Justine Hardy, youngest daughter of the late Robert Hardy CBE, introduces a selection of personal family items being offered for sale at Dominic Winter Auctioneers on Thursday 8th March 2018.
I'm a great admirer of the late, great Robert Hardy, not just because of his talent as an actor - his uniquely punctillious strength of expression,, but how he always managed to articulate a quintessential kind of Englishness in everything the public saw him in. There just aren't any actors of that kind of charisma any more it seems.
What an honor to be introduced to a few of his passions by his daughter. I am not surprised one bit that he was a craftsman and highly motivated. I'm watching All Creatures right now and am so enjoying his incredible performance. His work will last forever.
Robert Hardy did a fine job in raising his daughter - Justine is lovely and offering a wonderful remembrance of this wonderful and kind man. I was astounded at the low value of the items - that family sofa which was so gorgeous, tasteful and elegant and kind of an heirloom piece, should have been worth so much more. Thank you Justine for this peek into your family's world. Justine has a tremendous, huge and natural smile - Mr. Hardy did a fine job.
I watched the series for years. I loved him as Siegfried. The whole cast. It was so refreshing & relaxing. He was excellent in all of his roles of the years. Bless you sir.
As a kid I grew up in awe at Robert's wonderful acting skills, even at a young age I was able to acknowledge the seriousness and dedication to the character he was playing.
Thank you for this pre-auction video. Self deprecating in a very English manner, I think he always underestimated not only his talent, but his personal impact. I love still to listen to him speak and have watched many interviews where it is a pure and simple pleasure to listen to him speak the words of the English language. What a gift to us all he was. One does experience a twinge of sadness that any of his belongings must be sold away from the family. I think we do understand there are no doubts a myriad of reasons that occurred. if anything is to be gleaned here it is that life is indeed brief. This lovely man sees to have lived his gift of life to the fullest. Thank you once again for sharing. We, his fans, all miss him....
Robert Hardy was a wonderful actor, I first remember seeing him as Prince Hal and Henry V in the BBC's production of An Age Of Kings back in the early '60's. Marvellous performances!
How lovely to see you! I loved your father and have such lovely memories of my own childhood, watching All creatures great and small with mum and dad,we all loved it!! He was a wonderful actor and has left a tremendous legacy! Thank you for sharing!
Of course I loved ACGS, but my earliest and fondest memory of him was in Elizabeth R. In fact when I first saw that famous Tudor portrait of Robert Dudley many years later, I was absolutely shocked at the resemblance. RIP Robert Hardy.
I well remember the great BBC documentary of Robert Hardy lecturing on medieval archery, a subject in which he was an expert. Never been able to track it down on DVD.
His personality and humour came through in creatures great and small he was such a lovely caring man I believe it was the perfect part for him he is greatly missed and admired.
OH God! Don't sell his things!!! Why not open a small museum? About his acting.. His interests... His weapons... His Art... I would pay to go and visit the museum...
Yes, I feel slightly stunned that these things would be sold. Especially that lovely couch, and for such a low expected price. Why on earth not hang on to it, if it meant so much. Sad
