@@borgri5871 That's debatable. According to genetic studies, Rurikids were Wends, who came from North Poland near Baltic sea (Ost sea for Germans). But it does not change fact, that they were Slavic vikings who raided Dniepr.

@@Markov092 if your theory is true, then their viking roots might just have been for legitimacy reasons in the throne as the Scandinavians were the Northern power at the time.

@@maestromars8487 It is one of few theories taking in mind genetic studies of Rurikids. Name "Rus" itself has many theories, pro-Normanists state, that Rus comes from Scandinavian Roslagen. Slavic theorists state again, that Rus comes from proto-Slavic description of region Slavs lived - "place on river" or "place on wetlands". Less believable (but also makes sense) theory states, that word Rus comes from Vedic Sanskrit language (as Slavs are one of nomadic Indo-Europeans who migrated from South Urals, North Hindustan regions).
