It took me forever to find this last time it was mentioned so if it saves anyone else some frustration: vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/ * Christopher Tolkien's English translation (with the ON as well) is The Saga of King Heiðrek the Wise (Saga Heiðreks Konungs Ins Vitra). Direct link: vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/The%20Saga%20Of%20King%20Heidrek%20The%20Wise.pdf Not to be confused with: www.vsnr.org/publications/ * the Turville-Petre edition (that Christopher Tolkien wrote the intro to) that is in Old Norse only

I enjoyed this video. As much as I read more of the Icelandic sagas, I really am looking forward to reading this saga. It sounds like a D&D campaign and that's so very awesome. :D

You can read a good portion of the sagas on Icelandic Saga Database (www.sagadb.org/). Also they are found on the Viking Society for Northern Research (vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/), Dr. Crawford mentions this site in his videos sometimes. I know you can find a couple of them on Project Gutenberg too.

Thanks for sharing. I read this saga in my four volume collection of Fornaldarsögur Norðurlanda which I bought when I lived in Reykjavík 19 years ago. One of my favorites! I studied Old Norse under Professer Liberman and Professor Grimstad at the University of Minnesota and at the University of Iceland, and at Fróðskaparsetur Føroya in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.

Thank you for having an interest In this subject. But also for bringing it on to us native pagans. Hope you’ve kept it up, since this video is 5 years old. Greetings from a Dane, on adventure in Australia 🇦🇺🇩🇰

I am a professional actor and will be portraying Hervor to teach young children and high schoolers about Old Norse and traditional Viking eras (so they aren't just learning from Marvel). Your videos have helped so much with pronunciation. I took a few Old English, Middle English, and History of the English Language classes while at Uni; would I be correct in assuming the pronunciations are quite similar? Or should I be aware of any changes? I want to be as authentic as I can be in the short time I am with the kids.

In my family we still name the first children after their grandparents. We're Frisian, so possibly that tradition goes back all the way to the times of the sagas
