7:22 would not say that traditional samurai armour became obsolete after the portuguese came with their armour since those kind of armour were never mass produced in japan in favor of japanese style. Moust of the nanban gusoku (evropean armours) were not really used in combat but rather seen as exotic or symbol of wealth. Japanese produced very resistant armours on their own after guns came to japan called Tameshi gusoku (bullet tested armour). But over all very well said and nice video. ; )
Nobunaga couldn't really use his three thousand arquebuses at Nagashino, the guns and gunpowder got wet because of bad weather. His forces used effectively only about five hundred during the battle itself.
Great history lesson. Was there also a name for Chinese swords? Cause I’ve notice from the live action Mulan movie, different details comparing them from Japanese and European swords 🗡.
Thank you for the video but of this list the only 3 I do not like are the Kanabo, Naginata & Tanegashima. I don't like a couple others that are not on the list also
Yari. Naginata mostly fell out of favour for the samurai by the time of the sengoku jidai and was only mainly used by monks and house women for defense.
The samurai themselves preferred the yari and abandoned the naginata during the Sengoku period, so the answer lies there. Later, Miyamoto Musashi also wrote in his Book of Five Rings that the yari is better than the naginata, more effective for battle formations.
My teacher by the name of ionță has got to be the dumbest man alive He told me he watched a tom cruise movie and he saw the samurai had no rifles cause of an honor code
