The Science, Art and Meaning of Forest Wisdom - Suzanne Simard, Ph.D. 

I'm so happy that there's a professional scientist who is so connected to the forest, nature. She's trying to do her work to protect the trees the forest because in our ignorance we're making a great mistake, and we will not realize that we made a big mistake until it's too late. I have always known that the trees do have a consciousness, and I was attacked by atheists and materialist for thinking this way. Most people think nature is mechanical and it is here for us to do whatever we please with, we have dominion over nature, and we have dominion over all living creatures on earth. I believe this is a poisonous and destructive way of thinking. We need to reconnect with nature again.

I have been working with and study mycorrhizal networks and their impacts on natural systems ever since I heard a talk bt Michael Crowfoot back in 1992. And I have to say that this talk is one of the most inspiring and enlightening talk I have seen. Thank you Suzanne.....your work is excellent and your personal example....BEAUTIFUL. Thank you

Fabulous, and inspiring. Thank you for your work Dr Simard. I loved how you integrated the science with the spiritual. Some think science is the opposite of religion, but to me, science illuminates the wonder of life -- that's *my* religion.

As a kindred spirit working in Olympic National Park in the Hoh rain forest valley, I would like to thank you for validating what I came to feel every day working amongst the trees and sharing my thoughts with visitors. I hope very much that someday we get a chance to meet and visit with each other.

Thanks for uploading this. I think Suzanne's work is not just amazing on the biological and scientific level, it also has profound philosophical and social implications. We really need to get past the reductionist 'selfish gene' model that has caused so much harm to ourselves and the planet. I am thinking of Reaganism, Thatcherism and all the nefarious models that have led to an even greater upsurge of unbridled capitalism. Another top notch scientist who, in my view, is doing a great work in bringing out information that can help to subvert the current paradigm based on brutal competitiveness, is Dr.Martin Nowak.

As I watch these documentaries, one thing I am kind of surprised about. People still think trees are separate entities in nature or something! And get surprised by their communication technique. Of course they will have certain level of intelligence(if not even deeper than us). We basically get our life source from them. Think about it. If you say no and point to other animals you eat, they in turn get their life source from trees. So in a way, we are a derivatives of trees. And the fact is well known that our existence kind of dependent on theirs. Hypothetically speaking, if for some reason, all the trees died one day. I would say the entire population will die off in 1 year if not less. Not just food scarcity! But natural calamity that will unfold immediately. SO DEFINITELY DON'T FEEL PROUD WHEN YOU THINK OF SUSTAINABLE GROWTH. MAY BE THAT'S THE ONLY OPTION.

fyi 2:00 - Suzanne, I'm here because of that TED talk. I thought it was great, your first person in-the-moment narrative was very effect. It created mental images for listeners to relate to and connect with as the story unfolded. I think it is very important to recognize that 'the Westerners" once held trees as sacred. I site the Brehon Laws as a fine example. It was Christianity removing the reverence for nature and the removal of pagan indigenous pagan laws that destroyed Europe's forests.

This video is for where there are supposed to be trees. Which is not everywhere, just to clarify. Where there is supposed to be prairie, there are not supposed to be trees.

indeed ill give you some data , a full grown leaf tree gives 45 pple oxygen per day , so when you kill that tree you are depleting oxygen for 45 pple , that is not all , each full grown leaf tree gives 30 pple drinkable water, this is not mentioned and should be, so cutting down all the trees are not only depleting oxygen on earth but also drinkable water .may love be our guide not greed. love to all that is
