I'm celtics fan I saw this after watching the 86 banner documentary, why didnt the rockets keep holding off the lakers ?

@@ericsigersmith6067 Injuries to Sampson and off court issues with other players. The Rockets lost like 2 or 3 starters with only Olajuwon left to hold the team up. Hakeem eventually got 2 chips in the 90s, but it makes you wonder if the 1986 team stayed together they would have been a continuing threat to the Lakers.

I was a teenager watching this in Houston at an apartment. It was almost midnight in Houston and when ralph made that shot I yelled at the top of my lungs that the neighbor called to see if we were ok

A Celtics fan, I was 17 years old and stayed up til about 1am Boston time, to watch this game hoping the Lakers would pull it off because I so desperately wanted to see the '86 Celtics take them down. I sat stunned when he made that shot and was so pissed off. Beating the Rockets win the '86 title was just so anti-climactic.

@@Biggrittz I remember in the interview IN 87. Magic said that they wanted HOUSTON rather than SEATTLE to face in the WCF.. I would want to watch that rematch between LAKERS-ROCKETS in 87 WCF.. but THE SONICS have other ideas

@@mrboo3049 True, to be fair. Sonics were going to beat a team built around Sampson as a main option then he gets hurt. If you Make 87 rockets more like 86 they will kill those sonics. that sonics team in 87 was not very strong compared to powerhouses in west. - Big reason why somewhat weaker 87 lakers swept them. but stronger 86 lakers fell to healthy rockets in 5.

Clyde is my favorite player but there was a reason he went 14th in the draft. He was a gifted athlete but could not shoot. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jack ramsey he developed his game and became the super star we all know. But coming out of college all he was a very athletic prospect

The Basketball HOF isn’t for just NBA players. Sampson had a great college career. That’s why he’s in the hall of fame.

Brilliant game by the twin towers, Olajuwon and Sampson. Both did very good to eliminate the Lakers.
