This is a RUMBLE video, but not the full length version - it has been shortened to remove information disallowed on RU-vid. - -We see a lot of ammo crimps on videos - some we like, and some we don't. This video breaks down the mystic nature of crimps and distills what it is about crimps we like and conversely, what about crimps we do not like...

Didn’t know you were on Rumble. Instantly pause the video on RU-vid and searched and followed you on Rumble. Awesome! On a side note… my wife heard your voice and said.. “I haven’t heard that guy in a long time”. Been following you for years when I first started reloading. You were a key resource for me. Aloha my friend! 🤙🏽

I suggest that you make an Odysee account too, I'd say it's another good YT alternative. You can have it transfer all of your videos from here to there with a click of a button, and it will sync up with any new videos you post here.

When I started reloading I had to figgure it all out, quickly came to the conclusion that cases with a rim like 38SP have a different crimp than 9mm or .30M1 carabine because they use the front of the case instead of the rim to hold it in place

i have a old lee crimp die ( pre factory crimp ) that i love for cast bullets in 38/357 . it crimps cast bullets right every time ! kinda hard to describe the crimp , it is like a roll taper crimp . top tapers in and the rest rolls . wish i could find a few more of them . i do got one in 45 colt , but i don't load 45 colt . yes crimp matters !

Just picked up a Lee six pack and was having problems at the range yesterday with a couple of bullets jamming and pushing the bullet deeper into the case. Ordered the factory crimp die which doesn't come with the press when ordered with a caliber conversion included. Looking for info on a proper crimp and once again FC45LC has posted a video of exacly what I needed just four days ago. This is getting weird FC. Thanks once again for posting!

Hi Steve, Great video and I look forward to seeing the future ones. I recently upgraded my DILLON RL 550 to include auto primer and powder dropper. I used the LEE dies in 45 ACP instead of buying DILLON die sets. I'm still trying to get the perfect crimp! Good luck on Rumble, and we'll try to catch you there as well!
@JohnDoeEagle1
@JohnDoeEagle1 Год назад
The perfect crimp on a .45 ACP is 0.469". The perfect COL for a 1911 is 1.250" - 1.260" with 200 and 230 grain SWCs and also FMJ or RN. 185 grain bullets and some 200 JHPs can be a bit shorter at times. MOST 1911 .45s and many other .45s will run that 0.469" crimp and 1.250 - 1.260" COL perfectly. Your search is over....straight out of a Wilson Combat CQB 1911 owners manual!
@boomerrangerron
@boomerrangerron Год назад
@@JohnDoeEagle1 Thanks for the tip! I just checked my specs and some of our loads were at 1.254. So the next step is to see if they load in the magazine and chamber through my Remington 1911 R1.
@JohnDoeEagle1
@JohnDoeEagle1 Год назад
@@boomerrangerron This is right within that magic window of 1.250" - 1.260" +/- 0.010" and almost the middle. I usually go for 1.255" to split the difference. MOST of the people mouthing off about a 1911 being unreliable can be traced back to a few key things often overlooked. Recoil springs need to be replaced every 2,000 rounds. A Wilson Combat or Tripp Research magazine is best. Extractors need to be tuned to between 25oz - 28oz tension. Good lubricant needs to be used (NOT WD40) 1.250" - 1.260" COL with 0.469" taper crimp.

Whoever says you don't need to crimp your brass doesn't know what they are talking about and should be disregarded as misinformation. On semi-auto handgun calibers somewhere between 0.002" - 0.005" with 0.003" - 0.004" being absolutely perfect. 0.002" is a bit light and 0.005" is a bit too much. Aim for the middle and you will never have a problem. I trim every single piece of brass I reload regardless if it is being used for semi-auto handguns, revolvers, semi-auto rifles or bolt action rifles. I also always use a case gauge to check chamber fit and make sure SAAMI specs are held. My reloads run when the people next to me are having all kinds of issues with theirs. I have been reloading and casting my own bullets for over 30 years and have learned a bit in that amount of time.

A new Reloader will be told all about how you do not need to trim handgun, pistol or revolver brass. Uniforming the length helps with a uniform crimp. When you can sell your Factory New ammunition with the minimum SAAMI brass length it means money saved. You are not buying excess brass so you make more profit. So we don’t always have uniform case length from range scrap. This is a sticky subject as many have never trimmed or uniformed handgun brass. It has also never grown out of specification. So there is a why bother camp. You are only going to uniform brass (1) time for your first reloading. You will also be able to verify length, sort out and identify rejects. Which we should do to avoid problems.
