When you look at the Forbes Billionaires list, almost all the men you see made their money in tech: Jeff Bezos with Amazon, Elon with Tesla, Gates with Microsoft, Zuckerberg with Facebook, Ellison with Oracle, and Page and Brin with Google and then you have a man named Bernard Arnault, at #2 with around $170 billion dollars, trailing right behind Jeff Bezos and in front of Elon Musk, and often trading places with them.
Bernard made his billions in the world of luxury: everything from fashion, leather goods, jewelry, and high-end spirits. He’s the man behind the parent company that owns some of the biggest names in luxury: Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine, Hennessy, Tiffany & Co, Tag Heuer, Hublot, Sephora, and many more.
The world is ran by smart people. If you look at the totem pole of society, it’s just smart people on top of smart people trying to convince other people to do what they want them to do. When you’re poor, you are owned by smart people: like your boss. But then, some people are able to make it out of that poor phase into the freedom phase where you’re making around $100k a year or more on your own. At this point, smart people can no longer get at you - but they still really want to because we're naturally power hungry creatures. So in order for smart people to convince successful people to do what they want them to do, you have to lure them in with something else. And that something else is luxury goods.
Bernard grew up as the son of a father that owned a manufacturing/civil engineering company in France. According to Bernard, his mom made two major contributions to his life: one, she made him take piano lessons and two, she had a fascination with the perfume and fashion brand Christian Dior. His father was the one that really gave him a sense of business, and by age 25, he took over the reigns of his dad’s company, with the ambitions to start his own empire.

Kind of an odd way to look at it, considering the parents or grandparents likely didn't begin as wealthy business owners, themselves. All it actually does is give an individual a bit of a "head start" - assuming they use their lot in life intelligently. Most family wealth is gone within 3 generations. The ones that keep the wealth and/or increase it over time are often the families that are involved on some lucrative field and perpetuate perfectionism and a ridiculous work ethic among themselves. ...Also, the top 1% aren't the same people. They change every decade as they are replaced with the next uber-successful business/entrepreneur.

He’s good and ruthless indeed, and runs a business where people approve of those « survival of the fittest » lifestyle, but it’s luck that catapulted him where he was, he would just be a shop owner otherwise. Plus, the growth of LVMH in the last 30 years came from, oh yeah, China. What a great timing. I prefer Elon Musk.

@@j4genius961 Well to be fair, it's true that he inherited his dad medium size construction compagny when he was yong. But to say that he doesn't deserve credit while he entered a completly foreign buissness and make it one the biggest compagny on the planet is not fair for me. For context there is currently arrond 50 milions milionnaire on earth while there is only arrond 3000 bilionnaires. To rise from this first category to the second in one generation is still quite impressive. I mean Mark Zuckerberg who start from zero for exemple is more impressive but still, it's pretty impressive. As for the argument "screwing thousand/milions of people" I don't really understand, he is selling luxury good. People can live without it, nobody has been force to do a purchase. If he had srewed anyone it sould be other executive but that's how it works in buisness so I won't cry for them. But to be clear I think even if his career is impressive I think the bilionaires should be taxed a lot more because it's not normal for single human being to focus this much weath.

There's no paper , only bank statements. . Nothing is as it seems if we do not know much better about it especially finance .the money creation process. Is actually when commercial banks give loans . We tend to think banks live off interest payments by loan takers ,in actual banks create money out of thin air ,by a process known as FRACTIONAL RESERVE SYSTEM FRS ,and moreover charge interest on it. They actually need to just tap on keyboard to increase the bank statement when they give out loan. Currencies only account for less than 3 % of the economy. People need to accept that a game is being played in regards to being successful. The average individual is playing at a fairly low level and similar to education, the higher you go, the higher the price. Once you accept that its a game you can determine how much you are willing to pay to play at the level you desire. Once there, you buy the luxury items, not for yourself entirely, but partially for others who value them more than you do. Great video, thank you!

I disagree with you on this one. Many “luxury goods” actually provide more than just the shiny image. Supercars tend to be an achievement of technology and ingenuity, watches (some I may say) are more than just about adding diamonds on top of gold, there’s traditional craftsmanship and innovation in the technology, materials and production behind it. There are arbitrary luxury goods, sure, like a leather purse that really adds nothing and will just disintegrate over time. If you take luxury goods under the scope of “they’re only worth something because people are willing to pay to show them off”, then yes, they’re worthless. But many luxury goods are more than just the bling, and high-value luxury goods like mansions and yachts can be leveraged financially, so they can be a smart way of managing your money. As to whether they are essential to your life, of course not. But that doesn’t make them worthless.

An investor will haggle over the price of real estate, but not over the price of Hennessy at a 5-Star restaurant. They may haggle over the price of a collectable car or a custom yacht, but not over the cost of haute couture for their young arm-candy second wife. Etc.. Interesting strategy.
