The villains are the real victims. Life did this to them. They are the way they are because of the circumstances in their lives and all they want to be is loved.
sure, but we should not forget why they did this either. if one can forget what society did and forgive it, one can be called gifted. but that's rare. and also very hard so... this is why villains' deeds can be understood sometimes
Despite the poor quality of Alice 2,i'm still pretty satisfied because at least it provide me the last pieces of Red Queen' past, something that i was always curious about . And it also proof that no one is totally perfect, even the White Queen.
yeah, it's amazing when villains' past gets opened and that's a shame that a lot of their stories just turn into dust without explaining what they've been through
I love how everyone is not whole for their role. The red queen is not a whole villain because she was a victim of a sad childhood. The white queen is not a whole "angel" because it was her fault why her sister turned out to be like this. It shows vulnerability and possibilities for their characters.

All she wanted was to hear her sister confessing the truth and to apologize. The white queen's lie started all of these madness, if only she just told the truth right then and there, then iracebeth wouldnt have to experience such ridicule of their people and she wouldnt have become the laughingstock of the royal family. Iracebeth wouldnt have turned evil if the subjects of their kingdom treated her like a real princess and not a clown. Even her parents didnt do anything when all the people were laughing at their older daughter. If only they tried defending her at that scene, then maybe there wouldve still been a chance for her to change. But no. They thought that iracebeth was in the wrong for showing her authority to their KiNd subjects who were blatantly showing ridicule to their crown princess. And thus, losing her place and making the white queen the heir to the throne. Tbh, im still quite unsatisfied. The moment the white queen DID finally admit it was when there was no one there to hear it nor their parents to finally know that the very reason why their eldest daughter got that big head of hers was because of their youngest daughter. I wouldve loved it if they showed a scene where the people would realize that it was them who turned iracebeth that way. They had no one else to blame for the monster that they themselves created.
yeah, that feels bad that no one FULLY admitted thet were wrong about her. that's another reason her story is sad. but the good thing is that we are all free to imagine what happened next but wasn't shown. maybe they apologized lol

ngl i really liked alice through the looking glass bc of the depth and backstory it gave the red queen. she was hilarious but kind of a cariacature in the first one. in the second, she felt like a real and tragic character. the head injury also gave her wild rages a surprisingly plausible rationale... she literally had traumatic brain injury, prob to her frontal lobe, causing poor impulse control. ugh i felt so bad for her after everything is revealed. it was so gratifying to see the sisters reconcile.

There is always a reason for a villain to be the protagonist, Nice Job for Helena Bonham carter for always being a great actress for portraying her character
A lot of people are somehow skipping over a HUGE plot line which is confusing the hell out of me. "Oh she had a choice not to be evil" - "She turned evil because someone lied, she could have made better choices.?" - "No reason to be evil, she had a choice to not be that way, just because someone ate a tart. No excuses for her behavior." How are yall forgetting that because of the lie in question, she ended up with an injury that caused a deformity? A pretty girl who ends up with a deformity that everyone laughs at, everyone stares at. Is it that hard to picture what her feelings would have been in this situation? She got mad and stormed out when her sister lied about the tarts. Her parents wouldn't believe her and instead believed the "perfect" sister. She got mad, she got frustrated. She stormed out and because of that ended up hitting her head. That injury caused her head to grow in size. Her sisters lie, led to her injury, and her sister CONTINUES to lie about it. Everyone keeps saying its the Red Queens fault and no matter what she says no one will believe her and no matter how much she asks her sister, she won't tell the truth. The Red Queen, who now has a massive insecurity about her large head, and probably hearing everyone compare her to her "perfect" sister. Who is "beautiful and moral." How would you feel if you were being compared to the person who turned you into a laughing stock? A beautiful girl who probably looked in the mirror everyday crying, feeling like a freak, and wishing/praying she could go back to normal, while the person who is to blame is living their best life? How she reacted, how she feels, the reasons to why she does everything she does. It all make sense if you understand human emotions and human nature. How would any of you feel if you were pretty and because of someones lie you now have a permanent deformity. Afterwards everyone kept blaming you for your injury and laughing at you, all the while comparing you to the person who was the cause of everything. The same person who kept lying about what happened and no matter what you did everyone would keep blaming you while believing them?? Hope that puts the character better into perspective for some of you.
I totally agree. But may I add, her sister lied, caused the pretty one to get a deformity, sister lives her best life, etc. BUT also Iracebeth had to see that every single day! She had to be reminded of it everyday by seeing the reason that she was injured and how Mirana's lie worked out so well for herself.
iracebeth is one of my favourite characters of all time, this was so important!!! thank you for this perspective. the second movie wasn't the best, but it did add a lot of depth to the sisters' characters. i don't think mirana is the villain either, but she definitely was wrong in keeping the lie to herself all these years even while watching her sister suffer and knowing her responsibility in it. i loved that they reconciled in the end, but the red queen deserved so much love :((

Yes yes some people are born psychopaths but in most movies and tv shows the villains are the ones who were most blamed and hated like for instance in vampire diaries Damon the older Salvatore brother was hatted and abused and still was blamed for everything wrong that happened

The white queen is also a very nice character, she lied to her sister, but still don’t want to lose her, she fear if ppl will make fun of her just like the way her sister get.and when the time stop and everybody froze, she did keep her sister with she, and she didn’t turn her back when she’s froze
Well, it is not completely Mirana’s fault. Racie was literally greedy for the tarts and only gave Mirana the crusts when she wanted a fair share. They are sisters and obviously if you have a sibling you fight a lot so Mirana lied about eating the tarts and blamed it on Racie. Racie overreacted and ran away. The mother quickly blamed Racie when she shouldn’t have done so. As a mother, it’s your responsibility to make things right and she just blamed it all on Racie.
She didn’t overreact. Obviously you’d get upset if your sister, who always got what she wanted (as was implied), got away with something that she did and got you in trouble in the process. She was a little girl and didn’t know any better than to run away.

Helena Bonham Carter said that she saw Iracebeth's anger and violent tendencies as a defence mechanism. she had been hurt and her love had been rejected by everyone around her again and again, while the sister who is arguably responsible for her downfall in the first place enjoys all the praise and adoration. the biggest bullies are the most insecure and damaged inside :((( Helena did an incredible job bringing this depth to this character in an otherwise mid movie.

I love this movie because it added nuances to characters without changing their characterization. The red queen although was a victim of her sister's lie was not a good person. She often treated her sister with rudeness and disrespect, and even after that, what happened to the Red Queen does not justify her emotional and verbal abusiveness and taking the lives (or heads) of many people. The white queen although did lie, we can often reason with why she lied, her sister treated her poorly and she was a child it makes sense why she would lie about it. But that still doesn't change the fact that she loved her sister unconditionally no matter what she did and what happened to her and was at many points the only person who supported the sister. The red queen is still a villain and the white queen was still the hero, what this movie did was create conversations and give the characters more depth.
I would argue that while the red queen's past is rough, you don't have to be entitled. If fact I think her being more light about her situation would have given her want she wanted
I don't think she really loved her. Because she caused her so much pain just for a lie. That is not love at all, that is loving her self more than her sister. Love is not selfish.
