I understand how difficult it is to deconstruct your life after such an ordeal. There are 3 miillion members in in WMSCOG in 175 countries and the number is growing rapidly. I never realized how many cults there are out there until I went on the internet to do my own research on the wmscog. I only wish, that I did more research on the internet at the beginning, however, we were frowned down on going on the internet. I was told, that Heavenly Moher would cry and have a broken heart if I ate from the tree of knowledge and not of the tree of life. I and I did not want to die Spiritually. That was super interesting. I think this is the group that was proselytizing at university campuses in NZ. My daughter saved her best friend from being sucked in because she was aware of the cult recruitment tactics, after our recent departure from the jws.. I think a factor that enabled me to be so easily indoctrinated into the jws was that I was caught off guard. I think that because I had already been brought up with a respect for the bible and religious authority figures, I couldn't possibly imagine that my bible study conductor, and the GB, would be lying to me. Your guests experience shows how his former group blatantly employed deception and coercion...These are just not things you would expect from Christians! I know better now. I was young and naive back then.

Great video. I particularly enjoyed hearing Chris analysis on jws. The words that hit close to home- deception, gaslight, strawman, obey the wise servant. Very articulate!

Thanks, Chris and Wendi! I tell other PiMOs that struggle with whether it is the truth to write down why it isn't the truth. This seems to help many ppl. The 12 Tribes cult is in the JW Territory that I live in. We used to make fun of them as JDUBS but now I just feel bad for them. See you next time.

"Parable dictionary and parable injections redefining works". WOW. I noticed the same thing with the JWs "The Finished Mystery" 7 volumes (around 3500 pages) back in the 1900s. I'd never have stayed in as a JW kid if we'd been allowed to read our "old" books.

It is fascinating to hear the experiences of fellow former cult members. When I was a Witness (defected at 19 in 1998), several elders in my congregations regularly made unfavorable comments about the Mormons. This was in Hawai'i, where both organizations have a strong presence, and outsiders often confused the two. It seemed unfair on the elders' part, since it is unlikely they knew anything substantive about Mormons. But their reactions are akin to behavior known as "bully-victiming": when those who are targeted find others to target, perhaps to grasp some semblance of power. "We may be (negative adjective), but at least we are not them" goes the thinking. A few years after I left and came out of the closet, I realized that I possessed some "hangover" from my Witness upbringing. One night at a gay bar, I met both an ex-Mormon and an ex-Mennonite. The three of us compared our cult notes, and some of that competitive dynamic emerged, but in reverse: our game involved determing whose religious experience was worse! We quickly saw the folly and comic value of the exchange, bonded over our shared pasts, and reflected on our growth (all three of us were well adjusted, graduated college, and were embarking on promising careers). I wonder if there are others with similar experiences...

an ex jw was explaining that the organization get their number of members by counting the new born babies ,unborn ones, adding those coming to assemblies whether baptized or not, oh, not forgetting those regularly attending to meetings. and as they realise many are leaving their community, they refrain from disfellowshipping eagerly as they used to do

Okay. Back to some journaling for me. I had a special form of indoctrination apparently, because when that WT came out with "we are not inspired, etc" I was not surprised. (I was mentally out, too,) I had always been taught they were just men, but at the same time we have to follow them because they are God's organization. It's a double bind in your mind. I wonder if it was pounded into my dad* when he was in bethel. Also, I think I had "extra" of some teachings (we all have different experiences) because my parents didn't want the embarrassment of a child leaving the cult. Nope, they just got a child who was not a hypocrite like her dad and told on his non-elder behavior, AS HE TAUGHT ME. He caved and immediately "stepped down". (WTF is that term stepped down, if they are not to be elevated???) *Dad was more of an indoctrinating sperm donor. He provided a room, food, and clothing, and wt indoctrination. Parenting done as far as he was concerned. It was worse than being in an orphanage. An orphanage wouldn't necessarily force you into a cult! Probably more affection too.

This was very interesting and entertaining. I studied with the jw for 3 years then ran fast from it. Unfortunately my best friend who got me interested in jw is still in 35 year later.

The righteous lie - it’s spiritual warfare, so you are just using spiritual weapons. Oh, and they have their own JW definition of lying: giving a falsehood to someone who is entitled to know the truth. See that trick? If you are deemed as one not ENTITLED to the truth, it’s not lying!

Of course..the great number of channels on youtube alone ..aside from reddit etc etc..the ex witnesses have been enabled to gather together like clouds covering the land..quite something to see ..and by means of this ..many have been supportive to others who have experienced exactly the same kind of treatment or very similar. PLAGUES ! COMMUNITY online spoken of by Ezekiel when he spoke regarding Gogs final attack .(some Christian denominations consider Gog to be Russia..on a map it looks very much like that.. Don't take my word for it.. you can check that ..) When you look at what's happening in Russia ..could it be that because of the ban ..imprisonment and taking their properties is fulfillment of ezek 38..& the punishing of them in response..as they touched the apple of his eye ? Note the natural evidence spoken of in verses 20-22.
