The Sad Ending To Our Tunisia Trip 

I'm glad you visited our country guys :D . the numbers on the wall are related to election advertisements, every number is specific to a running candidate As far as I know. Sorry about the garbage mess its a real issue here and Tunisians are so fed up too about this matter. Both the municipalities and the people bare the responsibility.

Hello, i'm so sorry your trip ended this way, just to clarify, i am tunisian, and it also saddens me to see someone selling Hitler's pictures here. Honestly, it's the first time that i see someone selling or condoning anything related to Hitler or the monstrosities he's done. We didn't like france occupying our country, but we didn't see the nazis as saviours when they came here in the ww2, they were both trying to abuse our land and people. So no the pictures sold by the guy in the video doesn't represent how people think or feel about jewish people, we have a lot of tunisian jewish people, and we live together with love and peace.

Should you decide to come back one day, I vividly recommend visiting Djerba during the summer months. Finally, let me clarify some points: 1. The black rectangles drawn on the walls are for the upcoming parliamentary elections. They're meant for sticking candidates' "posters" 2. Sad to say, but waste management is a huge problem in the country and people do not care about the environment. Some nationwide initiatives to recycle plastic bottles are bearing fruit. However, there is still a long way to go to get clean streets and cities 3. Honestly, in Tunisia, I have never seen anything related to Hitler or condoning what he's done, having lived here for 19 years. What you have witnessed is shameful and not at all representative of the general Tunisian sentiment

What an adventure at the end ! I am glad you managed to catch your flight. I can answer some of your questions. 1- The numbers on the walls (of public instituations, mainly schools) are normally the spots that will be assigned to the candidats of the upcoming legislative elections of december 17th. 2- I am also surprised to see Hitler picture. I live in France but I grew up and went to school in Tunisia and either in family or in school I was always told how despite the french occupation, when the WWII started, tunisian fought with the french army. My grandfather took a bullet in the leg fighting against the Nazi back then. I don't think the man selling the pictures knows much about history or the real horror of the reich state and its xenophobic crimes and I insure you he is not representative of all tunisians (at least the informed open-minded ones, because no country has a100% perfect population). Actually, during the war, when Tunisia was occupied by the nazis, muslims tunisians hid their jewish compatriots in their houses ♥ In fact a jewish community still exists in Tunisia, mainly in the island of Jerba in the south with El Ghriba synagogue, one of the most ancient ones still active in the world which is the site of an annual pilgrimage. Even of the upcoming elections, the polling stations in Jarba will have, as they should, special schedules to respect the holly chabbat constraints.

i'm happy that you got your plane on time ! just want to clarify as a tunisian girl , some people just don't have enough access to education to be aware of the nazi violence , they just see Hitler as a famous person in the media and they are not aware enough that he is behind thousands of acts of genocides . It hapened to me once and when i explained it to the seller that it was a huge offence and in many countries he can be jailed . He thanked me and was glad that he's aware of that now . I’m sorry for the encounter you had in the medina of Tunis, we are a tolerant people; we have a Tunisian jewish community that lives peacfully in Djerba and they have their pilgrimage every year at the ancient El Ghriba Synagogue. I am not trying to find excuses but in every country you will find people who will cherich the villain. Sorry again for the misfortunat incident at your last day. Hope to see you again in our country where you could meet nice and welcoming people who truly reflect the Tunisian spirit 😇.

Thank you for the video - it was GREAT! As an American married to a Tunisian, we have family there, visit there often, own a home and plan to retire there. Tunisia is an amazingly peaceful and unique place with charming people and culture. And, the food is incredible! I sure hope people become more aware of it and take the time to explore what it offers. It is true about the trash, but Tunisia is also a new democracy still undergoing some growing pains, and civil services unfortunately can be affected by that. I am confident that all that will one day be settled, but the small parts of "bad" in no way detract from all the truly great.

And for the garbage in Sfax, it's very sad that you had to see it, the city is having a big environmental issue these days and they still could find a solution for it. The country is passing through hard times since the revolution and especially after Covid. Finally, I hope you return to our country one day and you find it as fascinating and perfect as it should be

They can facilitate the trip and provide you with insights tips.. TUNISIA it's has tons to offer but you must have a good network of locals to discover it properly. Good luck touring the world!

I last visited Tunisia over 25 yrs ago, my Partner who passed away last year ( together for 35 yrs ❤️) lost his passport in a taxi on way to airport. After 4 frantic hours it was delivered to us by the taxi driver who found it xx I’m returning to Hammamet at beginning of May for the first time since them as a memory and homage trip to him ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Ok now I feel better about going to the airport 4 hours early. I am not built for that type of stress 😅

Dear Boys, with the added drama at the end,I have to rank that as one of the most enjoyable. More because I can empathise with you,though I don't drive - have never taken a test - so unless I'm with someone who drives,I normally deal with taxis,occasionally public transport! Also you went to one of my favourite places in the whole Mediterranean, I've arrived by road & sea,the later being soooo romantic,especially as we were staying in one of those house along the front, with yhe AWESOME view. My favourite view is driving down the hill to La Linea(home of John Galliano) on the way from one of ,it seems like thousands of trips to Sotogrande,to catch a flight from Gibraltar. You're looking at the Strait of Gibraltar, Europe on one side Africa on other,epic,like the ultimate Bond Set! Sorry you that experience in the souk,but,itbwas Nazi occupied & the French were not the greatest governing body. They did have a photo of Egyptian heartthrob Omar Sharif& other nother Africa film/tv stars! As I'm sure you've learned you can't condemn a country because of the bigotry of one man. Oscar,I too fell in love with the souk in Mutrah,next to Muscat; though that was interesting 1980s-2000s! And Dan I too have Misophonia,so really understand. Poor Oskar,I get that we sufferers can be quite agitating,but,its really not out of spite,we really can't help it. Kudos Dan fir even mentioning it,as I feel its very under researched & as result misunderstood. The Roman ruins are spectacular, I'm sure you'd have both hung with Queen Dido & gotten on fabulously. As for your dream of settling in California,; after your adventures ,some revisits ,a book,possibly a TV series I can see you with your lucky lucky,children, having a fantastic life,and I'll say,being VERY happy,hnot many children's parents have already been all around the world. You will be such cool dads,you got so much love & that's the most important part.the whole thing. Kudos as ever for the madly professional production,editing etc. Will be happy and sad when you come to end of your odyssey, but,am sure you'll have something to compliment the new chapter of your lives.But,that to look forward to. I really enjoyed your video. I thought you guys did a great job covering all aspects of the country. I really appreciated you covering the good AND the bad and was honest & clear enough to show it and not just show the good the entire time (as another video here on RU-vid did). My trip there back in 2019 was amazing, just everything about it but, I was very saddened to see so much garbage because the country itself is so incredibly beautiful and then you see loads of plastic and it just breaks your heart. Watching your video and seeing how incredibly beautiful it is but also seeing the “real” picture of the not so good is important, that way when people go, they’re not completely in shock and especially the end of your video when you talked about the reality of getting through the airport and the security and the timing and everything else. That portion of your video was equally or more important information of the trip itself so that people are aware of how things work there. I’m glad I stuck around until the very end because I found that to be very informative for anyone who goes there.

There's the center and the northen west of Tunisia that tourists rarely know about. Places like Bni Mtir and Fernanah in the north, Jebal Essned in the centre, Ksar Ghuilene in the south, Borj Erras in the sahel etc

I hope you guys don't have to deal with airport close calls in the future. It's definitely very stressful to be late for a flight. Can't wait to see where you guys go next. Happy travels.

Just a little advise from a tunisian friend for all who plans to visit the country : when your trip's end just be at least 4 hours in the airport before your flight

Lovely video and interesting country. My wife and I are opposites regarding timing appointments. She is consistently late and I am consistently early. My logic of ”you never know what could go wrong” is lost on her. I will play your video for her because it is the all time example of what could go wrong! On a more personal note one of my most common nightmares is starting out with tons of time before a flight, things happen to delay me, I seem unable to move faster, and miss the flight. 😮

You were very lucky. We were refused to check in at that same airport with 1h20 to spare before departure and had to take a later flight to another destination in order to get back home in time. Getting from the check-in desk to the departure gate takes 15-20 minutes at most 😞

Most people would have a heart attack with the passport thing. I was at the airport checking in for an a flight to HI and couldn’t find my ticket. Had to go back home to search for it. Found it on top of the dresser. Got rebooked on a later flight. I can imagine your stress and you’re still together. 😉

Numbers on the walls are used during the elections, each candidate has access to a box, in which they can stick whatever they want (usually posters). You usually find them on the walls of public instituitions, such us public schools and municipalities, because that is where elections usually take place.

They put a poster for every candidate so that people know which number corresponds to which person (or set of persons for parlimentary election) for the election day. Other than that, that man's opinion isn't representative of the general tunisian sentiment (talking about the part with the photos of the "mustache guy"). I'm a tunisian and i think i've never saw someone promoting that in the way that guy was doing.

Wow, what a travel vlog! It sounds like Tunisia might not have ended on a high note but I'm still glad you were able to see the ruins in Carthage. I remember studying the Punic Wars in university...kinda nice to see what's left. I'm also so sorry about the mad dash to the airport! Talk about a series of unfortunate events, eh? I'm glad you still managed to get on the plane (seems like you had a little bit of luck with the Emirates station manager!)! I can't believe we're almost at country 100!!!

Chaotic departure 😄

I used to travel for work all the time and had some very stressful airport situations as well. The thing I would always keep in mind so I didn't totally lose it was that worst case scenario I would have to catch the next flight, whenever that was. Sometimes when you are situations like that it is almost like you if don't make the flight you are going to die and you get yourself even more worked up. It is funny and ironic though that it literally seems like someone is indeed playing a joke on you when all those bizarre things happen. Seems almost impossible......

So we have a 3 night side trip to Tunisia planned the first week of August from Italy. I know 3 nights isn’t enough but we are planning to stay at an AirBNB with that view you said would be amazing to wake up to every morning. Our plan is to enjoy the natural beauty of Carthage / Siddi Bou Said, but we are worried about how touristy it is. Maybe we can easily drive to Tunis in the evenings to see the real Tunisia? Any advice is welcomed here!

When there is an election in Tunisia, candidates/parties can stamp their photos/programs in these cases, with a given specific number for each.

I dont think that picture seller know history like that...meaning that his opinion is informed at all. I think he gave you the thumbs up because of your interest and him trying to sell you his wares.
