I really don't understand how some still dismiss space exploration as not worthwhile; we're just so caught up in our own petty affairs that we miss the big picture. Living out our entire existence on this rock until we meet our demise, either by our own hand or by some act of nature, would be so unfortunate given our potential for greatness.

Anthony Serocco Please stop projecting your philosophy onto the rest of humanity. If our nature was so strongly oriented toward self-destruction or self-sabotage there would be no way we've managed to make it 66 years without a nuclear weapon being used on another nation even with situations like India/Pakistan and NATO/USSR where these nations and alliances were at each other's throats.

+samrulz7 I totally agree, I mean what could possibly be more interesting and exciting than finding out about space and it's incomprehensible brilliance. Although maybe it is best that this study is confined to a select few, there is no doubt that some won't be able to handle it as it may make their human lives seem pointless and could lead to people not being able to function in daily lives.

I think this is Carl Sagan's take on the Fermi Paradox. With the civilization part being one the theories that tries to explain the paradox.

Carl Sagan has a knack for reducing a grown man to tears with the eloquence, power and poetic truth in his words. After every speech I've heard from this man I get a lump in my throat. He was truly remarkable. An inspiration for all of humanity. He maybe gone from us but his work and legacy will endure for generations. We will never forget Carl Sagan.

You know the question people occasionally ask of who you would pick to travel back in time and have a conversation with if it was possible? Sagan is definitely up there near the top for me. Just because he has had probably the biggest positive impact on my life and millions of others around my age. Plus, it would be incredible to have the opportunity to explain to him the J.W.S.T and inform him on everything he missed. I feel like we would owe him that for inspiring so many people to reach for the stars and think critically about the world around them.

Unbearably beautiful: this moved me to tears: I've heard these words before of course. But so so moving, so wonderful such effort and skill has been put to underpin them with these modern images and music. I think Sagan and Feynman will be being listened to in a 1000 years, as what they say is so profound, eloquent and poetic. thank you.

45k subs. This fact alone decimates my hope that Carl's message is ringing loud enough to be heard. In my mind, Sagan stands alone as the most consequential human being ever born. If we do wipe ourselves out, the Voyager probes will be the only evidence that we ever existed at all.

If you go to the countryside where light-pollution is minimal you can see it. On the farm i grew up on we would go outside in the middle of the night after turning off all the lights in the house, and the majesty of the milky way galaxy would stretch over our heads. Living in the city now, i miss that sometimes.

When Carl Sagan says, "Life looks for Life" I tear up a little because of how true it is, all we want to do is find something like us, a sentient, technological civilization. Life itself is amazing, sentient life even more so, and a life sustaining planet that is both beautiful & diverse, such as ours, is something we should cherish dearly. Once our species as a whole begins to truly respect life & our amazing planet, can we venture toward the stars. It will come, we're..an adaptable species..

The music starting at 1:23 and the mix of carl's voice gives me chills everytime...NEED MOAR SAGAN SERIES. .this makes me kinda sad to a certain degree because i was in NASA camp years ago when i was younger..but i did not take it seriously i guess due to my age and maturity...now that i look back..i wish i was able to grasp the concept of what i was doing and learning...now that im 21 i can fully understand the Cosmos alot better..Thank you Carl Sagan,Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Stephen Hawking.

I wish we were already living in space and working in space, exploring the solar system the same we've explored Earth. Imagine, for instance, waking up on a space ship headed out to, say, Ganymede, on some sort of mission, knowing that in just a few hours, you'll touch down on that ancient and cratered surface so very like our own moon, and you'll look up and there, floating in the void, will be mighty Jupiter. God what a rush that would be! But unfortunately I, and others like me, will just have to wait. Wait and dream

I'm so thankful for Carl Sagan, truly an amazing man. Carl Sagan is the reason that i am going to school for astronomy/physics. He has made more of an impact on me than any other person in my life. I LOVE Carl Sagan and Science and his Voice oh wow sounds of poetry when he spoke, I melted the first time I heard his Voice ok every time.. we lost a great man when he passed away.. But at lest we have him on Video and can watch his telling's of the Cosmos any time... He had so much to give... The Cosmos is all it is or ever was or ever will be. We are, a way for the cosmos to know it’s self.
