Its really crazy terrain out there man... I'm in the US and the closest we get to terrain like that is on ski resorts in the Rockies. We have a shitload of ski resorts out here but I can count on one hand how much have terrain anything like the Alps, and I'm just talking about similar style riding, not anything like those views out there! That being said, we have some pretty great tree/glade riding out here in North America. Checkout some videos from Whitefish Montana or Jay Peak!
@@tankmaster1018 the only place in north america that is as beautifull/beautifuller than the alps is lake louise. Thats some place I really want to visit
@@dewisselspeler9080 Hey dude, funny you say that! I have been trying to plan a Lake Louise trip for years now... If you were gonna go up there to ski/snowboard, what mountains would you visit during a week trip lets say?
My first ever experience of snowboarding in mountains was at 'St Anton' going from a local mellow slope in the U.K. to this was one hell of a way to learn quick! First day, first run, I got lost from my group in a white out at the top of the mountain. Sat on my ass alone, unable to board effectively, had no idea where I was or what a piste map was. As I sat there a helicopter flew in and airlifted a body bag right where I was sitting! I was like that's me next.. I finally grew some balls and had to go down this step ass, chopped up mogul hill to reach my group. It was not fun, but something I'll never forget. Sometimes in life you just need to have a little confidence in yourself and go for it. I've been back to Austria every year since, 6 seasons in now!
Damn.... 😓 Stay safe. A friend of mine went between piste markers in fog, instead of past them. He had cheap £10 goggles from TK Maxx and they steamed up. He kinda went off a small cliff. It kinda freaked him out for the rest of his life. He is so cautious now, because he has a daughter and is married.
"It was not fun, but something I'll never forget." Lol, this is how I feel about like every black with moguls that's just ice. I don't enjoy it at all. I like actually boarding/skiing, not just constantly flipping back and forth at no speed and sliding down ice.
You guys are how I wish I had buddys that just love to snowboard and just to explore and not only on the mountains just in general. Man I look up to you guys! Keep it up!👊🏽
@DC j Yep right. In the Alps, at an altitude of 1800m or 5900ft, there aren't growing trees anymore because it's too cold the year over. (not more than 6,4°C, about 40 Farenheit)
aaalllen the climate and latitude comes into play. For example on the east coast, clingmans dome in NC is the tallest mountain in the apalachain range at 6600ft but they had to build a cement viewing tower to be able to see over the trees that still grow at that elevation. Now go up to the north east in VT/NH/NY and trees stop growing at about 4500 feet.
Just before you arrived, a lot was closed because of the avalanche danger level 4/5 and 5/5, you‘re lucky you were able to ride where you did. Keep up the great vids!
me & some friends were there from 17th - 21st, basically 5 runs open & that was it, nearly got stuck in St Anton the 1st night due to the roads being closed due to avalanche risk, crazy amounts of snow fell.
What a beautiful mountain. So steep and craggy. Kevin's butters were looking pretty good there. I think his butter skills have improved recently. The snow on the main part of the mountain looked really nice. Intense video.
Nice Video and nice editing. However you guys should give advice on avalanche and off-piste safety. As you said yourself, this looks nothing like the Whistler runs and therefore there are dangers you guys dont't see and know without the locals. Even though avalanche reports say its safe, there still might be rocks close beneath the snow. Locals know their mountains and know the runs, stones and difficulties. Would be nice to see you guys get some locals to take you off-piste, so there is some safety-advice involved. This Video encourages people who dont know what they are doing, that dont know the three avalanche checks, that dont know terrain and dont know the dangers to hop fences and just try ("as SPC showed, its easy"), which often gets people killed in the alps. Stay safe guys, hope there is more content comming.
Absolutely! If we get some powder on this trip we’ll talk more about avalanche safety and get some pro advice. Will have to invest in a full avalanche bag at some point soon! If that run a fresh snow on it we would haves definitely needed the locals advice!
They don't know about avalanche safety. You can tell by the reply above "will have to invest in a full avalanche bag" as if thats what avy safety is about. They shouldn't give advice on this... They're very irresponsible. But the youtube comments are piling up on all of their off-piste videos, and I hope that will result in them getting training and equipment, and then doing a video about it, and keeping it featured in every backcountry / off-piste video from then on. But I wouldn't hold my breath about that.
Nomad Trails yes they know nothing about it and every time you comment there videos about that they give very hazardous answers. The basics is not a airbag its a beacon, a probe and a shovel
Broke my arm and had to cancel my planned trip to Austria this year. Not snowboarding hurt more than the break! Can't decide if your channel is keeping me sane or driving me mad!!
Grew up boarding in Northeast U.S., then lived near Tahoe for a bit before living in Europe for past 4yrs. Warning to folks growing up boarding in U.S. The alps are no joke. With over 5 countries and resorts nearing the thousands, its def some of the best boarding in the world. Plus they really know the meaning of Apres Ski! Great vid guys
Dont you guys feel this is defo the best year of content because of all the travelling and huge variety of input? I'm absolutely lovin' it and the combo of davidsjones / Matt Maniaci is just the icing....where they all going next ?!? JAPAN, NO WAY MAN ! !......thats gonna be unreal....film shedloads boys.....I'm extremely envious right now.....have a great time.. :¬)
You guys have the definition of my dream life. Making videos, riding and traveling the world all with your homies. Crazy if I could do something like that
Great to see the comments on using Avi gear. When you get to Laax you'll see its even more big mountain skiing at over 3000M at Sass Fee and Zermatt 3,500 - 3,800M. When you get to Avoriaz be sure to buy the full PDS Pass as it will cover the entire 600KM of skiable area and will give you access to the Swiss Side of the Resort. If you went "on tour" you would do well to ride the same run twice. The freestyle / slopestyle park is in Avoriaz, you'll see it easy. If you only intend to ride the park then you only need the Avoriaz pass not the full PDS Have a look at "The Stash" which is on the way down to Les Lindarets Bowl. There is also a few tree runs in this area. In the Les Lindarets bowl you'll see the Ardent Bubble, follow the run through the bowl area where all the lifts are. It's a flat section so you'll have to walk about 100m not far so you end up on a run that follows the bubble. From here on your right you'll see a small run into Goat Village. It's a decent place to stop for a coffee, crepe, food etc. From there you ski down to the bubble and can head back up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ahralCMW9uw.html You can always try the Swiss Wall to test your nerve. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wMV1_cZHnxQ.html
Props to the skills in filming! You guys don't get enough credit on it, and editing! I'd like to see a second cam to catch how you guys film each other when you're trailing the subject or even better, leading. A little behind the scenes clip would be sweet.
Schindler! The old Schindlergratbahn, my favourite chair on the planet! 30 year old detachable triple chair, up some of the best lift accessible terrain anywhere in the world. Pity the chair was replaced by a gondola this season. Not such an intense feeling skirting across the top of the chutes at the top anymore. But at least the new Schindlergratbahn gondola makes access to the chutes, the front face & the eastern face even easier, especially for snowboarders. Thanks for showing people around such a cool mountain. Pity you guys didn't get great snow there. I live for powder days on Schindler!
Venturing out into unknown terrain in the alpes can be very dangerous so be careful out there. Also avy gear is useless if you don't know how to use it. Stay safe
While riding in the alps or very steep/glacier conditions, caution always prevails, going over that red fence would have been a real no go for me, this spot could have become a perfect death trap in seconds. Be careful, mate
Massive fan of the videos I feel like you should address when and when not to hop fence. This video sort of encourages this and the local rescue team will skip rocks off your head If they catch you. Again huge fan keep it up.
Thanks for the advice. As far as we know the fence was there because it was so close to the chairlift and not to stop people from going around. We probably could have said that in the video though.
Awesome filming style today! Loved it... I was wondering if you could do a video of just a long series of turns. Like 10 mins of you going down mellow slopes. I feel like watching a lot of basic turns will help a lot with learning as well as the great technical advice you give. Thank you so much
I worked in Anton for 4 seasons. Huge resort, and serious steep sections, on and off piste. Avalanche danger there is the real deal. Every season anywhere between 1-6 people would die because of avalanches. Having the gear was a must going off piste! Had some of the best lines of my lfe at this place. Broke my hip first season while off piste, but other than that, it was a crazy 4 seasons of powder and partying!
@SuzN You don't see extreme pro's going down fast on steeps either, they do the same exact thing until it's safe to do what you're talking about. The second you lose control is the second you potentially end your season (or life).
This is my second season snowboarding, my best friend got me into it last year, your videos were a huge help and very detailed! We're going down to Sugarloaf next week! A bit of an upgrade from Ski Wentworth here in Nova Scotia!
Hey Kevin welcome to Europe man this is my second season snowboarding. I learned in here i have been in Austria a few time(im stationed in Germany). By any means im at your level but your videos give me a lot of help as i progress. I hoped that you had posted these tips a few weeks ago when i did my first black diamond. And other thing So what are yo telling me that i will not have this much fun in USA .
That was the most technical line he’s ever done? His level of technique in that line makes me think he shouldn’t have been in that chute. Good video, I just feel that he pushed himself through some runs he wasn’t quite yet skilled enough for so he could say he did it. Like when you were *just* getting to blues and decided to go down your first black
Schindler chutes are a lot of fun.. even more so with some decent fresh on them. Steepest chutes I’ve ridden. A fall at the top and it’s a long way down!! Gotta say though... you definitely should have the holy trinity with you when you’re doing this stuff.
I was like this looks kinda familiar, now I remember I was here last summer when there was no snow. I went hiking. Pretty cool area, wish to revisit some time with my snowboard.
I went to St.Anton last year. Amazing resort. Be sure to visit Krazy Kanguruh and Mooserwirt for some Après-ski. Just before 5 PM Mooserwirt plays The Final Countdown by Europe just as the people come in from the top of the slope for a beer! (It got pretty crowded, but was a cool sight to see)
I’ve been in st Anton the last week. Boarded all over, even to some of the back mountains. Here’s my verdict. On a POW day, it’s a boarders paradise! Period! Every other day, skiers chop it up so bad it’s just a piste/park play. The thing I love most is that whilst the piste sections are skinny unlike America etc, you can literally go where ever you want. Easily! You can access the sickest shit ever! When it’s fresh pow, man, this place will be heaven. Next stop tomorrow, Saint Moritz (Switzerland) and then Livigno (Italy).
There are steep lines in Les 2 Alpes, France, almost identical with this one but narrower, when I went, unfortunately, all the snow was so icy that we had to give up half way down and take the chicken lane :), I will try it again this year, maybe the condition will be better!
“The Being That will restore you to life at resurrection is such that the whole cosmos is like an obedient soldier of His. It bows its head submissively whenever it hears the command, “Be!”, and it is.To create a spring is easier for Him than the creation of a flower. Risale-i Nur Collection
St Anton is one of the top resorts but there are many in the Alps. Its famous for powder runs and a boarders paradise etc. Ive never been to the rockies but always thought they seemed 'low' on screen as crazy as that sounds! So to hear you say straight up they are, compared to the Tirol here was interesting bud. Been here for 2 months/2 years but as a musician and only got to board once (( 1st world problems hey! Have friends there so will be looking to go back either this year or the next if the stars align etc! Great to see you guys over here and taking on an Alp ;-)) Safety first mind over here ))
Oh man. Im such a big fan of your videos. I was on last Saturday in St. Anton and I didn't know that you are also there. That's a pity. @TJ: Thanks for your recommendation of the Lobster The Sender. I bought it last weekend. The board fits perfect for me.
hey @SnowboardProCamp and @BoardArchive do you guys bring waxing and tuning gear on your trip? or just take your boards to local shops for maintenance?
When it's that steep and you're just jumping from one edge to the other, what exactly is the point? Surely you might as well just heel edge all the way until it gets less steep?
I ski terrain like this in Utah almost every week. This is cool to see what it would be like to go to Austria, but not that impressive of snowboarding. Come on jump those rocks and cliffs.
We haven't had enough snow here in southern Finland to snowboard but now my local ski resort is opened and I can't wait to get there. Awesome video btw! Did you use drone to get the footage, its so smooth.
Hey Kev! Just wondering if there was a chance you could make a video with some advice on purchasing a powder board. Thinking of heading to Japan next winter and am pretty sure I'll need one! Thanks heaps! Keep doing what your doing cause your amazing at it!
Mate,I was there for 5 weeks two seasons ago.I brought along my Arbor A Frame and a directional twin.Much handier just bringing the directional twin as when you get a crazy powder days up to waist deep just set the stance back by 2 inches......
