In case you weren't aware I organised the whole gig, I called every person and asked them if they would play. I organised the venue and managed the night itself single handed. I got some professional camera men to film it and then spent 6 months getting the DVD together and organising the launch of that. I personally deal with sending those out too. I did all of this for nothing, simply to help get some money for Paul before he died and for charity too.

Henry is at his absolute best here. You can just tell this was one of the greatest moments of his life. The ruts are the perfect band for him to play with. It’s like he was waiting his whole life for this show.

Paul was such an accomplished rock guitarist, it is a travesty that he is not recognised as one of the greatest. bless his soul, he was obviously 100% alive at this show, even though he was facing a time limit, he was an inspiration.

When you listen to Henry talk about this gig, the absolute awe in which he holds these guys is obvious. I think he did an amazing job of helping Paul get the night he deserved. Rollins can be a little unhinged at times, but my god does he love music. Massive respect to all concerned.

My listening works like a filter. I let in evaluate and then throw off. I don’t just listen around. So I found them through Henry Rollins too. I like it because they’re a punk band and weren’t ashamed if the playing was with talent also.

Foxy was the sh•te. Powerful punk chords like his life depended on it and he also used reggae effects like reverb and delay on his punk chords, the first. How noble of Henry Rollins to stand in for Malcolm Owen, and a worthy one, because he's the Ruts number one fan. A landmark moment in rock music.

Saw The Ruts back in the day. '79 I think. Eric's, Liverpool, Saturday afternoon under 18's matinee show. What can I say? They were so much better than I expected. My first gig. The best and loudest gig I ever attended. The support band couldn't play due to some kind of tech problem and maybe I benefited and The Ruts tried to make up the difference with their set. Got home with my hair set with spit. A real punk you might say. I always thought that The Ruts could have taken up the mantle of The Clash and they were certainly an antidote to the right wing neo Nazis that were ruining punk at the time.

Thing is even though you got into the ruts due to rollins you probably heard the other members work elsewhere the bass player had a second wind to his career when he joined Alabama 3 (sopranos theme), and the drummer is a well known producer who has produced many post punk, rock and pop acts.

I seem to end up watching this about once a week. The Ruts were well on form, Foxy's killer guitar, Rollins' intensity and integrity brought their sound bang up to date. R.I.P. Paul and Malcom.

Come here from Henry talking about this gig. I was moved to tears by how much this meant to him, he was the same star struck kid he was at 20 around these guys and that's really endearing. Plus the beautiful outpouring of love and respect for Paul is so heartening to watch, few people get self actualising moments that potent

GodDAYUM. I've seen Henry front a lot of different shows in a lot of different states of being, but this has to be the most effervescent I've ever seen. He must have been transported to 100 times of his life all at once, while remembering where he was at that very moment and what it meant. Sometimes you can't quite see joy and power in the same place at the same time, but there is an infinite amount here. It turned out that I had definitely loved some Ruts music, but I had played it from a cassette with no label, so I never knew what the name of the band was. Henry went on about the "four gray-haired men", but I would have to say, they were operating outside of the pull of time on this one. Bands who have had ten times as many albums and ten times ten live performances couldn't look as geared in as these players. I'm never going to forget this now.

Rollins did a wonderful talk about his love of The Ruts, and how this whole project came together. The fact that as a young teen Rollins found "In a Rut" in a singles bin to singng the song with them on stage must have been so real.

I really love the passion Rollins put in his performance. After all, he sang for one of the key American punk bands but, still, he's very humble when he relates himself to bands like the Ruts, UK Subs, or the Damned (if you have not done it yet, check out his spoken word show about this night, it's on RU-vid). The Ruts were a truly fantastic band. RiP Paul Fox, this was an amazing night for you and for us,

I saw the Ruts just once in 1979 with Malcolm Owen. Quite a lot of younger Ruts fans I know are jealous of me for this reason. Seen Ruts DC/Foxy's Ruts quite a few times, but they never recovered from that loss. I remember when Owen died, and I was at a Damned gig at Birmingham Top Rank. They dedicated the set to him. Recently, the Ruts DC blew everyone off the stage at North East Calling, with their coverage of The Crack album in full. Plus ending with In A Rut. Rollins does a good job here though. Well done that man.

Almost unbearably sad to watch but at the same time incredibly powerful. From the start the Ruts were a band on the edge with more emotional power than any other punk bands, for me anyway. In a Rut possibly saved my life then and it still is the song that tells me to stop feeling sorry for myself and get on with it. I can only hope that I can be brave as Paul F when it is my turn.

On 16 July 2007, the band reformed for the first time in 27 years, and played a benefit gig for Fox, following his diagnosis as having lung cancer. Henry Rollins stood in for Owen. They were supported by Tom Robinson, The Damned, Misty in Roots, UK Subs, Splodge (Splodgenessabounds), John Otway; and the Peafish House Band which featured Lee Harris, (The Blockheads), Tony Barber (Buzzcocks) and Rowland Rivron, plus Edward Tudor-Pole and T. V. Smith.[citation needed] Fox died on 21 October of the same year, at the age of 56.
