You all are so very lucky that someone woke you up to tell you that you were in danger. You all would have been swept away if not for that person. Please please, don’t park on a beach.
Rule of thumb: If you’re on sand, you’re not on solid land. Sand is made from the tide over time, so don’t risk it. Glad you and your van were not harmed!
live and learn i hope. they werent the only ones doing it and so there was that group complacency going on. they all helped each other out and all learned their lesson so all's well that ends well i'd say
@@mexiguero646 Yeah because you don't live in a van, Mexico's highway at night are very dangerous and in that part of the country right now there's cartel war between Cartel de Juárez, Cartel de Sinaloa y CJNG, go home yankee or learn about the violence we are forced to live as normal born and raised mexicans, you're not a tourist anymore 💀
@MexiGuero I guess you haven't heard the news and you live in a good place. Just take a look, because depending on where you are, is how things can go
Yes!! I lived in Utah as a kid and we drove on the salt flats in our own car once. Everything. Rusted. A tip for anyone wanting to drive on the salt flats: get a rental, or know how to throughly clean all that salt away
@@ballisticbee6001 cars are more rust resistant but they are still prone to rust. This is why I always pressure wash the undercarriage and wheel Wells of my car
@@CL4SSiCS might be rust resistant, but when you have salt or salt water coating the entire undercarriage, it's only a matter of time until rust forms.
Man you gotta be careful driving a van in Mexico. As a Mexican, driving a van in a cartel-controlled zone can be extremely dangerous. Not just because of that beach situation, but also the current cartel situation is not seeming to get better. Be safe out there y’all.
Excuse the military men at that particular check point. It is more common to have them throughly inspect as you travel North because drugs come in from the south on the route you were
i have never been to mexico or dealt with military check points... but to me.. this looks like it was just made up and could be a scam. it was just cones and men dressed in uniforms. that scares me.
Probably, but, come on, we know it's mainly because government do not like immigrants. Also beware of any military men, they don't protect people, they protect the government, they tend to abuse of their power, know your rights while traveling in Mexico
You are very lucky someone called you to notify you of the tide coming in, otherwise it could have been much worse. Be very careful in the future where you park
I live on the border in Nogales Arizona and can say with total certainty that you're crazy to be driving around Baja like you do. I have two friends that used to winter out in San Carlos and they poo pooded the violence threat as an over reaction until several years ago there was a rival gang shoot out in the parking lot of their condo while they were on the veranda having breakfast. They saw the whole thing including people being killed. They don't go there anymore. Maui is their new wintering hangout. This is just one of dozens of bad to very very bad situations that happen in Mexico. To be fair, it's safer now than it was in the past, but if some criminal wants your van he'll probably get it.
I've flown to Mexico and driven into Mexico. True, it was super easy in the 90's but my point above was.... If THAT'S your most horrible nightmare come true, then you ain't seen nothing yet. 😂 All that was, was an inconvenience. And I bet you won't park your van on the edge of a beach ever again 😂
It’s such an amazing community. It’s awesome that everyone stayed and helped each other, I couldn’t imagine most of the people I know doing that for strangers
I would not have admitted to being so daft as to set up camp on sand in a tidal zone, but hopefully your post will save other vanners from what could have been a fatal error.
Can’t help but think, surely a little bit of research BEFORE parking on very flat land next to the ocean, might be a wise thing when travelling areas you’ve never been to before?
The military checkpoint thing is me every time I go to Canada. I bring a novel to read for the 70 minutes it takes for them to tear my car apart and search my cell phone. After the 5th time of them asking ‘are you sure you’re not bringing in any gifts for friends?’ I wonder if safety is more important to them or bringing up the customs duties.
I've never had anything "tore apart," nor has my cell beens searched. This is our side and the Canadians. I don't know where you're crossing at but if this actually happened then you need to get a hold of DoD and let them know your being illegally searched. We have never done this to anyone when I pulled border security, ever.
they were hinting around to see if you had any gifts for them, to make your detention and search go quicker, it does if you bring them gifts (they prefer cash)
So sorry you had to go through this! Water will actually move a very far distance over flat land so even though you were far from the coastline at the time, it doesn't take much to bring it up to you. 😔
You ever actually try and use them? I have, and they are terrible. I thought "great idea" got them, tested them in mud, snow, and ice and in all case they effectively did nothing...
They tore apart the van because when someone’s traveling back up north they usually take drugs with them not all of the time but I guess that area is commonly used for drug trafficking and or other illegal things Also learn the why they do the things you couldn’t have gone down there and expect them to not do searches
Please be careful in Mexico. Especially in Tijuana. Share your location continuously with family and friends. Set your phone up for SOS, place a tracker in your van, and share the access with your parents. Additionally, keep a tracker on you if you can and keep it on good hiding(undergarments, shoes, socks). Don't mean to scare you, but it's reality.
What! No its nothing like that in Mexico, unless your a idiot and you want drama. Mexico is not a dangerous place at all just mind your business and keep moving.
omg yes my exact thoughts cause ppl that are out to get victims are always waiting for the opportunity and stalking areas it's not just a spure of the moment with real bad ppl.
I mean, im from TJ, and as long as youre not being an idiot to peopleC you will be fine, avoid dangerous places(as a tourist you wont be in one so all good) and yeah pretty much be safe like in any place, and do share your location :)
or dont go to mexico? i dont get the revenge of the gringo crusades that whites are on, you lost america and you will never "takeover" mexico, mexicans won they out number whites and run california just give it up and go to brazil
Do you have any clue how many white people die or vanish in Mexico? I’ve been down there many times. With Mexicans. Do you know what the Mexican say? Never ever come down here without other Mexicans. The odds of those two getting killed, or held for Ransom, or kill him and rape her and sell her into sex trafficking or extremely high! This is Mexico, not Canada. It’s almost suicide.
Tie rope around the back tires through the rim to act as temporary tire chains. About four on each tire. 1/2 inch rope works fairly well. Oh yeah, make sure you have clearance between the brakes and the rim. So the rope doesn't interfere.
Something very similar happened to me once, me and my two dogs parked on the beach, we woke up to our RV being knee-deep into the water and Cloveyy barking. Took us 5 hours to get rescued. Moral of the story: never park on the beach
They legitimately didnt go thru anything….it takes hours for the tide to fully rise. This was just sheer negligence and ignorance from deciding ur going to camp on the beach without checking a tide chart
Always a good idea to be aware of what the tide levels are going to be where you are. Probably got caught in what is called a King tide. Happens a couple times a year. Lots of on-line resources for daily tide info.
They’d have had more time to research had they got there earlier. They said in the video they got there and immediately started cooking. Overwhelmed and scared people don’t always think rationally. There was no need for such a passive aggressive response, you’re not the only person aware how water works. They’ve been doing this a while. 😒
@@kirstybrown1185 had they had an ounce of sense they wouldn't have parked on a beach then been surprised that there's military checkpoints in a country ravaged by cartels. They might have been doing this for a while but they did something incredibly dangerous. You're being quite passive aggressive yourself
The sand before was relatively firm and smoothed, barely had any prints in it, but a wave pattern instead. Pretty easy to see that it gets flooded during high tide if you know what to look for. That wasn't a spring tide, that was just the regular tide.
I'm Mexican, living in Mexico. For the love of god don't EVER live in a van in Mexico again. Don't stay overnight in places that are solitary, don't stay on the road. There are many narcos and thieves on the roads, especially at night . They disappear travellers every day (from truckers to illegal immigrants to tourists). I don't drive at night in state freeways, even if I have to travel across states I wait until morning and stay at hotels. That's how bad it is. You guys and your adorable kitty don't want to end up as another statistic just for a cute vlog. Just go back to America and keep trekking over there, just be careful of remote areas as well
That's typical for every single trip up & down the baja peninsula. More attention going north but never a sand issue either... but we be 4×4n thru country. Been doing it for years and absolutely 💯 love the people I've met the foods ive discovered along the travels. Can't wait to go again.
@@DTTWOPP I was thinking the same thing. This was absolutely not a smart move at all. They were just asking for trouble and they should've expected the military to search them when they're so close to a border where human and drug trafficking happens literally every second
@@tdbla98 yo i swear the most delusional people are in this comment section. Its so crazy. A bunch of people validating bullshit its fuckin bizarro world
I hope you guys are aware that anytime your on soft sand and get stuck. Always air down your tires, and sometimes that means airing down to 15-20psi for each tire. Depending on how heavy your vehicle is and it’s load.
So happy you all are doing OK now!!!! Just wanted to let you all know that I really enjoy your content and I love both Bean and Sprout , they are just the cutest cats OMG! Thanks for sharing your vanlife with us all😊🤗😊🤗😊!!!
I bet that girl in her SUV is so so grateful you and others were around to help!! At first I had thought “well why didn’t they drive a little further north before stopping for the night but it was divine intervention that you were there to help. Go glad you are all okay, that is terrifying for sure
Here's a trick to keep in mind. Unless your van is equipped with a limited slip differential, to stop spinning one wheel, use your E-brake to slow down the spinning wheel. As that wheel slows, without reducing the power applied by the engine, the differential will increase the power to the other wheel. That's why it's called a differential... difference in speed allows the van to turn with the power is applied to the faster turning wheel, which is great, except when that wheel has lost traction. Slowly but firmly apply the rear parking brake or even the foot brake to slow or stop the spinning wheel and the power will go to the other wheel, allowing you to drive out of your predicament.
It’d probably be a good idea to have 4wd if possible or at least some All-Terrain or even Mud-Terrain tires if your going through rough roads, super cool clip tho, keep on keeping on 🤘
Please be safe when you’re driving down the roads in Mexico. I’m from Sinaloa, cartel country and if you drive down a wrong road it won’t be military stopping you. If you don’t give them money or they think you’re someone else, they will kill you. This is not a joke. I’ve had family members killed for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes, members as in plural because it’s happened multiple times over the years. So please be careful!
well what the hell did you think? don't you think more people will be doing it if they thought it was a great idea to go to Mexico, a place you can't even drink the safely
Lol you only get kidnapped if your a idiot. Such as driving at night, or getting drunk in public. Take some brain to move around mexico. Some balls help too.
that's very common occurrence in baja, my go to place, i got stuck in sand in the middle of nowhere several times and had to dig myself out, finger nails bleeding and all, fun days
I have been to many other countries. Mexico included and right now I would not travel to Mexico. The check points are all you need to know. I'm happy you're all safe.
You two are braver than brave!!! We use to stay in Ensenada n it was quite different. We never went to the beach at night! The crime rate was unbelievable!
One thing that helps go through the military checkpoints is to offer them something to drink . Like a soda or something. On my trip down Baja California going to San Felipe we easily went through after offering them drinks
That is naive of you and terrible advice for others. Mex border patrol don’t play. You offering them a can of Red Bull or a bottle of water would not have mattered even slightly if they thought you were transporting drugs, weapons, or humans. You’d still be rotting in a Mexican prison if that was the case.
