there's actually a lore reason for them too haha. Basically the necromancer created sentient minions (the elites) in order to have them be stronger, and they are stronger, but they also trash talk and unionize.
A crazy thing I discovered last night is that Merris' Legendary Malady passes status effects from a killed enemy onto another unaffected enemy …so if you have Reprisal when you get it, the final gigantic wave of enemies basically ALL get perma-stunlocked en masse.
I have been playing an _absurd_ amount of this game since seeing you play it last time. With controller, I mapped Dash to L1 & Interact to R1, and it's _SO much nicer_ to play that way. (Also there's fun lore about the mouthy skeleton, why the armored guys sound like coke cans when they die, and other fun stuff on bosses that you can pick up from bookshelves around the map). For my most effective build: Use Merris and unlock the Sign of Timrspace (when using it, it gives infinite XP magnet, -1 dash, 30% faster dash cooldown). With that enabled, just keep moving through the map towards anything you can grab by checking the minimap. Once you have some gear with Alteration Dice, try to go for Time, Mort, & Justice. Time's Attack (Warped Strike) & Mort's Dash (Lifelink) as well as the Divine Shield from Justice & Splinter from the Fates are the first priorities. (When you're locked to your 3 gods, having a lot of Alteration Dice makes it easier to swap and land on the Fates for their buffs. Banish Dice seem mostly useless). Time's Gem High spell will allow you to absolutely rocket across the map as you get XP, so thats good to grab early on. Mort's Soulstealer summons deal %-based damage and Time can boost summon damage, so just load up on those, as well as her Skeletons & Ravens, and Time's Force & Gem High. Then the XP shards will be chasing you across the map AND speeding up your movement and attack… Mort's Execution will be generating even more XP shards on things you kill that are cursed, which synergises with Time's Wisdom XP boost. Time's splintered Attack are mostly to block projectiles and proc effects, so leveling them up varely matters. It will bounce all around enemies and get the XP shards to come from all around bosses. All of this makes Time's Force ability which will weaponize XP deal an utterly *_INSANE_* amount of damage. (It usually tops 700k on all my runs, with Soulstealers coming in at about 600k, and everything else is FAR behind those). If you luck into the Legendary of Vampirism with Mort (nullifies your armor, heals 3 per hit), Time's bouncing attack with multiple projectiles makes you nearly immortal, especially when combined with the various protections from Justice. Time also has a legendary that deals % based damage to everything on the map, and Justice has one that can level up your whole equipment loadout. I've just been doing runs on +10 difficulty and collecting gear so that I have everyone stocked up on full Mythic or Unique gear (including a relic that lets me fight with an Onyx Dragon, and boots to give me an extra Dash). Even before I was kitted out, I've not died _once_ in the 30+ runs I've tackled with that setup, and it's got it so that I can run any of the characters with really cool gear and different tactics. Some of the Unique Gear is non-Mythic but have REALLY cool abilities, so keep an eye out on those (like a pair of gloves for Skadi that can proc all 5 status effects, which is one of her quests). It seems like they have plans to get some additional levels and things in the future (the difficulty adjusting screen has controls to change levels but theres just the one currently), so I expect it'll be worth keeping an eye on. Been _REALLY_ loving this the most of the bullet heaven type games that I've tried out recently.
If you ever see the Lightning God upgrade where moving causes lightning bolts to strike down, grab it! It's better than you think! Also health regen is always a must take.
the thing I've found is a big part of dealing with slimes and other hordes is turning the autoaim/autofire off and just walking away sometimes because you move so much faster when you aren't attacking
That along with Split from the Fates, and Vampirism from Mort makes you nearly unkillable. Time, Mort, & Justice are by _far_ my favourite combo so far.
There’s some pretty wild stuff in the game. I haven’t made it much farther than Tom yet, only to the next boss after the necromancer, but I did find a sword for the knight that summons a dragon to fight for me. Found in a reliquary chest I think?
From what I've found so far, the Onyx Dragon, Green Parrot, & Skeleton Army all seem like they can show up on various items with a low % chance. Just luck of the draw unless it's listed as a "Unique" on the item. For example, The Skeleton Army has a unique book relic that gives you 8 of them, whereas I got a ring last night that has them, but only gives 4. I assume that means each of those other summoned creatures has a unique item version, but not sure yet.
Once you kill enough monsters you will unlock character perks. One of the mage's is a single dash, but unlimited pickup radius for experience drops. This means you get ALL the experience from the map, powerleveling along the way, so you can focus moving in one direction and grab all the shrine bonuses. It's a bit tricky with just one dash charge, but if you stack up evasion and health regen you're on a good way to beat the (currently) final boss. Also, good equipment helps a lot! I'd recommend sticking to the mage class and spend money for the best equipment for her, and then use her to farm more items/money to equip other characters.
I was getting pretty bored of survivor-likes (or whatever the name of the genre is), but man this one is honestly really enjoyable to watch, its clear theyve put a ton of effort into it with the voice actors, animated sprites etc.
I've been loving this game. Some really fun builds with her are stacking upgrades to increase number of projectiles with shurikens. Welcome to chug city! The lifeline dash upgrade is also super OP
This is certainly a unique survivorslike. Played it through a few times. Really gear dependent. It doesn't feel like you can really combine and strategise with the choices being given. In the end you always end up with some kind of hybrid attack/spell thing or it doesn't work out and all the classes are just a slightly different shape of melee AoE cone (apart from the one ranged character). Not sure how to feel about it. Was fun for a while though.
I just finished a run with the mage with gear with plusses to summon damage. Also rolled a legendary ability called vamparism, +3 health recovered every hit. It was so much fun and my horde of skeletons and ravens decimated the final boss to the point I didn't even hit him myself and just let them do all the work.
Enjoying the Death Must Die gameplay! The assassin is pretty fun, I play it more like a wizard and it can get pretty wacky, but I like playing Skadi (the Highlander character) more. FYI, If you stop attacking you can run faster.
the shrines tom.... pleeaaassee..... they're so OP and you can just focus them because there's magnet shrines so you can pick up all the xp anyways. They're soooo good, like 100% increased damage, more master offers, revival etc etc. They make your builds sooooo infinitely better than just levels. You can get like 30 of them
I bought this after your first video, song with 20 mins till dawn If you get the dash drain life spell, the bosses just become an exercise in timing dodges and you always hit them 😄😄. Took me several runs but i did get a full successful run
Just a few quick tips for those who struggle in this game: - Play to your character's strengths. So if you're playing a high attack speed character, slam attack speed and on-hit abilities. If you're playing a ranged character, take spell damage and long ranged abilities/cc to keep your enemies away from you. - Health Regen is pretty meh until you get large portions of it. Combine that with regenerating a percentage of an attack that hit you and you're good to make it at least until the Necromancer. - The Necromancer shotguns his fireballs, so if you wait for him to cast and dash in for a quick couple attacks then back out, you can reliably stay relatively safe. - Items are really good, but stats vary wildly, so you're gonna have to do a little bit of reading to decide on whether to pick them up or leave them on the floor.
I’d love to see more of this game! I really think you’ve finally found the optimal rouge-like survivor-like game. And it even seem to have an actual story and a way to win. I think you should try to beat this game!
Mort, lady of justice and the war god are the best combo to get. Time is alright. Summer, Frost and Lightning are all bad. As for summons, don't take necromancy, the skeletons aren't worth it, but the ravens of pestilence is however worth it. As for the attack modifier, don't ever take a novice one always fish for adept or higher. And in general don't focus that much on killing enemies, just kill those that get in your way in between POI's. POI's are important as they can buff you greatly, just as en example, there's a tree that makes it so that all level up rolls are expert and only expert, and early game that's very powerful
I think it says it in the tooltips and the inventory but luck = multiplier for chance based abilities/items. So Luck with those chains is really helpful for example. I rate luck very highly because of that but of course that's personal taste. Also, if you press alt like it says at the bottom it tells you what specific abilities to when you're picking them, like what smite, weakened, rupture, ect do.
Hey Tom, grabbed this coz of you and its such fun! I think you might enjoy the Time gods main weapon chane onthe sorcoress, makes it bounce, home a little and gets more xp out of enemies, its wild if you get additional projectiles.
8:29 Correct. Stacking Krom's buff against those got me to the point of three-hitting shield monsters with the barbarian character you haven't seen yet.
so after playing the game a bit... the tl;dr - get mort, justice, krom (or lightning/fate) and you just focus on defense while mort does percentage health damage with phantasms until you have actual items to do stuff because until that point you're just kinda hoping for a good run and mort carries you so hard when you lack actual items to make builds
Same here. My last run last night, I got to the Baron and got clipped by one of the summoned skeletons _RIGHT_ before the end because I was out of dashes.
It's normally the blue slimes or fast ghosts that get me. I was doing a summon build with Merris as that was recommended, but I found I do better with the Highlander.
@@CoreyKaha While you'll need some luck, I found out at the VERY end of another that Mort's Legendary ability Malady also spreads the Stun status effect from Justice's Reprise, so that might be a strategy to keep in mind if the mobs are giving you trouble.
Thanks for the tip. I got one legendary the other day which was a frost dragon, I got it early in the run and it was amazing, the damage output was insane. Sadly one of the fast mobs hit me still. I like the different buffs you get from Time as well, they can be fun.
@@CoreyKaha Happy to help! Summer has a Fire Dragon, but I haven't seen a Frost one yet! I _JUST_ pulled off my no-hit run with Merris (and I was on difficulty 10 because I forgot to turn it off). • Time's Attack (leveling/upgrading it doesn't matter much). Get Gem High & Force (level as you can). • Mort's Dash, along with Soulstealers, Execution (level a bit) & Malady. • Justice's Divine Shield & Reprieve (both as high as you can) • Fates: Splinter (as soon as you can) & then attack speed after. It essentially creates a wall to block projectiles that chains through anything else. I have the advantage that I'm running gear with the Onyx Dragon from a relic and 4 Skeletons from a ring to help generate XP off screen to make Force even better, and a staff that gives 2 extra bounces per projectile. Trying to pick arenas for the boss fights that have a big statue or column helps in blocking Dracula's attacks. (Sadly at least at the moment, the Ghost Trophy isn't something that appears in the area like the others). Best of luck!!
1st round, took a bunch of cool down reduction but no cool downs. Second round was annoyed at short range of attacks, refused to take any ranged spells, fire breath would have been amazing

I think this game looks really good! I kinda wish Tom would stop automatically just stacking the same upgrade though, I'd like to see more attack variety.
Tom, I feel like you get tunnel visioned into picking skills you already have even if an other option is probably better or more useful in the long run. Edit: I made this comment a few seconds before the video finished and boy did that final screen confirm what I said in a major way. The amount of times you picked that Reprisal skill was just baffling.
Its abit more pixelated but tom or anyone else reading this maybe check out Cultivation Story: Reincarnation, i had a blast with it personally. I have other games somewhat like it that i can recommend but ill spare you.
Just had to reply and say that its aesthetic and theme may not be for you thiugh and some of the mechanics while straightforward to me may be a little harder to wrap your head around because of the terminology for some things but otherwise its easy enough to apply prior general knowledge of games like Death Must Die, Vampire survivors or holocure etc.
Please stop playing bullet heaven games, I have to buy them and play then myself because it's so painful to watch. For this one; focus one or two characters to start with, higher tier skill bonuses are great, krom and Mort are awesome, you can only get blessings from three deity's, and prioritise getting as many shrines as possible over killing early on.
