Brilliant doctor! Thank you for this laymans explanation and love youf deprecating sense of humor. I can tell you're a good man. It's nice to know you're on the planet!
I took methadone for 6 years and I tapered from 105mg a day down to 40mg a day and then just stopped , should've tapered further but didn't and 5 to 7 days is a cake wall compared to what i went through I didn't sleep for that long , it probably took me a month or two before the worst started letting up. I got diabetes at the same time so I really don't know how long the withdrawals actually lasted, I about died. But I'm on buprenorphine now and doing well with it.
Thank you so much for that now that makes sense finally. I just have one question does it ever come back your own bodies pain killer or have you damaged that for good. I suffer with Fybermyalgia I’m in pain all day everyday. Is it possible that the pain won’t stop because I’ve destroyed my own bodies pain killer?
U forgot the “horrible Mental,” aspects of withdrawal, like extreme anxiety right, depression, hallucinations, many other, scary things, its pure hell on earth, the only difference between going there, is your still breathing.
Why condescend to the audience as if they are stupid? "Stick with me because this is science..." You are providing valuable information, but people don't like to be talked down to.
Please don't be so over sensitive. He obviously cares about and respects people or he wouldn't have made this video. My interpretation of that statement that offended you is that he is saying "oh no, here comes some science talk, please stay with me even though it's boring and a little confusing." It's so hard to maintain conversations and relationships lately because it seems like you can offend or "trigger" someone just by having a normal conversation. PLEASE don't be one of those people.
@@katejeff2000 it made me pay attention more. The science is the best. Thank you for these videos. My Dr told me to look up things on Google. Wish they helped me more.
It takes a heck of a lot longer than 5-7 days for the withdrawal to go away. I've worked with a few people going through withdrawal of regularly prescribed opiates (not heroin or other illegal) and they were literally sick for months. It's painful watching someone go through that. At first you think they are faking or exaggerating in order to try and get drugs, but you quickly realise there's no way to fake what they are experiencing.
Prescribed opiates means that they used as much as they wanted. High tolerance means longer period of withdrawal. Believe it or not, poor junkies that can only afford around a gram of heroin a day, they can get ok after 10 days MAX.
if you meet dopamine every day-you become too familiar with each other-this is why you need more. How too fix? if you eat chocolate everyday it’s not sweet! Opiet’s are the same! bad food are the same! It’s why they say “everything in moderation” Those children with parents that spoiled them have a hard time being happy! It’s why poor people are generally happier..don’t believe? travel around the world and you’ll see for yourself!!
Uh, the withdrawal lasts much longer than 5 to 7 days. Was more than 3 months. The worst was the depression, treatment resistant depression, 7 days in psychosis, I had to be told this because you don’t remember, then on 450 mg Wellbutrin plus 120 Prozac plus 7.5mg abilify plus 4mg clonazepam. Next step was to be electric shock
4:27 I find the "heroin has not medical use" thing really stupid and arbitrary. Heroin is no different from any other opioid in the way it works and how it can be used therapeutically. It just has a bad reputation and so was made illegal in the US, but countries in Europe use it as a medicine.
The only thing European countries use heroin for is to treat heroin addiction. It's given in controlled dosages, particularly in Switzerland and Portugal. There's no other medical use. So there. 😀
@@katejeff2000 Heroin (diamorphine/diacetylmorphine) is used in the United Kingdom as an analgesic (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15785068/). That said, what is different about heroin vs every other opioid analgesic that renders it not medically useful while the others are? I would argue that there is no difference and the prohibition of heroin is based solely on politics and not science. Heroin acts on the exact same receptors in the exact same way as morphine and the far more potent fentanyl.
PLEASE Dr. Ripperda PLEASE can you do a video on kratom and it's potential use for treating opiate addiction ? Or collaborate with another doctor if they've done research on it ?? Please and thank you !
Thank you so much for explaining some questions I've had regarding my Suboxone treatment. Right now I'm having a problem with being on Suboxone and having an alcoholic problem. This is a big dilemma for me and I was wondering if you could address that. How do I get off of the alcohol addiction while being on the Suboxone? Any ideas?
I've wondered this myself. I have a lot of patients who have bad veins and sometimes swelling of the hands/feet because of destroyed veins from usage. I've not had anybody definitively grow better veins over time, unfortunately.
Your video was very informative and easy to follow even for a recovering addict like me. I shot up a lot and did a lot of crack. I would like to hear your views on what 💉 heroin and crack together and the effects it would have on serotonin and dopeamine. I seem to have a lot of pain now and not used anything for a while
A layman's explanation is that when you use opiates a lot, your body and brain will down-regulate those receptors (which also causes tolerance) and your body adapts to the state. When you stop using opiates all those receptors become hyper stimulated. Basically your body is trying to restore homeostasis but over shoots and so you feel shitty.
