If your goal is to lose weight, the scale is the ultimate measurement as it does one thing, measure your weight. I agree that it's important to have patience and develop better habits. The scale is an excellent tool to measure the effects of those changes. I've been obese. My words come from experience. I've made poor food choices and witnessed the consequences the next day on the scale. Those numbers have helped me remain accountable to myself for my choices.
People's goal is to lose fat. Weight is bones, water, muscle etc. The scale is never going to accurately tell you how much fat you gained from a bad day eating. Most people think they gain 3-5 lbs of fat from one bad decision but that would require an excess of 10,500- 17,500 calories on top of whatever they would need to maintain. That water weight from a bad meal can take days and days to come off. Accountability is better found in your actions.
