This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for! The John Deere S680 finally gets finished up in this video by getting the unload augers and feed accelerator bearings replaced. Stick around till the end so you can see this bad boy run! Yes, this is the combine that I hauled out of the field and did all the hydraulic repairs on. Once that was done and the combine would move, I inspected the rest of the machine and repaired everything it needed to be field ready. This is the last video on this combine and it’s ready to go home.

Hey Seth, another great video. Well, many weeks ago when we last chatted and I had just joined your channel, I said I would work my way through your videos. Well glad to say that’s me caught up now and seen them all. As I had previously mentioned with my own tech and business background and knowledge, I really respect your skills and abilities and if I wasn’t 1000s of miles away in Scotland, I would be down your shop to spend a week with you for free just to have the pleasure of working with a true and respected Master Craftsman. In my long business career, I have not met many individuals who have the skill/ability levels that you possess plus your attitude towards customer care, your fellow colleagues and your teaching and mentoring skills are nothing short of outstanding. JD should make more use of Master Techs like you to work with design engineers who sometimes don’t think outside the box enough when designing new equipment. Keep up the good work and I am sure you will achieve all your own dreams as you are a “Dream Maker”

Loved how you replaced those bearings. There sure was a lot of rust on the bearing shaft. What a boatload of work was involved to restore the combine. Your experience doing previous overhauls paid off big time. Wow!

That was really interesting to see how complicated a rolling factory could be engineered. This repair/replacement demonstrates how important it is to use high quality alloy metals and quality control measures to manage wear and insure durability of the design like this. Splitting those rusted in bearing races was a good solution that proved itself worthy of more research.

hearing you say about no raccoons came out the auger remined me of years ago ,late 70s ,we had 2 ransome combines from thr 60s era , & it didnt matter how spotless we got those 2 useless bits of crap , when it came time to drag them out for the start of harvest , we'd start em up out in the yard with the auger out & 3 labrador dogs ready , we knew what was about to happen , set those 2 heaps oh junk running & you will never see so many rats come out from everywhere , the dogs loved it , could have been 60 to 70 rats in each what the heck they wanted to do in there christ knows , when those 2 went & i got a claas 116 commander , never a rat went near em !! regards , love your videos , from the UK

Very nice! Lotta ways to do it. I’ve always wanted to try an induction heater. Cut a slot in the outer race and dump the balls out and then heat inner race and pull off. Or with out race gone more room. But slots like that 180 apart. 1 side doesn’t have to be all the way but gives a place for it to split. Lol I used run Vermeer balers….try to run anyway.

Yo zk, you do what works for you on those FA bearings. Pulling the bearing and housing off, take 2 slightly longer bolts and thread nuts on the back of the bearing housing and can be used as push bolts. I thought it was slick as hell, of course you still need an air hammer🤠
@bigfunwmu
@bigfunwmu 2 года назад
Hey Zeth. There is a kind of puller that is made to go into that bearing race where the balls ride and pullt the bearing out without pulling the shaft out. Look up "Beta dummy ball bearing extractor" . There are different sizes from other manufactureres, but that one covers quite a bit at a low price for that puller style.

First off thank u for taking the time to show us ur work I know it takes a lot longer to do this but very grateful u do. My question is when ur removing the pulley shaft and bearings I understand what ur doing with running the bolts in to make it hopefully pull itself out but the question is when ur vibrating the end shaft are u doing that in hopes of breaking it lose easier?

Excellent job Zeth. If I were a farmer the hardest question always would be: Do I run my equipment till it quits (in the field in the mud) or do I have it in for regular maintenance with parts being replaced that could last another season (or maybe not)? I would rely on you guys to let me know, cause you can't set a $300,000 combine on fire in the field (Gretta would frown on that one) get it fixed, and keep her running.
