I was that Bullet guy in Kari 10 years back. 2019 is when I finally started improving a lot. Nowadays when I ride in traffic (after 3 years), I find I'm relaxed at any speed. I know how to break really hard, steer really quickly, trust the motorcycle, keep the powerband, shift fast. Just feels tension free
Karthikeya's absolute childlike fascination towards everything and Shumi's brutal realism! Contrasting perspectives talking about the same thing and making the most amount of sense! So much to learn🤌
Just the episode I needed. After the last episode of ThisConnect, I found myself searching for racing schools and how to register for one, comparing prices, noticing that most websites are outdated, and finally stopping at realizing that the cheapest school too is a little out of my budget at the moment. However, Shumi put it into perspective really nicely when he compared the prices of a racing school to hospital bills, and I also realized that there's no price tag attached to passion and experience. This day I make a promise to myself that by the end of 2023, I would have at least had spent 1 weekend at the race track and improved my skills just a bit. Thank you team MotorInc!
When Shumi said “Race track will make you laugh but the hospital will hurt you first” I felt that. I recently met with an accident and broke my collar bone all because I misjudged my bike’s braking. Going through this podcast made me realise these are very minor/major things that you can learn by trail and error which would mean getting hurt but at the same all this can be done within a day or two once you master it on the racetrack.
My first and only track experience was on the BIC on the diesel Race Polo back in 2013. The 6-8 laps left me a changed man. I still haven't been able to make it back after all these years. Thanks for sparking the thought once again. Today, I promise myself that I will make it back to *some* racetrack by this time next year.
I attended my first track school in oct 22 and i crashed on the first day. I agree with not crashing on your first weekend. How i felt after is that it is the safest environment and everyone was like it is normal to crash and you just pickup and continue. Just imagine the scenario if you would have crashed on road. You would have been scared, your mind rush towards thoughts like what the hell happened and now everyone will come to your home or hospital being concerned. This crash changed my perspective about crash on track and it concreted my mind that this is places where i am willing to push to absolute limit without worrying about alot of things. If you crash on your first weekend then it should be learning for you about the environment and not a show stopper
Braking distance points in emergency stop , looking in mirror at the same time that someone doesn't bump in to you from behind too :) Wet braking , so so many little things that the track teaches us which is really applicable on roads daily driving and riding. And yes BREATHE such an imp thing that clears anxiety if any that causes the panic. Thanks for such a great conversation to both of you. lots of learning to take with us.
@@motorinc Basics of Road safety for self and others Driving and Riding (Attitude to curb Road rash , wrong side / opposite side driving , small tips and tricks for better riding , safety for pillion riders too which most of them miss , patience to follow signals and rules basically )
You're taking the topics on the table which we were really wanted to know. We needed all this knowledge & this experience. Hats off to you guys. 2 of my favorite automotive journalists, talking about what we wanted for eternity. Much love and respect. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@motorinc Very honestly. I’m actually enjoying the “surprise me” / shuffle mode for now - not knowing what’s coming next. If we can do something that makes safer driving ‘cool’ and something masses willingly embrace, that’ll be phenomenal. At some point I’d love to see bike reviews from you all. Also, awaiting whatever Zu will bring on. I think I have some idea and can’t wait to see it come through.
Singhee, shumi… much love ❤️. Just watched this 🥰. 19kg down now. Now really want to join for the next TWO session. Will call tomorrow to connect about this
I still remember my one and only track day. TVS had invited customers to sign up for a track day at a GoKart track in Bangalore as part of their Apache campaign back in 2009 i think. We met their racers and a basic session on lines etc. Then their fully kitted racers took us around the track leading on their stunt Apaches and us on our Apaches trying our best to follow those lines. Glad I didn't crash and had fun.
The topic I've been waiting for you to take up. Going to a racetrack or riding school has been a long time wish for me. Thank you for talking about this ❤
The idea of track days always seemed so intimidating and far fetched, but Shumi and Kartikeya take all of the tension out of the idea, which I guess, is one of the things they set out to do. This is like having a veteran pinpoint and resolve all of your fears, insecurities and harness your talent. Glad to have this kind of mentoring.
Wow! What an eye-opening conversation. This was an insight into what it takes to build one's skills as a racer. I love the way you both have broken down your thought processes in approaching track racing and what you take out of it! What I really love about this channel is the introspective personalities that you both have which reflects in your conversation and it makes it that much more interesting for viewers! Keep doing this more! Your experiences and suggestions are a treasure trove of information for us all! Knowing the limits of our vehicles should be mandated by government. Everyone should be forced to learn the limits of their vehicle (braking, stopping distance, emergency and evasive techniques) when taking a license. This will make our roads a lot safer.
Guess what? I won the annual membership at big rock dirtpark in Kolar last month. Was super stoked that i won the lucky draw. Have always enjoyed the fact that i can try something a 100 times in a place like this and even though you don't put efforts consciously, the repetitions make you aware of the situation you're going to be in and what to expect. Definitely agree with sighee saying that we're calmer and with shumi's video game analogy. Exactly why I like a dirtpark and not any random trail. What you guys talk about makes a lot of sense. I'm eagerly waiting for something more than the podcasts now. Something more pleasing to the eye.😜 Keep up the good work folks. Love it. Will be waiting for every video you guys put out.
Dude! I love dirt! Properly envious! And BigRock is awesome. Hope you get to hang out with CS! He is awesome. My first proper dirt session was with him at BigRock! I’ll never forget that!
The flow of the conversation has improved by leaps and bounds in this one compared to the older ones. The jump from topic to topic felt a little jarring and sudden in the earlier episodes but it is way better in this one. Great to see the team making improvements with every video.
It refreshed my fond memories of first track day which I went in OCT 2022 at MMRT with Two school. Bike doesn't matter for sure. I went on race track with my G310GS and had super fun. It definitely helped me to know my bike better. Getting to learn things from Shumi, Anand, Vignesh, Rishi and fellow riders. Race track environment is different. Schools make you feel comfortable.
I can never have enough of this conversation and this is a topic, especially the conversation of being on a racetrack. Where you only compare yourself with yourself 😇
Ah! Here you both are. I was wondering where have you'll gone. It's spectacular to see the two most admired by me moto journalist sharing screen, mic and together talking about motorcycle and cars. Oh is this Highside Lowside in the making?😃 Will we get Shop Manual as well? Will we get videos about travel on cars and bikes? You can call it Travelling wheels 😃 Can you plan on getting guests as well 😃 OMG! I'm all excited for MotorInc 👍
I'm always bored when I start listening to podcasts but I always listen till the end whenever Shumi starts speaking. I live in a hilly town in west Bengal and the guys in my area try to prove how fast they can go on the street which makes them think they are very good riders. How do we increase awareness about guys respecting the traffic rules and not try to squid out everytime in the streets? This behaviour can cause a serious accident someday as the streets in my town are very narrow and there are no proper footpaths for pedestrians.
What MotorInc said. When you do your best, it has a ripple effect that changes how people around you do that thing. Eventually, the ripple becomes a tsunami. Just do your part and don't worry about the rest
Out of the blue but Brilliant. Could immediately connect. The only sort of track experience I have was an excellent go-kart track with proper corners including uphill and downhill sections. Went there twice. In the first I was lost and probably came last. The second was the fastest lap, I let everyone else zoom off and then had an exhilarating 10 laps, loved every bit of it and came out the fastest for the day. I will sign up for the riding school the moment I can manage it, on my RTR180.
After getting hooked to the other podcast and waiting for episodes, I was searching for more on Spotify and found this series which I started listening to and this episode gave me a very different perspective about driving / riding and the whole race track bit which I haven't even thought of. I have a Ford Freestyle P1.2 and a Pulsar N160, now I know Shumi said get whatever you have to at least get a start, so I will now go and try and research racing schools and where they are located. I am in Hyderabad and don't know if I have a school / track here.
Loved this! I can listen to both of you talk about absolutely anything. You can make some videos on automotive history of specific brands etc. Lot's of scope for content in this format itself. BTW have you guys left Powerdrift and zigwheels?
I always dreamt of riding in the track,, and i have not any idea how to get there, but after watching this podcast, maybe I'll plan on actually doing it. Thanks for opening my eyes...
Great episode as always. I still have a few more doubts as a beginner on a bike regarding the topic which I honestly don't know where else to ask. Mostly about the part where you said we can take our own bikes, no matter what it is, to a track school. So can we take it in stock condition itself, or do we have to get any mods done for safety and other track needs? Like better tires, or sliders to prevent damages during any possible crashes, or messing around with the ABS system to better suit the track (heard somewhere about ABS needing to be switched off for the track?) etc. PS: I have to admit I couldn't stop thinking which looked more badass. Kartikeya's moustache or Shumi's beard.
No mods needed for school. Once you start getting serious about going back to the track, a lot... then you might make changes. But TWO, for example, doesn't ask for ABS changes etc. And most people are so far from the limit of their tyres, that initially, almost any tyre in good shape is enough to come have a great weekend on.
My first track day was at Kari with TWO track day and at the end of my first session I was greeted by Shumi with carefully selected words (not abusive) to put back my exhaust db killer. Apparently, the classroom session was interrupted every time I crossed the start/finish line.
I can't remember the last time I sat through 35-minute-long videos and watched them without skipping (while skipping lunch and work!) and bingeing on videos! ThisConnect series has become a binge fest for me!
Trying to find time in between academic commitments for track days since years, but no success. Difficult logistics due to the scanty amount of racetrack infrastructure in India! Hope people like us grow in numbers, racetracks become more accessible and this sport is viewed with a bit more respect , if not as much as cricket!
Hope we get different type of content... 4 podcasts back to back is slightly getting tiring to watch.. I mean one needs to take out time and watch these to really understand what you guys have to say.. I have enjoyed all the podcasts but genuinely this is slightly getting tiring... may be podcast every sunday?? and different content in mid week... This is not hate comment, just pure feedback from my side and want this channel to grow and I was really pumped since the reboot episode. But all we got are just podcasts... May be so much of different content is getting ready, and we are ready to wait for it instead of getting only podcasts... Really sorry if this comment was very harsh...
Feedback is always welcome! But we’re not chasing the goal of releasing content fast. We want to have super high quality. Podcasts will be Tuesdays. That’s almost fixed by now. What else will we do? Stay tuned! There’s a lot more coming!
It definitely helps if guys show graphics, animation or real incidents when you speak about reference. For example in Honda and tayota you guys were talking about lot of models which we are not aware of.. if u put pics of it while u talking.. it will be helpful. For example fortnine RU-vid channel
People try to make their videos short because the prevalent school of thought is that today’s attention spans can’t deal with long videos. You guys are the antithesis to that premise. This is the second MotorInc video and both times, a half hour just flew by and I came away with value added to my life (except for the time when you dumped on the Dominar 😊). Haven’t been to a track or a school yet. Mostly because it is hard doing so from Mumbai. This city is just disadvantageous for recreational motorcyclists in every way. The additional logistics costs are hard to swallow, especially when you have other financial responsibilities. But maybe 2023 is the year when I will get a chance to train. What would help is if you could post links to the schools that offer L1 classes. By the way I hear that there is an new track coming up at Lonavala. I am not holding my breath though.
Idk wether it is relavant or not but,for sure I'm not nitpicking, but there a thing that's bothering me in this video,if you see shumi's laptop,it comes with motorinc logo and on the other hand karthi's has the apples logo,if you guys could put motorinc logo on that laptop too,it would be cherry on top kind of thing, other than that the podcast was fabulous
Shumi sir please make a content on ktm Duke's specially on our dream 390... everything like how they are in nature why one choose them is 390 for amateurs will be a scarry machine...blah blah Please sir
Also add who should buy 200, 250, and 390 If someone is thinking of 250 should he upgrade to 390... Your valuable review on this will help all the enthusiasts to choose a perfect one.
Really love the topic enjoyed every bit of this video. I also wish to do the track days. How can i start Schumi sir, please guide when and how. I am from bengalore.
Ahhh...I assume the audio issue is resolved in this upload. Now on to the topic. A track is THE best place to push and discover one's riding/driving skill. An enclosed, controlled environment to learn. Unfortunately,I am yet to go to one and would really want to overcome my fear of leaning the bike into corners properly. Till that time comes(soon), maybe I would try and get more settled on the bike which has barely been ridden 3K kms since last February. Maybe as the odo climbs up and I learn the ways, I will become more comfortable. But the naked truth of one's riding does come out on the track. Also about Karthikeya's point of racers being conscious about self preservation in MotoGP, may I present Jack Miller v/s Joan Mir, 2021 DohaGP, lap 19 as an example. 😂😂😂😂
Haha! Good examples! Here’s something to try until you can come to the track. Go slower than usual (so you’re calm) and ride by looking farther ahead than usual (this is why you need to go slow - it’s not easy). Keep doing this. And suddenly you’ll realise you keep feeling slow (calm and in control) but you’re going faster!
My heart gets so happy that all of this is happening finnaly in India the talks that we have missed . And everything automotive . But obviously I would other things too and I know those are coming like the dream wala video with Karthikeya was so well written and presented good job guys
In the big picture it's a good thing! You'll learn and enjoy every step of the way, instead of jumping up the ladder, skipping steps and scaring yourself
Two of the best minds in bike/automotive industry.... But not sure whether they know the pulse of the RU-vid viewing Indian public..... Hope Karthikeya takes more ownership since Shumi is too idealistic not realistic....
Quick questions: 1. I am 39 going to hit 40 in October, am I too old to hit a racer track? Personally I have been riding (doing road trips, and long one's specially) since 2006-07. Started from a Pulsar 150, moved to RE Thunderbird 350, then moved to KTM RC390, then to a Kawasaki Vulcan 650, then a Ninja 650 and a Hero XPulse since I wanted to move to Adventure tourers and now finally I own and ride the KTM ADV390. I have close to about 90K or more kms covered touring across India. 2. Can I take my ADV 390 to refer tracks or should I go for a R15 to learn the tricks? 🙏🙏
Age is no barrier to the track. It's a lower risk environment that helps you focus on riding. As to what motorcycle to bring? For the first few track sessions, especially if you're going a school? It doesn't matter. Sportsbikes become more important and useful only once you get properly serious about the racetrack (as opposed to just riding skills)
@@motorinc thank you for the response guys, really appreciate it. I'm a little late watching all the podcasts, watching it twice to appreciate it better. Thank you for this series. And as they say, better late than never 😊😊
Don't need a podcast for this. It's a huge commitment to go racing. Start small. Either a track day to work out if it's to your taste... or find a local race event... KTM does seem to hosting the RC Cup in many cities
Superb stuff dearest dynamic duo. Quick question: Are there any schools out there to help car drivers become better? Like a driving coach who can help someone not just get better, but get better at getting better? Asking for the self, and to share, of course.
Just one question Would you still be connected with powerdrift zigwheels etc.? Reboot showed as if it’s shumi’s channel but podcast looks like you are interviewing him? Couldn’t understand where the channel is going
I have a Himalayan with a pair of tubeless radials-tube setup. Can i corner on it on a racetrack? Is it worth to make a trip on it to TWO? Would like to hear from Shumi regarding this as the front end washes out almost always even at low speed while entering a curve. With good tyres! Is it the rubbish chassis?
Of course! The first few times at the track, the bike is far less important because you learn so much so quickly. Front washing out has multiple components, many of which are rider error. Which is what we'll try to solve at the track
I dream of driving on a race track with my own superbike and after watching this episode realised it's not gonna happen soon. Hope my experience would worth the wait... By the way I own 110cc air cooled single cylinder 2 valve engine named ACTIVA. Forgot to mention it's 6G..
Hi Omkar, we're not aware of any. Off-road schools are there in the Mumbai-Pune region though. Shumi teaches at indimotard.com/two. He says the (size of) the racetrack is important because you can go faster as your confidence grows. Parking lots and go kart tracks do help at the beginning but the room to grow there is limited.
Too much talks about motorcycles and motorcycles only on RU-vid. Let's talk about safety gears, helmet testings, daily riding jackets and pants providing ample safety and being affordable for the masses. I think thr more we talk about it, more demand will be created and the more it will be available and at an affordable price. Just my thoughts.
They weren't on his laptop, but on a case he uses for it since that MacBook is always on the move on a motorcycle. For the podcast, it was blurring that beautiful logo so we got him to leave the case out
hey i am very confused in manual and automatic cars like intelligent variable clutch , dual clutch transmission ,paddle shifter etc . could you guys please explain that in a podcast difference between manual and automatic cars
@@motorinc hi could you guys please explain about the automatic and manual cars in an upcoming podcast or short video cause i am really confused by intelligent variable transmission, double clutch, paddle shifters etc. what is all this stuff is it like a quickshifter but for cars? please team motorinc help
Start the video after the initial ads. As soon as the video starts drag the bar to just 3-4 seconds before finish. Let the video finish. Then hit replay. No ads throughout. Thank me later.
