A frightful antique! This one is a bit more of a Frankenstein's monster than an Edwardian dream but perfect for Halloween.

It’s truly a nightmare of an alteration.

Whoever did that ratchet job probably stored it on a rusty wire hanger too.

This made my archivist heart ache 😭 and for whatever reason, the alterations are screaming high school play production? Just a hunch, way too slapdash to have been done in the hands of a professional

Oh no!! What a warning vid. But, I do like buying 'vintage' items (from the early 2000, 1990's) to actually wear. I would love to see a video on how to clean/launder garments (ahem, sweat stains) to keep them from getting damaged further. I am going to check out your alternation tips video bc I have to alter like all my clothes and I feel guilty doing it on older garments. I try to keep it to mending or as minimal as possible. I wonder if this dress was used for like theatrical costume at some small play.

RIP the gown, it died so we can live in the enjoyment of your autopsy lolllll! Another fabulous video, what a terrible pity and a loss of labour, the stuff there is really intense. You have honoured those workers of eld with this funeral.

Oh Lord....as a former goth in the '80s we did this stuff all the time and now I just cringe. I used to wear and alter Victorian clothes all the time. Thankfully I now better now but I feel a fair amount of guilt for the garments I used to wear. I also know some of the garments I got that this was done to had been altered like that specifically for theatrical use. I have a turn of the century cream linen embroidered suit that some type of jazz age black beaded net situation had been glue gunned and loosely stitched over the top of it. It had been used as a theater costume. Because the linen was in good shape I was able to restore it mostly to its original splendor. This was back in the late 1980's and I still have the suit. It's a beauty. I was lucky that I was able to save it.

Oh, dear goodness, what atrotious alterations. But if it looks that interesting even disrespected like that, imagine how amazing it must have looked when it was first worn. As to my family, unfortunately they were of that status and times, when everything had to be reused, so we have not a single vintage piece left. :(

Same in my family! We don’t have any antique pieces (but I do have some lovely vintage).

Confession: I have altered an antique before. It's a 1930s theatrical cape made out of cotton flannel. Bright red. I took off the old deteriorated trim and added sequins and other embellishments. It looks really cool now, though I do feel a little bit like a criminal.

That poor dress! Not so much “altered” as butchered!😢

It's really sad to see the shape the garment is in now, however, if I'm being absolutely honest I would pro4 done much the same as they did

Is it possible to restore it how it was?

The fabric is too far gone- it falls apart when you touch it. And once you cut though the entire structure, there is really not much you can do.

Thank you for making this very interesting video , I enjoyed watching it but my only critasim is on your view of you and the dress your camera keeps trying to focus in and out and was pretty irritating. I've noticed this on a few of your most recent videos unfortunately.
