I know this is a long one, so I appreciate you all watching! This is a really important one to me and easily one of my most fav videos I’ve created so far! Thank you all again! More content coming soon!🖤
Great coverage, Cris! Thanks for all the in depth work you put into this. In the day and time we we live in I hope people realize that we can't go back to this way of thinking. We have come too far to go back!
Hi Cris! Quick question 🙋🏼♀️ Can I have the name of the books you were reading please! Recent subscriber here and just starting watch you & Jay! Love the channel 🖤❤️
You did an incredible job, Cris! It's clear you are passionate about this, and you inspired me to read more about this dark period in our history as well. I recently picked up the book, "The Witches: Salem 1692," by Pulitzer Prize-winning historical biographer Stacy Schiff, and I am looking forward to diving in and learning more. Peace to the souls whose lives were cut short. May they rest well in the Love of Goddess.
I enjoyed the shopping video and if I ever get to go to Salem I will definitely do some shopping, but the actual history and memorials and landmarks is what I've always been fascinated by. Great job!
I’m so glad that you went to Proctor’s Ledge. Not many people know about it but it’s super important. Rebecca Nurse’s son took a boat in the dead of night to that location to get her and bring her body home. So thankful to the scholars and researchers who poured over countless documents and maps and were able to confirm that location. What a great video, Cris! I’m local to the area and I love when people look beyond the shops and touristy things and see the history behind it all. It’s so important to keep telling their stories. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your video. I am a descendant of Rebecca Nurse (9 times great aunt) and her sister, Mary Eastey (9 times great grandmother). I am awaiting a sweatshirt that I found (and needed to get) for the past few weeks that states “1692. They missed one.” This in honor of my direct ancestors. I appreciate your coverage.❤❤❤
@@bretcantwell4921 Woosh!! That is the whole message and point of the shirt. They WERE NOT WITCHES, and neither am I. They missed a descendent of non-witches. It is sarcasm.
@@bretcantwell4921 Also not sure how the sisters are both GGMs of yours. They didn’t marry brothers, because Mary married an Eastey, and Rebecca married a Nurse. It is impossible for both of them to be your GGM. Please explain that, like you tried to mansplain the sarcastic t-shirt.
Hi Cris, I know how passionate you are about Salem, the trials of witch craft, the history of the innocence and the energy that drove you there. Personally, I think this trip was/is more meaningful to you and it shows sista! I appreciate All of it. Salem is more than a movie location of Hocus Pocus. You truly are, a gift. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. 💀🎃👻🕸️💅🏽
My husband is a history buff - masters degree - and knows the history of the Salem witch hunt. I was watching your video and he said after you finished your explanation of the background that you did a good job explaining it! That’s high praise coming from him!
So happy you visited Salem. My family came to this country and settled there. My ancestor John Alden, was accused as a witch. He escaped to Boston. Love it there! There is a secret bathroom in Rockafella’s restaurant. Very cool!Haunted as well!
As a local (I live in Beverly and my husband's ancestors were part of the founding of Marblehead and Beverly), I just wanted to say you did a GREAT job in this video! If you haven't already picked it up, you should also read "A Storm of Witchcraft" by Emerson Baker. He's a professor at Salem State University and one of the foremost Salem Witch Trials authorities. There is a class at Endicott College in Beverly about the trials, which I just finished up this past spring, which deeply explored the history of witchcraft accusations and the environment that these early settlers existed in - as well as their relationship to God and the Devil, which was VERY real to them. You did a wonderful job explaining the history and really delving into the reasons behind these tragedies. And, just to be helpful - Peabody is pronounced "PEA-biddy". :) I hope you enjoy(ed) your visit to our beautiful area and thank you for doing such great research into the history of the trials and sharing it!
I noticed that pronunciation too😂. We just say ‘PB’ now. My friends that visit from Dartmouth, MA say PEE-BODY too, so it is really one of things you have to be here to pick up😵💫
Just absolutely horrific. This tragedy really serves as a reminder of the cruelty of human nature. May the victims always be remembered and may they rest in peace 😢
I'm from North East Mass and know the area well. But everdently not all of it's history, never even heard of Salem Village. Your details of the event and all it's players was very impressive. You painted a picture of what it was like to go through during this moment in time. Very well done.👏👏👏
Rebbeca Nurse was my many time Great grand aunt. You did better explaining yhings and had more information than other videos have. You did very well! Thank you❤❤
I really believe that this video was extremely informative and will never look at the Salem's witch trials the same again your video was a very humbling experience and it touched my heart, rest in peace all the people that went through that horrific experience. And Cris
Humans as a whole can be easily influenced by only a few. Something we need to keep in mind at all times. RIP to all the innocent people , and I am happy that they are remembered.
Agreed! It feels like one presidential candidate is trying to create a witch hunt for many..and religion blurring with state..fueling "us vs them" again. Fueling a fire of division that led to horrors such as in Salem.
Your documentary is very much appreciated! I am a descendant of Susannah Martin, and I truly appreciate all the research you did and the time you spent making this. May all the victims rest in peace.
This is probably the best vlog that you have ever created. The amount of time, research, heart & soul that you poured into this video doesn’t go unnoticed! I thought I knew a lot of about the Salem Witch Trials, because it was something very intriguing to me, I realized I didn’t know as much as I thought. I appreciate that you gave names and the history behind those names. I’ve been up to MA so much, but next time, we need to go Salem Village. I hope one day you can go back during Halloween time because I’ve heard from friends that have been that it’s pretty incredible. You did do it justice! RIP to all 🧹
Wow that was a lot compacted into this video. Very interesting. Hard to understand how we as humans could be so cruel to each other. Thanks for all the info and and the video with all the places these things happened.
As a history major who studied this subject in college and has written on the subject, great job!! You hit on many of the key points, land, wealth and women acting outside of what was expected. The Devil in the Shape of a Woman is a great source of information.
Cris, terrific job with this video! I appreciate your synopsis of this part of American history. You are so lucky to have Tampa J by your side. I enjoyed living vicariously through you both. Safe travels.
Honestly Chris this was one of the best videos I've ever seen on you tube, comparable to something on the history channel but more down to earth. Excellent!❤
My Great(x10)Grandmother,Isabel Babson, landed in Salem from England,in 1637 with a little baby and a dead husband, laid her roots down here(Salem),moved to Gloucester, and to make a long story short, our part of the family`s up here on the Downeast coast of Maine.........Thanx for the episode.......
Unrelated, around 57:32 there is a beautiful ripple through the vines on the left, caused by the breeze. Thank you for this comprehensive historical experience. I visited Salem for the first time just over the weekend, and we mainly stayed in former Salem Town, did not venture out to Danvers. I know a lot more now for my next trip~
Well if your neighbors wanted your land, they can accuse you of being a witch...later aquire the property. Now as adults, and things we've all seen going on lately, land grab ideas is very possible. Certainly wasn't mentioned in school.
That is a myth. While the constable was able to confiscate personal property to pay for prisoners, accusers had no right to claim the real estate of an accused. The real estate of the executed men was passed to their son. For married women, the property remained in their husband's name, or had been previously passed on to sons when the husband died leaving with
Kris, by the time I was your age I was married and had already lost 3 babies and had 2 boys. I love my boys more than anything but all 3 babies I lost were girls. If I would have had one of my girls I wish she would have been just like you. You are the most beautiful person (inside and out). I have just started watching videos on RU-vid, you are my favorite. I have fallen in love with you and Tampa Jay. You are the cutest couple ever. He definitely loves you. I can see it in every video. I was so worried about the both of you traveling in the weather so I was so glad you came back early. I know how the weather is in Florida, I live in Palm Beach. You did such an amazing job with your road trip videos. Please remember what an amazing person you are and never listen to the mean people they are just jealous. Stay strong, stay true to yourself and remember you are so very adorable.
My 10th ggmother was Sarah Bassett (sister of Elizabeth Bassett Proctor) and her grandmother (my 12th ggmother) was Ann Burt. Ann was a midwife/healer (also she was accused of being a witch/but somehow escaped punishment). Before I found out about this family history, I'd always felt called to the Boston area but was never sure why. (I'm born and raised in Texas for 4 generations) My ancestors (The Burt/Bassetts) emigrated from England some time between 1630-1670 and they settled in Lynn,Mass. (The biggest irony to me is my married name is Proctor, but my partners family is NOT connected to the Proctor family of colonial Massachusetts.) If anybody has more information about Ann or Sarah, I'd love to learn about them more.
Hi Cris! I have lived in MA my whole life, and of course have been to Salem. I remember in 5th grade we did a whole month in history class on the Salem Witch Trials. Just wanted to tell you that this video was really well done and you kept my interest the entire time. Thank you for all of the time and work you put into this video.
The amount of research and care you put into this and shared with us beyond the touristy/shopping stuff is truly impressive. Thankyou. Happy Halloween season.
Cris -Thank You ! Your video is well thought out and informative. I now have a better understanding of this dark time and will be reading the books you have suggested. All the Very Best to You and Tampa Jay. Thank You for sharing your passion !
Great video, Cris! So many focus only on the fun tourist aspects without looking at the dark history and respectfully acknowledging the victims who were unjustly taken away from their families way too soon. I booked my first "mommy and me" Salem trip with my teenager for next summer, and while we do plan on doing some fun activities we're also planning on doing some historical activities to remember those who were victimized by their own townsfolk.
Cris! Absolutely love the video ! Full of history but rich with the knowledge of the past and your enthusiasm giving us the facts. Enjoy learning about these things. Very interesting! I appreciate all your efforts creating this content😊
Three Sovereigns for Sarah is EXTENSIVE miniseries from PBS and highly recommended you want more details about Salem trials, it’s insane what went on and what led up to these deaths, the mini series has actual transcripts from the trials!!!! Great video Cris 👍🏻
Loved the video. ❤Thanks for the time, the heart, and the effort you put on this video. I ❤ Salem and the history. I support witches and their business 👍
I learned so much from you today. I never knew the woman we older or property owners. The tree at the memorial spot is one of my favorite trees. The ginkgo tree's fan-shaped leaves are said to symbolize yin and yang, and the tree is known as "the tree of youth". It is one of the oldest living trees.
It was a truly great video!!! Love all the details and facts and stories and the actual places as your telling the stories! I felt like I was back in time. We are having a rolling thunderstorm as I'm watching your video and it just was so cool!!!
Lovely presentation, Cris and Tampa. Thank you. Your videos always do my heart a-good. For the victims, we give hommage. Blessings upon blessings to you both.
I agree TampaJay getting a whole different perspective and understanding from the information you learned about Salem witch trials history. Well done,Cris the Girl! Safe travels to you both on your next adventure ❤️
Thank you so much for this informative video. So interesting. They killed witches here in Sweden, too! I think Salem is known all over the world. Especially if you are a witch too 😅 and are interested in history.
Wow; I loved this so much! The research, thought and time you put into this video is apparent. I really appreciated it! I'm a new subscriber; been binge watching. This is my favorite video of yours by far ❤
Hi there! I'm new to your channel and just wanted to pop by and thank you for this marvellous video. I scurried off to buy the books you recommended and can't wait to read them myself. Your respect and determination to tell the story was incredible and made the video so special and touching. Can't wait to watch your - and your fiancé's- other videos. Take care both ♡ Qxx
Hi, Cris!!! I stumbled accorss your channel only because I had recently been looking into the Salem Witch trials. It was about 2 months ago that I discovered that I am related to Susanna North, and wanted to learn more about her. She was hung alongside Rebecca Nurse at the Gallows. She is my 11th great Aunt. I am appreciating the fact that you are diving into the reality of the times. Very Tragic. Thanks for Sharing.
Thanks so much, Cris :) You did a great job with your research, background, and history of the Salem area. I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed Salem as well and when I went into the Witch Museum, I remember thinking it was a giant Diorama :) The whole area was interesting... Keep up the good work
Rebecca Nurse is my 10th great grandmother and Susannah Martin is a step great grandmother I'm related to her husband George Martin who was one of the first founders of Amesbury. Rebecca was his second wife. I'm so proud of them all because they were not going to lie so they could live, they all were very brave, God bless them may they be at rest ✝❤ Thank you Cris for sharing. I love living here in New England (Rhode Island)
Hi Cris, I waited to watch so I could sit and listen quietly. I knew it would be informative. Thank you for all the information and showing that there was so much more to the people of that era and what was behind all the accusations. This is definitely a place I will visit. Thank you so much. Nicely done. Blessed be.
Hi Cris ❤ love your videos really . I love not only hearing your voice , your tone is really friendly and melodic , but also the way you speak, the words you use! I feel hearing a person that knows about what is taking. Congratulations ! Nice job from Salem 😅I loved your first video about shopping but also this one, is a great balance ❤ looking forward what is coming
I appreciate you. I appreciate this video. So many Salem videos exist with people going to "have fun" and do shopping trips and "salem hauls" which is all fine and fun-I also know you have those videos, too (and I, myself would love to galvant around salem some day) but not enough of them hold reverence and respect to the innocent lives lost and the absolute horrors that occurred there. It's important for us to balance the fun while remembering the harsh truth. The witch wound is deep in my soul, so from one woman to another, thank you.
I’m a lifelong resident of northeast MA so I know this history well. In fact, one of the judges for the trials, Nathanial Saltonstall, was living in my city (Haverhill) and he resigned from the trial and refused to take part and probably kept my city out of the hysteria just by doing so. I grew up learning about this stuff and it’s so incredible that it all happened right here.
I'm from the UK and have been delving into my family history. Susannah Martin is one my maternal grandfather's side as a distant cousin. Blew me my small mind that I could have any ties to the Salem Witch Trials as a brit.
Talk about injustice! Those poor people. Our day is certainly ridiculous but atleast nothing like that. Terror is what fueled that whole thing. It took away all logic ending innocent lives.
Enjoyed your deep dive. It’s such a fascinating subject. It’s kind of ironic that practicing witches are drawn to Salem now and all the witchy shops … yet the people who were accused of witchcraft and were killed there at the time were likely not witches. You and Tampa Jay compliment each other so well. I lived in Tampa area many years but now live in Ohio.
I went to Salem for the first time a month ago! Such a cool, interesting place. Shoutout to Pentagram Shoppe which i caught a glimpse of in the background! I absolutely love that shop.
Thank you so much Cris for this incredibly informative video. You hit the nail on the head, the roots of this tragedy lie in greed, politics and judgemental intolerance preying on the vulnerable and disenfranchised. I wish these were issues that were confined to be late 1600s and the human nature had evolved since then, but the story is more relevant now than ever with modern extremism and intolerance. May we learn from our past so we don't repeat it in the future.
There is an awesome documentary about what happened on top of the hill where the memorial is now, the one behind Walgreens… Really worth checking it out ;-) it took them years and years to find it!
Enjoy listening to the history of Salem Very interesting we would love to visit and learn more about the witch trial . Brilliant how you explained about what happened.we are in England and we will definitely visit one day .
Cris, you gave a lot of good information about the people that were hanged and those who contributed to their hangings. All of the 13 colonies had meeting houses, they all have plaques or explanations of when they arrived. When the first towns were set up the most important person in the towns were the ministers. Putnam is a town name in CT and I went to school with a Putnam.
Cris, this is hands down one of your best videos. I do know bits and pieces about the names and some of the situations that were related to the victims. The locations were absolutely fascinating. I have not stopped to visit Salem . We drove through once about 25 years ago, and I fully intend to get back there. I do remember feeling a heaviness I couldn’t explain just passing through. Such sadness, and a history that needs to be repeated over and over to generations. Thank you so much for putting yourself out there with in-depth research and respect. You and Jay are the best!
You did such a great job. I learned things I didn’t know about the town Danvers. I thought it all took place in the town Salem. Thank you for showing us all of this you did a great job. Really enjoyed this!! 🎃🎃🐈⬛✨
Cris, FYI Gaol is the old English way of spelling jail. Really well done video and fabulous research. BTW - Phillip English is one of my ancestors. Well, one of my ancestors brothers.
Great job Cris the girl.very interesting and informative video.its kind of cool to more information on Salem witch trials..grest video such dark and interesting history.
