THE RUNAWAYS "Waitin' For The Night" 1977 *(Promo Video) Joan Jett - Guitar / Vocals Lita Ford - Lead Guitar Sandy West - Drums Vicki Blue - Bass ..... Video Editing & Audio Restoration by Tuscadero ..........
I love Joan's vocals here. Even when the song picks up there's a...tenderness might not be the right word...but very good. About as good as I've ever heard her.
I moved to Los AngeLes in the summer of 74 and the scene was wide open . . .Rock n RoLL , MotoCross , SkateBoarding , BMX , backyard keg parties , Westwood viLLage movies and dinners , Van Nuys Cruising nights , RoLLerRinks ,HoLLywood fun , and aLL the beaches . . . The Runaways were Going For it !
Im 52, am a life long lover of Rock music and tonight was the first time I've ever heard these guys! They were awesome! I recognized Joanne Jett right away, but I about dropped dead when I found out that the lead guitarist was Lita Ford!
Congrats. Now you know that Joan and Lita were basically born with talent. Unfortunate that The Runaways weren't taken seriously and got so screwed over back then.
Unpopular thought, listening to that song gives me a nostalgic vibe about an era I didn't even know lol! ( I'm 19years old ) oh I wish I could have been a teen in the late 70s and witness these amazing girls playing live! To all the people that saw them perform live, and that were teens back in what seems to be the golden days, you are the luckiest persons in the world, Cheers!
I have thanked God many times for letting me be a teenager in the Seventies. Concerts with great warm up bands for sometimes less than $5. We smoked every thing in the Venues. No metal detectors and no purse searches and very few cops. Never any violence because we all were rockers and that was a tight bond. No cell phones and we used lighters for Encores. Great shows coming to town every week. I paid for my tickets from my Afternoon Paper Route. I miss those days for sure.
Wow, as a metal head I’m blown away by the talent a beauty on that stage. I’m almost brought to tears on how beautiful this song is. Wonder who wrote it? I think the band was better with Joan up front.
Ive always had a fasination with this band they were truly something special and so freaking talented its a shame they didnt have better management that would look after them properly
great song please check out The Runaways Debut Album Review , Runaways - Queens of Noise , and Runaways - Waitin`for the Night Album Reviews on my channel
This track always takes me back to this time and was lucky enough to see this tour when they opened for The Ramones, too bad this album never took off because after this it was over unfortunately.

Teens make rock n roll, every generation makes it happen. If not, then something’s wrong. I was a teen in the'70's. We made it happen. We weren’t the first, we weren’t the last. If it’s not happening now, then make it happen! Get out there and make some noise! It’s your turn!
Love this song....wish I still had my albums...lost them all...sometimes I want to cry when I think about all the cool lp's I used to own and how f'd up it feels when someone you took care of took care of you and make sure you lost all your stuff everything you owned because they couldn't get off dope or manage anything but their own selfish habits... but that's the past moving forward anyone out there got any LP's from back in the day they want to give me LOL I'd happily take them off your hands...just sayin
Wish I’d known more about Joan n the Runaways other than cherry bomb when it hit the air all those years ago. I love R n R came along...really liked it. Then Fake Friends with all the sycophants, making romance to the ugly sound of 'em tellin Joan what they thought she wanted to hear and her having to pretend. That’s when I finally took real notice of her, stating the irony of the crap she was dealing with, yet being the strong realist that she was, still having enough of a sense of humor to write such a great song and hilarious video, flashing her trademark yoink of a wink as if to say: fuck off you jackasses;) I’ve loved her ever since...
Thank God for RU-vid, & more importantly for you uploading this. Was my go to song getting dressed before i went out on a Friday night. So many memories. Cheers buckaroo.
Great song from a fine album, that at the time implied The Runaways were settling into a punk-orientated direction, albeit with metal influences. To be honest, the lyrics are a weakness (as they sometimes are on Runaways songs), and so they don't fully complement the moood of the song.
It's definitely from analogue video tape, the tracking's not quite right which is the tell tale there, and was quite likely a recording of something broadcast on TV at the time. Given the era, that was the early days of home video recording so would've been Beta, VHS or even Video2000 back then. So an analogue recording of an analogue broadcast that would've sat around several decades slowly degrading before being uploaded to RU-vid.
