Absolutely love my Black Talon 2. I don't carry it all that often, but when I'm in a place that has a high density of people that's when it's in my pocket. I should really keep it in the car but that could cause hassles with the PO PO. Anyway when it's on my person I feel much more confident and much less anxious. Thanks Cold Steel for hitting the mark with this one.

Love Cold Steel. That knife was designed for one reason. I have a spoon which is used for eating soup, but it will also dig a hole, shovel cement and wax can be melted in the bowl along with a dozen of other applications.

Looks great! As for the pocket clip, I like a low profile clip that is stiff. I don't want it getting caught and bending, or falling out of my pocket.

Let's see if we can take a poll on which version is better for self defense : serrated or plain edge? On the side of plain edge, I heard the plain edge tears through clothing better than serrated. On the side of serrated, it's obvious that serrated does more physical damage.

@@Yasuokai I have seen serrated blades have a rough time slicing through a leather jacket though. Serrated blades tend to get snagged on clothing while plain edge blades slice through much cleaner. Human skin however is a different story. Both blades will do soft tissue damage but a serrate blade creates a more jagged wound that bleeds more and is harder to treat.

Tomas,I was wondering about photographing your video. I think my clip is on the same side as yours,but the blade doesn't deploy when removed from my right hand pocket. So,aside from being somewhat slowww in the head,I don't know how to reverse the clip. The little screws are so small that I might have to go to home depot and get one. I think I watched the video 15 times and I'm still stooopid. I am also very jealous of how you spin the knives around. I know that you have been doing this for more than a month,but it is just totally incredible. I think if you changed the knives for chopsticks,you could beat Bruce Lee in an eating contest. So,facing the knife right side,tip up,pocket clip pointing left,I think I need to reverse it. Sorry to be a thick headed,pain in the ass,but IIWII.

I still have a problem with blade deployment especially when removing from pocket. Also,deployment using my hand is very hard. Backwoods Melissa puts me to shame. HELP!!

It would be very interesting if they made this knife with every design aspect the same except it locked further out making it something like an Elvia when opened so you’d have the best of both worlds. That being said I have two of these and they are excellent.

I like the matriarch more. It is more expensive, but for me it is better. You have to be careful with this one because just before it fully closes it can bite your finger. Close it slowly and see how late the tip goes into the handle. Can't explain it better. You have to see it.

The matriarch has a much more fragile tip compared to the black talon. The black talon is just built to last a lot longer under more abuse. After all these are self defense blades and the last thing you want is the tip breaking if you're trying to defend yourself.

@@Yasuokai absolutely agree, I'd much rather spend my money on something that will last a lifetime or two than something overpriced. I love spyderco and own a good few, great EDC knives but you can't beat cold steel. They have knives from self defense in the black talon 2, espada, and vaquero voyager to edc knives such as the American lawman and air lite all the way to indestructibles like the 4max scout and ad10. Only brand that gives you everything you could want or need at amazing prices.

@@Joshuaskehan-mk8cj I hear what you are saying. I don't know if it is accurate. Haven't tested it or seen being tested in that way. But let's say that it is true. How many times are you going to need to defend yourself with this kind of knife. These knives are devastating for an opponent. They cut first muscle and tendons. In such scenario that you have to reach a point to use the knife to inflict this kind of damage it means that it's you or him. In my opinion (and I hope this is the case) these knives are more useful as a deterrent because of their looks more than anything. That is why I would suggest only getting the "shiny" version and not the blacked out one (referring to matriarch). If these knives do not stop anyone from attacking you after he has seen them then you are in a life or death situation and it's a single use situation kind of thing. That's my opinion. Spydercos are overpriced. No question about it

@@guspap9219 I agree 100% these are definitely more of a deterrent but if someone is hopped up on drugs or means to cause serious harm I would want something that I can depend my life upon. Lynn Thompson has a great video where he talks about knife self defense and how the last thing you want to do is kill or cause serious life long lasting injury to someone just because they picked a fight with you. Always have to try and run away or defuse the situation and if it comes to using the knife only cause less serious harm but at the end of the day you never know what could happen and it may come down to you having to use it in such a way. I agree 100% with you though and about how they should make a blackout version.

I got one and the clip is on the same side as yours. If I put it in my pocket the blade does not deploy. Right hand pocket. So, perhaps I'm stooopid,but I even called cold steel ad and the guy said it should deploy from either pocket. I think my clip needs to be reversed. How do you see this problem of mine? BTW, I love watching you and doug marcaida. You guys are truly amazing.

If the clip is on the right side pull back on the edge to forward grip- if the clip is on the left and you deploy into reverse grip I would love it to the front edge of the pocket and twist to catch the wave opening feature! Thank you for watching and I hope this helps! 🙏🏽🔪

i love this blade - i have this blade but lets face it - this blade was never built for opening packages - it does not even do it well - its to easy to penetrate the package and damage the contents - this blade was designed to slice through the arm of a thick leather jacket - its powerful and extremely dangerous -its dangerous like a gun but without bullets - in a tight spot a attacker would be smart to just run - as long as that re curve or tip touches you - your screwed - even a flick cut will go in deep enough to seriously harm/disable a attackers body part - but dont wait for the police to show up because there is no way this knife will look good on you - especially with the serrates - its an attack blade - hit and run baby because sinister is a good description for this blade - love but respect this blade

I have one and the Spyderco Civilian is much deadlier. I think the Civilian is deadliest, talon in 2nd and 3rd spyderco matriarch

@@tacticaltavern Its the original design by undercover cops who couldn't carry on the job. It has a longer and thinner as well as more of an acute bend. The Black Talon 2 is great I just feel the $270 original is more effective. They came out with the matriarch to have a less lethal Civilian.
