Priest. Prisoner. Saint. This short film is based on the true story of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic priest who sacrificed his life to save a Polish political prisoner at the concentration camp in Auschwitz.
True definition of a martyr. He knew what would happen, and didn’t care. Like the man said “if I can bring someone closer to god, then I gladly suffer”… such a powerful and meaningful message.
Maximillian Kolbe was a great man, to willingly sacrifice his life to save the life of another. Knowing what he volunteered for, how he was going to die, was going to be throughly unpleasant.
The descendants of these Jews are now doing the same or even worse to the Palestinians. But the hypocritical European civilization is silent. One day you will be ashamed of your silence.
@@kevinmalone3210I know. I am Roman Catholic. I suffer with many health conditions but nothing like he suffered. I pray to him when it's truly bad. When I suffered through narcissistic abuse and became suicidal I prayed to God to give me the strength and him and my mother and grandmother. They all gave me the strength to get out and get through.
And you have heard this said about no greater love...true...John 15:13? But there is a greater love.......someone that lays down their life for their enemy. That is what God did and asked His Son Jesus to be the sacrificial lamb that the enemies of God might be saved and transformed. Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.
I'm constantly fascinated by the stories of heroic deeds that took place during WW2, in the concentration camps in particular. Further proves you can't kill the human spirit and the will to show compassion is as powerful as anything. What a man this was to do such a deed for someone he did not know
Here is one from my family . My grandfather worked as an Ingenieur building v2 Rockets . He gave the co workers (kz Häftlingen) his cigarettes so they could trade for food. He was caught and they said , next time he would swap uniforms .. March 1945 he told a nazi about his view of Adolf. He was send to the eastern front ! MIA RIP . We will never know what happened , but never forgotten
When I was baptized as a Catholic - then I had the opportunity to choose one holy protector for myself. I chose Maximilian Kolbe. At that time I was about 12 years old - I didn't really know much about him, but as the years went by I learned a lot more about this priest who gave his life.
I am a Protestant. My protector is Jesus. The bible calls all believers saints. And the bible describes how dead believers sleep in the grave pending the day of resurrection. Let's not forget that Hitler was raised Catholic.
The story of Father Maximilian Kolbe is also a reminder of the importance of compassion. Compassion is the willingness to help others, even if it means sacrificing something of yourself. Compassion is a powerful force that can change the world. It can give people comfort, hope, and a sense of connection.
I first heard about Max Kolbe 18yrs ago. I have venerated him ever since. I named my first born son in his honour. I am not a Catholic, but Kolbe is a shining example of God's real existence in that forsaken place of inhumanity.
@@paxchristi1661 Thanks for the invitation, but if you're born Orthodox, you die Orthodox. Having said that, I did teach R.E. in a Catholic high school for 15yrs. Trained at a Catholic university. I think the best I can do is be an outside supporter and sympathiser of the Catholic Church and her immensely beautiful and powerfully symbolic rituals and traditions. Stay Blessed. :)
@@fonzaug3355 I appreciate your reply, never looked into Orthodox differences from Catholic Chruch, will look into it. Yes, I feel at home in Catholic church it is just beautiful. Stay Blessed as well brother :)
Mary is not my mother. Mary was a sinful Hebrew girl who was chosen to bare the son of God. She is not divine. She sleeps in her grave awaiting the resurrection.
@@weegeelana8523 it doesn't say in the Bible that Mary is the mother of us all. In fact Jesus said "who is my mother? Who is my brother? Those who do the will of my Father."
Bravo. No unnecessary homilizing in this film, and as far as I can see a duly diligent attention to historical facts - the number on Kolbe's uniform, the apparently accurate use of red triangles sewn onto the uniforms of Kolbe and his fellow-prisoners. Today is a big day in 2023, being Saint Maximilian Kolbe's feast day in the General Roman Calendar, and the 82nd anniversary of his death. Saint Maximilian Kolbe, intercede for us.
@@sassycat6487How about you then? Don't tell me there haven't been situations where you didn't do anything to help someone. Are you the 'child of the devil'? No. There is no such thing. People do or don't do thing when they're afraid at the mercy of cruel people. But that's what makes them terrifying. They're people. Not monsters, not 'children of the devil', people.
We don't know that. But as catholics I think that we should have the hope that everyoke who sinned had the chance of repend ando convert to God. Maybe in heaven we will meet with that commander and we all will be able to talk about our own convertion
@@samanthamedina3932 Repent? I have read of mystical people that Hitler is in hell.Besides, I really don't weigh that Hitler ever repented.Besides, he also committed suicide.
The true definition of heroism. A brave and noble person thinking only of others who are in pain and despair. How sad that the word “hero” has been devalued to such an extent that nowadays it means a footballer who scores a goal that wins a football match. 😢
I'm a little lost in my faith, I'd say I feel more Jewish than Christian even though I was brought up in the Christian faith but Father Kolbe gave it all for Love and the Love of G.D.
IT TAKES A HEART TO BE MOVED AND DO SOMETHING FOR THE SUFFERING.ONLY OUR LORD JESUS CAN GIVE US SUCH A HEART.I AM HAPPY TO STATE THAT I AM PROUD TO BE CALLED 'HIS'❤❤❤❤❤
We are ALL brothers and sisters from each other. We are All Equal to each other. Kolbe, Knew he woul'd be protected by god our creator, source of anyone, anything and everything and he knew he would be picked up and brought home by god. He had total trust on our creator. An act of a very old soul. What Maximilian Kolbe did was an True act of Love for a brother. In this era we need more of these souls to save the world from hate. I thank him for his act but also realize there were many of these during the war.
The tour guide at the Birkenau told me that St. Maksymilian Kolbe stayed alive for longer than it would be possible under such conditions and didn't show his suffering until his last moments
I don’t know why I never knew about this story about this Catholic Priest 🥺 and I’ve been studying about the Holocaust and crimes against humanity, the Einsatzgruppen executions for decades since the early 90’s
The Cell in Auschwitz I where Father Kolbe died is still there and is considered a holy place. He actually survived longer than all of the other prisoners and was killed via lethal injection because it was taking too long. When I went there I had an opportunity to see where Saint Kolbe passed away.
@@tcofield1967 that’s truly amazing and just gut wrenching that you’ve gotten to visit Auschwitz I. Did you visit the entire camp ? I can’t wait to visit Poland and go visit Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec, Plaszow camps and walk by Amon Goethe’s villa and visit Krakow, Warsaw hopefully in 2024

Oops typo error ::: 500,000 souls in all... Not by my word, but Word of Most High himself...I try to emulate St Max Kolbe, but I am only a pale shadow....St Max Kolbe name is etched in YAD VASHEM, the tree of righteousness in Jerusalem.. He is one of the heroes whose name spread thru the Jewish communities after news of his sacrifice spread like wildfire....blessed be the clients of St Max Kolbe !!! Likewise in the Hamas-Israel war, many stories of heroes are emerging !!! Foreigners, Jews and Palestonians alike !!! Praise to God
i´m not an expert, but correct me, if im wrong: The right officer's cap is from the SS (skull), but he wears collar tabs from the Wehrmacht, to be precise from the infantry of this one. The shoulder pieces are also missing. And all of this takes place in an occupied area, far behind the front, which is why there should be actually no panic and no confusion with the uniforms.
So the arresting SS guys (indicated by the skull at the head) had no shoulder pieces. The first guy had no collar tabs at all, but the second had those of the Wehrmacht. This "Kommandant" seems to have the shoulder pieces of a major but the collar tab of a lieutenant (Wehrmacht equivalent of the SS rank). He has an blank green sleeve band. The only green SS-sleeve band was for "East Turkish Waffenverband of the SS". No commandant of Auschwitz was ever commander of an SS foreigner unit afaik. The medal appears to be the service award of the NSDAP, which was only permitted as a ribbon on the small medal bar or in this type on the big medal bar over the breast pocket. In 1941 I don't think that wearing a swastika arm band within the uniform code. Praise to Kolbe though!
you do not have to be a catholic , to see that character is measured by the price ,...... of what we choose ... to hold on to ,......and what we sacrifice ,.......for the sake of love bless him . .
St Max Kolbe is one of my 21 patron saints + Virgin Mary + St Joseph + St Gertrude the Great...24 in all !!! I am such a bad Catholic I need 24 intercessors in all !!! Hee hee I have surrendered all my Plenary Indulgences to the Virgin Mary....to give away as she pleases !!! Not boasting here but my 24 patron saints have helped me release from Purgatory/save earthly souls from damnation.. Just saying and giving glory God
I am glad to say that I have been saved by grace alone, through faith alone, by Jesus alone, as revealed in scripture alone, to the glory of God alone.
In the graphic novel Maus by art Spiegelman when his Vladek father first came to Auschwitz he was crying, and in despair, a Catholic priest came up to him. And using his number is on his arm, convinced him, he would survive this, and he said this brought him a new life within him as his number is total 18 the Hebrew number of life. And whenever things went bad later, he looked his arm and said yes, the priest was right. It tolls 18.
Absolutely very difficult to watch knowing that a very small percentage of who went into those death camps never made it back but otherwise, highly recommended to watch.
