Wonderful explanation! I just had to say, I love your hands. Most women in these type videos have perfectly manicured nails and pristine hands. Yours show the reality of a woman who has USED her hands. Here's to many more years of creative "use".
redhorserider2 I guess I missed those. Most sewing vids are presented by women who look like they've just tumbled out of bed and never even washed their hands much less manicured them. Give me the lovely hands of jennie or donna or leah. It is difficult to learn quilting while trying not to throw up!
I can't tell you how wonderful I think your videos and books are! This is simple, concise and so important. I have made so many quilts that didn't line up for this very reason!!!!!
Thanks Donna! I've had to come back and view your great tips again! It works well and I check my machine and seams regularly.... I use a stack of painters tape!
Thank you Donna! Your video is the best, clear, straightforward and you included instructions to test the results and demonstrated why it's needed. AWESOME! I'm going to try this method! Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I COULD HUG YOU TOO! Anna from Manitoba
Thank you, this simple video was what I needed, your camera angle is good, explanation clear and concise. I watched several with bad angles that did not truly allow me to see what they were doing. This really helped with the paper and the line and dot.
Thank you so much for explaining the How-and-Why of the scant quarter seam. I have heard this turn used for many, many years, but never understood this procedure, at all. Now I do understand thanks to your explanation. Can't wait to view the other two videos that you mentioned in this video. Have a fabulous 2015.
I taught myself how to sew and quilt so I have watched MANY videos and have never commented on one but I wanted to let you know this is the BEST explanation I have seen on this! I don't like relying on the quarter inch foot and after all this time I now know how to properly do it (I prefer the traditional standard foot.) Thank you for taking the time for your videos:)
Oh my gosh! I have been teaching beginning for over 15 years. I don't know how I have missed this. The very BEST video on the 1/4 seam I have ever seen and will definitely recommend to my students--no matter what level :]
EXCELLENT VIDEO TUTORIAL. That was so well detailed and an EASY TO FOLLOW STEP BY STEP AND WELL EXPLAINED. 👍👍👍 The scant made the difference. I will stick my long post-it block as a guide. Thanks for sharing and caring.
Your video came up in my recommended feed and I'm so glad I watched it. I've been striving for more accurate piecing, especially since I have delved into miniature quilts. I gave you a thumbs up and have subscribed. Clear instruction and to the point.
Hi, I am so glad I watched your video. I am sewing a log cabin quilt and I was trimming every time I sewed on a piece, after measuring and placing a guide as per your instructions, well I haven't trimmed any of the edged for any of my remaining squares. Thank you so much for your help.
Thank you so much for explaining the scant 1/4" seam! I am fairly new to quilting and have had problems with the accuracy of this seam. Every tiny bit off of 1/4" can turn into a big problem. I will use a quarter inch marker from now on to keep accurate! I wish you lived next door, bet you have lots of tips to share and they will be good ones!!
You are so right! a hair here, a hair there and a hair over there makes a lot if your quilt is big or has many pieces. The only thing that I have to say is that tape measures stretch over time, I only use transparent rulers. Thank you so much for this tip!
thankyou for confirming something I had realised after piecing pieces togeather... they do shrink. Will be making my seam allowances in the future bearing this in mind
thank you so much. I have been driving my self crazy not understanding what I was doing wrong... Now I don't feel so lost n like giving up.. Again Thank You
Also, if you are working with a quarter inch foot, you can move the needle over one space to the right to get that scant quarter inch seam. I attach a seam guide to the foot, so there is no need to use post-it notes or whatever else you use as a bumper guide. Thanks for your advice.
"scant" was explained & demonstrated well & easily -- was looking at your example at the end and see that I would have to cut the fabric correctly first or I guess the quarter inch will be off -- have to look for "how to cut" now.
Geesh, does this mean it's 1/32, very clear explanation, the best actually... Scant 1/4" drives me bonkers, but I get why it's important. Love you tutoring!
Thank you Donna for explaining the "Scant". Someone once told me I can move my needle postion over once with my new Bernina. Is this true? Happy Easter. Valerie
Thanks a lot I am a new quilter and this was the mistake I used to make all the time you video did help me but one thing I would like to know will the quilt rip after a few wash
