The saddest immigration film (and one of the most sad films probably of all time) is the 1983 movie "El Norte." It was directed by Gregory Nava, and is about Guatemalan siblings who flee the civil war to the US. Most of what they go through is pretty heart wrenching, even horrifying, but there are some scenes that are light hearted and colorful as well, but the ending is crushing.

I'm a 2nd generation Mexican American with my parents being the 1st. The difference of back then to today is the entitlement, work ethic, and yearning to have a better life in a society that holds a standard. Today, there are no standards as everything is accepted, no work ethic as the government just hands money and housing, and an entitlement that makes everyone believe that everything should revolve around them. No wonder hispanics are siding with closing the border to immigrants, because they are giving people like our grandparents a bad name.
