...sure they got their attention because they were women, but if they sucked as some people day they did, why are we still here watching their videos and commenting about them...they rocked!!!
The Runaways made the Most Complete Rock n Roll Song EVER: "All Right You Guys" is THE definitive Classical Rock n Roll Theme, even more than "Jail House Rock", "Whole Lotta Shaking Going On", "Satisfaction", "Anarchy in the UK" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The Runaways --- Best Band Ever!
Jackie Fox is the Best Runaway --- the most human, fragile, vulnerable and lovely. Ah, Jackie... you're sooooooooo sweet... delicious! The prettiest. The nicest. The most talented. The most human. I love you, Jackie. My Goddess.
Now that Fowley is worm food... When will all this trashed film footage be cleaned up and released? Who owns all this amazing Japanese footage? This is historic stuff!! I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
The GoGo's also had a much harder time. Belinda and the gang were living almost on the street except for their commune house they and some others lived in. The very first year, the Runaways had a limo taking them to gigs, and I mean in the United States, but no other group earned a limo until they were solidly earning sales.
Song was also recorded by Venus and the Razorblades, produced by Kim Fowley, around the same time. Was supposedly written by Venus' bassist, Danielle Faye, and her boyfriend who was in the legendary "Zippers". Venus and the Razorblades used this as their opening song. I'm curious how the Runaways picked it up.
BEST FEMALE SINGERS: Cherie Currie. Tina Turner. Johnette Napolitano. Ann Wilson. Annie Lennox. Chrissie Hynde. Suzi Quatro. Donita Sparks. Marie Friedriksson. Suzi Gardner. Cass Elliott. Grace Slick. Irene Cara. Kim Carnes. Linda Lewis. Kate Bush.
@RosaXX11 ..was just thinking about this point. I finally hung out and got accepted in the all-girl band scene in LA during the mid-eighties, because it was really hard during the late seventies. The Runaways was not a band that you just "hung" with. They were incredibly serious about their career and future. They were "signed" then, which was amazing, supported Cheap Trick and the Tubes, both of which were on the radio, and played with trucks full of equipment. A different world then.
Eszpresszo's comment up top made me realize they never recorded this song on a studio album. Must have only done it as a live cover. Fowley probably suggested they play it since it came from one of his bands.
There are many ladies which rock well and hard, example Avril Lavigne, Sherly Crow and others, but if they wnt to imrpove, they should to learn from this real rock n' roll queens.
The Runaways were lucky. they had a nice rehersal facility at SIR in Hollywood, no expense for equipment, a number one songwriter (Kim Fowley), an advance plus instant record deal. None of this happened to any girl group who followed. They had a much harder time.
Yes. Cherie is 'the lost daughter of David Bowie and Brigitte Bardot'. GODDESS of the Goddesses. ANY Runaways song is TONS heavier, powerful and better than ALL the today's 'music' productions. Fuck off 'new rock'. I have enough. I have the best. I have The Runaways. ALL RIGHT, GUYS!!!
@anaisboss96 she used to do tht cuz thts wat david bowie does in his concert n she use 2 b obseesed wit him...thts y she cut her hair like tht,to match his
@unlikeanyotherhuman Actually there are, but they're not all females except Chicks on Speed {Germany}. I recommend you, The Sounds! They're from Sweden. ;>D
The GoGo's; they would never sing a song like "Cherry Bomb" and mean every word of it, and the Runaways would never sing "Vacation". The Runaways time didn't come for them in America because people weren't ready to hear the lyrics of "Cherry Bomb" coming from 16 year old girls, and maybe even now it is still true. This may be why the Bangles and GoGo's broke into the charts. Now are there many MALE groups with the Runaways sound were there? Lots, but this shows how repressed Americans are.
VanishaVampire6 i don't think 100% of the young people listen to crap music (as i like to call it) because i am 17 years old and i can't get enough of the Runaways and other rock bands alike okay i may not know all the subgenres of music but i do know differences between genres
