The Alta Peak and Pear Lake hikes are two of the most iconic and best hikes in Sequoia National Park. However, both of these hikes are usually done on their own as single day hikes. After some sleuthing, we realized you can actually connect the Alta Peak hike to Pear Lake by traversing along the ridgeline from Alta Peak and then downclimbing (with a class 2 / class 3 climb and scramble) all the way to Pear Lake, in essence making one absolutely epic hike that we definitely feel is the scariest hike in Sequoia National Park that we have found to date! Not to mention, looping Alta to Pear allows you to descend back to Lodgepole by taking the Watchtower route, which gives you sweeping panoramic views of Sequoia and the surrounding mountains. And of course, Adam couldn't resist himself and HAD to actually run out onto the Watchtower itself (please don't try this at home)!

Disclaimer: The Alta Peak to Pear Lake traverse is rarely done for a reason - there have been several reports of deaths on this route, and for that reason we do not recommend doing this route. As always, climb at your own risk :)
